Angelinastto:Lol. Better occupy your mind with other things. Nigeria don't value ur education and well being. Keep ur mind away from convocation till next yr. I have a large farm down south. We can manage it together incase u need a place of work. |

proffemi: True. More people died in Sweden (relative to their population) than in other countries in Europe. Their herd immunity mantra turned out not to be a great idea. Their economy also didn't thrive better under COVID 19 than others in the final analysis. |

bettermike:Exactly. I hate practically everything about ASUU. Those guys made GEJ bow to their pressure and he gave them Billions only for them to embezzle. PMB is dealing with them through IPPS and they are complaining. Only know how to collect money and f**k students 3 Likes 1 Share |

proffemi: Nobody will die. Let's stop putting it into the equation. What we ask for is SAFE reopening of schools. That's all. School is better regimented than other places that have reopened so far. For instance, it is easy for school management to order all students to wear face covering before they enter the premises and they all have to obey it. 2 Likes |

uchrikk:Sorry, I am an academic, so forgive me for asking what gives you this confidence?Where is the evidence? What we ask for is SAFE reopening of schools. That's all. School is better regimented than other places that have reopened so far. For instance, it is easy for school management to order all students to wear face covering before they enter the premises and they all have to obey it. You are obviously not a teacher, or don't have kids in the age bracket we are talking about. You actually think kids in Gragra Village College will follow those silly guidelines? Did you actually go through the original guidelines? Finally, do you honestly believe Nigerian kids and schools will be more disciplined than their Israeli counterparts? Do you know that the Israeli experiment with reopening their schools is falling apart as we speak? You cannot be more concerned than I am; I have kids writing SSCE. But you cannot just wave your hands and tell us that everything is okay. Show us the facts, show us the evidence and show us *realistic* guidelines. |

proffemi: i guess your WASSCE candidate kids have been staying indoors observing all COVID19 Safety measures. If so, I congratulate you for doing a good job keeping them so. Honestly, the ones I see around my area are different, so much that I strongly opine that going back to school is safer for them during this period. Secondly, if they didn't die of COVID19 over the last few months after carelessly mixing up with people without protection, I don't think they will suddenly die at school. Nevertheless, a parent is free to keep his/her children at home till when he feels it is safe for them to join the rest at school. Allow those who are ready to risk it the opportunity to do so. On Israel, their situation is truly becoming messier, but schools are still open. The authorities close schools where students test positive. We can do the same over here. 7 Likes |

uchrikk: There is a major misconception in your post. You seem to assume the kids are the ones at risk here. That is not the problem. The problem is that the kids will (while remaining asymptomatic themselves) infect people in more vulnerable age groups, like their diabetic Geography teacher, or their hypertensive principal. Nevertheless, a parent is free to keep his/her children at home till when he feels it is safe for them to join the rest at school. See why this is a Pandora's box now? Knowing as we do with 100% confidence that there will be positive tests (because there will be sha), are you saying the SSCE for schools with positive tests should be cancelled/stopped, or should we ignore positive tests, sicks teachers and just forge ahead all in the name of rushing an SSCE for students, most of whom are trying to enter universities that will remain closed and not ready to admit them anytime soon? My point is: I do not see why we should rush and take risks. If we had scientific data (I see no reason why we don't, with all the "researchers" in Nigeria, but that is another discussion) that predicted a safe reopening, sure. But in the absence of that, why take risks? |

proffemi: My point is that we should not delay the normal progression of school pupils because we are afraid of what might happen at one or two schools where the principal and staff might fail to make their students abide by the safety guidelines. Any principal or teacher who knows the worth of his onion should be able to order all students, and even parents to wear their face covering before they approach their office or staff roomc, not to talk of entering the school compound. If many students or staff test positive at such schools, it should be shut down. They then write SSCE next year and probably continue regular classes after two, three or four weeks during which disinfection procedure must have taken place. As for who is at risk of dying of the virus; I think everybody is at risk. The older ones are at higher risk, but there are reports of people below 10 years of age who also died. So everyone should take all the necessary precautions. 1 Like |

schumastic: Who told you that it's only on schools, the Virus would spread, nobody is saying is a hoax or anything, but the disease has come to stay a while, and not going anytime soon, should the schools be the closed for ever? The nation's that are still saying no school for now, their kids are doing online classes, which 90% of Nigerian students aren't doing. Do you know the devastating effects of locking down education for a year or more. I'm not saying resume so we all go due there. But put things in place to ensure safe reopening and do a staggered opening, so as to control population, since our schools are overcrowded. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Will Governor Sanwo-Olu decide against caution? I doubt Lagos is ready for school reopening since the state is the epicentre of the nobel coronavirus. |

uchrikk: One or two schools? Do you know that there are close to 10,000 secondary schools in Nigeria? Bros, take it to the bank, you will have positive tests in at least 500 schools over the next few weeks. And for you to think a principal "worth his onions" can prevent students from infecting themselves or others shows that you are out of touch with how secondary schools in Nigeria operate. No matter how many guidelines, will you stop students from walking home together? Playing together? You may think it makes sense to just cavalierly blame principals for infections, but there is no power on earth that can stop students infecting others. That is what the Israel example shows us. You are also cavalier in implying some students should just write SSCE next year because of a stupid rush that I have already shown makes no sense. Isn't that cruel of you? As for who is at risk of dying of the virus; I think everybody is at risk. The older ones are at higher risk, but there are reports of people below 10 years of age who also died. So everyone should take all the necessary precautions.Everything you've said here is obvious to anyone who has followed this outbreak. I was was de emphasizing the kids because your initial post made it clear that you thought the main concern was about kids dying. Edit: For your information, Israel had less than 50 cases a day (and we have much more). They reopened their schools, now see what they are saying: https://www.wsj.com/articles/israelis-fear-schools-reopened-too-soon-as-covid-19-cases-climb-11594760001 You people should stop sentimental arguments, and base decisions on FACTS, and EVIDENCE. Follow the accurate DATA wherever it leads. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is one case where the Aboki man (not my words; that's what others have been calling him) is right. |

proffemi: Mr man, do you know how many people have already been infected by coronavirus and have been healed? Without leaving their premises. People with loss of smell and taste. Corona will go round but it is not deadly as alarmed by Bill Gates and his wife. I know that the population is now ready to confront this disease as it has gone round already. |
