My journey to Canada

PPR landed in January and for an unknown reason I decided to wait till April before traveling. Little did I know that China had other plans for me. Covid broke out and the government decided to shut her airports 2 weeks before my japa date. I wasn't too bothered cos I thought it was going to last for a month but one month became two then three. After realizing that the government's intention is to fail me one last time, I decided to join different evacuation flight groups. The first one I joined was that of 2500 dolls. Immediately, I knew that flight wasn't meant for me or else POF will laccident. I chilled hoping fares will get cheaper. Truly, it for cheaper but still expensive for a broke ass dude like me. Finally I was able to reroute my ticket to Cotonou, Paid extra for the rerouting and also paid an airline to take my group members and I to cotonou. That was how I left my father's land like a fugitive going to seek asylum in Canada (my home country)

As a village boy that I am, I was more interested in experiencing my first plane experience while others just wanted to get to Canada. I had vowed to take as many pictures as possible but my battery failed me Las Las. I sincerely wanted to pepper those who thought a lagos BRT bus is the best thing I will ever commute in.

The plane from lAG to COO was small with little leg space. Before I could settle in to start taking pictures the pilot announced we were landing in 5 minutes. Shoo... 150k flight ended in 20 minutes, I must collect my change from those people.

Cotonou's airport was small and looked like a lagos luxury bus park. No efizzy, no international airport feeling and wifi. At the ET counter we got a shocker of our lives, our land luggage must be checked in and must not exceed 7kg and our backpack must only have laptop in it. The language barrier also dealt with us cos the officers were French-speaking who were trying to communicate in English.
My backpack and hand luggage weighed a total of 16kg, I realized I was going to pay for the extra weight when they started weighing our hand luggage and backpack. I offloaded everything in one of my check in bags and paid 60 usd for it. Some families paid upto 700 dolls just for their extra luggage... E be things o

We boarded and the plane was quite full, I sat at the last row by the aisle close to the kitchen. It seems they knew how much I like to eat before putting me there. I ensured nothing passed me by..... From water to juice to wine to beer to coffee. I had planned to eat everything that passed me by which I did, I kept Flagyl in my pocket incase my village people decided to use food to get me.

The flight to Addis Ababa was uneventful, no in-flight entertainment, no wifi just food and pretty hostesses. I kept looking out of the window trying to catch a glimpse of the scenery, it got to a time the man at the window seat asked me if I would like to exchange seats with him, I declined cos I didn't want to miss out on anything shared by the hostesses.

Touch down Addis Ababa and cold greeted me. I had my jacket in my bag but decided to form hard guy hard guy,my hardness became soft when a lady who clearly saw me shivering had to ask me why I was suffering myself. I thought I could withstand anything but my body failed me.

We wandered around the airport for a while before we got lodged in a 5 star Ethiopian airline hotel cos the next flight was 22 hours away.

The skylight hotel is indeed 5 star, it war my favorite part of the whole journey. I got my key card and went straight to my room. I opened the door and 2 king sized bed were looking at me... Shuuu... Me wey dey sleep for 3 and a half bunk bed go come sleep for two beds....This is indeed the H'abroad life. Trust ur boy na, I made sure I slept on the two beds at the same time.... I scattered myself everywhere. The weather was still cold even indoors, I took a warm bath and got under the duvet.

Next morning, I called the kitchen and ordered for breakfast, the lady at the other end mentioned what was available for breakfast.. Aswear I didn't hear a thing she said, I only heard sausage and I said I wanted it, she asked what I wanted with it and I said whatever you people put with sausage should be added.. I can't be stressing my brain on a food I know nothing about. After 20 minutes I got a knock and the food came in..... I was confused where to start from but aswear life is good with good food mhen.
I slept off immediately after the food and woke around 4, I immediately dialed the kitchen for lunch but I was told lunch time was over except if I wanted to buy.. Buy kini? Is that why we are here? Abeg, I'm not hungry again. I carefully asked when dinner was going to be ready and I was told 6.30. Few minutes to 6.30 I picked up the phone to order fast before affliction go rise the second time. The lady told me what was available for dinner and again I didn't hear a thing...all I heard was broccoli... So I said she should gimme the food with the broccoli. 30 minutes later, food came in and it looked confusing again. I so much like confusing foods.... I settled in and started eating it.... Truly, butter isn't monkey's food o.(butter onshe ounje obo) I tasted the broccoli and I hated myself for it. I wasn't brought up to be wasteful so I gathered boldness and started swallowing them.

