True, there are lots of programmers right now, but there are very few programmers with the right skillsets. At least for the past 2 years, I've been in the forefront of recruiting developers for the company I work for and it is sad to admit that 90% of all programmers in Nigeria are shitty. They all shout "I am a developer" but don't have a clue what it takes to be one.

Regardless of the influx of programmer supply from other parts of the world, I've worked with several guys who are smart and very badass in programming and earn more than 12M NGN gross pray and are here in Nigeria.

My point is, companies will pay you if you are good enough, can sell yourself well, be very smart and don't give a shit about burning rickety bridges.

Well! I am a software engineer here in the United Kingdom and just graduated, with a start salary of £30,000 which means after deduction I still go home with £1989 = 900,000N at the time of post. But its so because things are very expansive here. House per month is £1200 at most and a lot of bills which depends on the individual. So for me a developer who is earning 200K in naira still live a posh live compare to us here in the UK. When I was still in Nigeria my House rent for a year was around 250K which means I don't have to worry for the rest 11 months.

Guys i know do earn up to 400/500/600k per month, it depends on your skillset and experience, though i mostly freelance but hardly under 200k/mth no matter how long the project would last.

Have a good set of projects you have work on.Be knowlegeable in different stacks, say frontent (vuejs/react/angular --either of them+ the regular CSS/HTML5/JS) then backend (Node/php/python/ruby/golang --be very fluent in at least 2) have good sql and Nosql knowledge a little server administration. Just that no one would dare offer you <300k.

If you are a mobile dev at least be fluent in Java(Android) and Swift or Objective-C (Apple'ish), some SQL/NoSQl favour. and a backend language. You should be good to go at <=300k at any reputable company.

Many other skill types would increase your worth, knowledge with modern tools like Docker, kubernetes, Continous integration etc.

Even UX folks who know their meta learn above 200, though front-end coding knowledge would always increase the worth of a UI/UX designer

Everything is boiling down to you must know almost all languages to be meaningful. Must of you guys have over 10 years of experience.

C++ is far from useless. It's the language used mostly in embedded systems programming and game development. There was a job from zf Sachs posted on Glassdoor days back. It comes with visa sponsorship to Japan. The only language requirement was C++. C++ is even more valuable that most of the languages being mentioned here.

Nigerian dev companies are wicked, they demand 5yrs of experience for junior developer roles, they give you advanced stuff at the interview whilst the proposed salary isn't up to 150k. I would advise any developer shitty or not to move out of Nigeria once they get hold of the basic concepts.

Hahaha, I get it now. Anyway, programmers shouldn't give up no matter what. Landed my first gig after 6 interviews, it's all good now.

Any programmer that doesn't practice for a minimum of 4hrs daily, should kindly reevaluate his career path.

Yea. My former salary was $500 but after some talks with the owner, i managed to convince them and negotiated a price amount of $2500 per month and it worked out.

If the rate is around N380 per Dollar then I'll advice you to open a domiciliary account with your favorite bank. With this, the money will get paid directly to your account in Nigeria. Bank rates are around N400 to N450 per Dollar.