The meal was good, I relaxed by watching a football match and that's how I completely lost track
Of time. I was on my King sized bed when a call came in from the reception asking if I don't plan to leave their hotel again. Apparently my group members looked for me and none knew my room number so they left me st the hotel and asked the receptionists to fetch me out from wherever I was hiding... My village people wanted me to miss my flight but God pass them. I jumped out of bed, took my Kaya and hurriedly left the room. Got to the reception and the receptionists were low-key shaking head for me. I had to wait for the shuttle bus to come take me to the airport m. I got to the airport and my group members bombarded me with a lot of questions asking if I over slept or just lost track of time.... I told them I felt the hotel was Canada

Boarding time came and the plane was a whole lot bigger buy almost half empty. Most people had a full row to themselves. Ethiopian airline decided to trick us into believing that there would be in-flight entertainment. The screens were working, people had already started getting comfy with the screens with some trying to choose movies while others like me just wanted to check out their Playlists. That's how flight started and the screens went blank o. Could see the disappointments and anger in people's faces but no one to complain to. Everyone adjusted their seats and stretched their bodies.

Through out the entire duration of the flight, the hostesses bombarded us with foods.... We were served a nameless but delicious food twice with a whole lot of juice, alcohol, coffee and snacks to go with it.

Finally we landed in Toronto, the weather was good and documents checks and everything went fast. I didn't spend upto 10 minutes getting my copr stamped and hearing the much awaited welcome to Canada phrase. I wasn't even asked for my POF or what my quarantine plan was. The officer just went on reading my rights to me... abeg free me, na only welcome to Canada I wan hear.

I got my bags and checked them in for the last leg of the flight. Waited for close to 5 hours for the last leg, fortunately there was wifi which was not available all thru our 22 hours stay in Addis Ababa. (the govt shut down the country's internet due to their political crises)

The last leg to Edmonton was rough, the turbulence was much. I began ti wonder what was happening. Even the longer flights from cotonou to Addis then from Addis to Toronto didn't suffer a turbulence this much. The cute lady beside me slept for the better part of the journey while I was finding it hard to sleep. I was calm tho cos I got TCC (travel clearance certificate) from my village ppl and they already promised not to follow me to Canada. So I had nothing to worry about.

Landed in Edmonton and saw that one of my checked in bags was ripped. I wasn't surprised tho cos the bag had a whole lot of orisirisi and panti foodstuffs.
Stepped out of the airport and was greeted with cold but I decided not to use my jacket, I got shocked when my host came wearing armless and said the weather was warm... Ki lo warm exactly? Are you people playing me ni? It was at that moment I started dreading winter. As I type this, my jacket is on while people are wearing pants n bra outside my window

I'm settling in quite well even tho I'm still in shock how 10pm can be looking like 4pm and 5am be looking like 9am. There's no way one can predict the time by looking outside in this country.

It's time to start 'living life' as opposed to just 'merely existing' in Nigeria

I'm finally HOME. 10/7/20
Home is where an average person can afford 3 square meals per day. Home is where security is well guaranteed. Home is where there is no huge discrepancy between the rich and the poor. Home is where our resources and funds are not being embezzled by our corrupt leaders . Home is where there are job provisions for graduates. HOME is where there is HOPE!! Home is, home is, home is, home is.................. CANADA
Have a dream and work towards making it a reality.

NB. I wrote IELTS twice just because I don't like to proofread so pls ignore the plenty errors n typos.

Thanks everyone. I will update this thread as much I can in a bid to see Canada thru my eyes.
Let's fire on!

My first canny experience happened in the washroom at Toronto Pearson International Airport. I was waiting for my last leg at the airport, I felt pressed so I made my way to the washroom. I went in with my sanitizer with the hope of Sanitizing the toilet bowl before sitting on it. I got in there and realized that it was my sanitizer that needed to be sanitized by the toilet bowl cos it was looking cleaner than crystals. As if that wasn't enough, I finished the doings, stood up and the toilet flushed automatically ... Like really... Who asked you? I wasn't sure how it knew I was done .. That's how I used the next 5 minutes looking for the sensor on the toilet bowl o. Finally found it and I decided to trick it by running my palm over the censor and the toilet flushed again.... That's how I won the cold war between myself and the toilet bowl in the washroom o. This Canada ehn.... I must explore
