The purpose of this article isn't to undermine the importance of formal education, nor to discourage you from the system.

Instead, to equip you with the knowledge to make a better decision for your life.

When you can stand at a high horizon and see the system for what it is, you'll never be confused about what to do in life.

Here are some of the reasons why I hate the school system, and why you should, too!

1. Treats All As One

We are all different, with diverse gifts and abilities. Unfortunately, the school system doesn't see us that way.

In its eyes, we are the same. Taught the same subject, given the same instruction, and pushed to the marketplace like robots.

Discovering our individual gifts is a path we often journey alone.

When we try to derail from the structures of the school system, we become rebels with no future.

I remember my days as an undergraduate. When others were struggling with their books in night class, I was in my hostel learning and planning my first business.

I paid dearly for it through low grades. Looking back, i have no atom of regret.

Despite being a student of entrepreneurial studies, my lectures still failed to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship.

Do i blame them?

Of course not! How can someone who depends on a monthly paycheck lecture me on self-reliance?

It's an irony!

2. The subject of money

Money has always been a sensitive subject, even at home.

As usual, i was told to read hard, graduate with a good result, and get a job.

There is nothing wrong with that, right?

To me, there was. I knew I wasn't ready to follow this conventional path. I knew it!

Going to school and learning Algebra and calculus was depressing. I wanted real financial education, but they were all preparing me to be an employee.

Everything i learned about money came from books and YouTube videos.

The fact is, I've learned so much from these platforms, compared to the classroom.

I mastered the concept of liabilities and assets and began to build my portfolio in my chosen field.

This is something that the school will never teach you!

Except, perhaps, few enlightened lecturers.

3. Takes Your Time

As a student, your time is not yours. You're either getting ready for the next class, preparing an assignment, or perhaps preparing for a test or exam.

The only time you might get a little breathing space might be during public holidays, in which you're bombarded with assignments to keep you occupied. Almost useless!

The school system doesn't give you time to focus on your side hustle, to develop your skill, or be better.

The system wants you to focus on your book, all day, learning facts and figures you might never use in life.

When you try to fight it, the fear of not being able to cover the gigantic course outline keeps you in check.

Your time is not yours!

4. Slavery for life

The ancient way of slavery has been abolished. We're in the era of modern slavery.

An era where your life is like running around a circle: work from 8 to 5. Get paid, handle the bills and the circle begins all over again.

This is where you see the A student, working like a robot just to pay the bills. When he stops, the money stops flowing which is a terrifying experience.

When the boss mistakenly fire, it as if the world has ended.

5. Life of poverty

Poverty is not only when you live under a bridge, eating from hand to mouth.

I had a vision, to be able to travel the world without having to explain myself.

I dreamed of a life where i am in control of my time, finance, and self.

If you cannot give yourself a one week holiday without your boss's permission, you're poor.

If you can't buy that car, house, or gold, you're poor.

I've seen folks who make over N500,000 a month and yet, they are the poorest people I've ever met.

They will only be free when an illness hits, or when they have retired at old age. At that moment, they start wondering the point of it all.

Why was I here? To work only to die?

That is when the greatest regrets hits. They started weeping for the things they didn't do.

When they check their bucket list, they have accomplished nothing.

My Final Thought

In the end, we are not just fighting to make money, but fighting for the freedom it offers.

The freedom of time! The freedom to travel wherever we want. The freedom to spend time with family and friends, and be grateful for life.

I do not wish to be a modern slave, the reason why i delved into entrepreneurship.

Many tell me that everyone can't be an entrepreneur. Of course, everyone can't! If that happens, who will i employ to work for my business?

The point is to take a path in self-development, to have an entrepreneurial mindset that compels you to create multiple streams of income.

Being a doctor, a lawyer, or an accountant doesn't stop you from being an entrepreneur.

Your professional will make you money, but your entrepreneurial mindset will give you freedom!

Ever wonder why kids are afraid of school? Because at that age, they see the school for what it is - A prison until they are broken!

The arrogance of the so called entrepreneurs and self bosses is really annoying.
Talking about slavery, only a near sighted, narrow minded and foolish entrepreneur thinks he's not a slave.
We are all slaves to our desires and the type of life we want to live. Your life is just like that of an employee on salary. You put in an amount of work that is usually under appreciated by the wages you earn.
Yen yen "go on a long vacation".. "control my time" lol ...how many Entrepreneurs can afford vacations, how many can stay away from business for too long without getting kicked out of their rented apartment.
Entrepreneurs and employees are both slaves to their desires so don't let the boss figure fool you.
In a spontaneous world,we have people making it big and we have people struggling in all areas and across all works of life; just carry yours and shut the F up.
Everyone thinks the one he is doing is the perfect way.
By the way, what has school got to do with how one chooses to be employed. Going to school and getting an education will never be a limitation. Formal education has never stopped anyone from sharpening their skills.
You can talk about how you dropped out of school and still made it big,but pls Don't demarket formal education.

The school system should emphasis more entrepreneurship and skill acquisition.

Our curriculum is outdated and almost out of touch with our present world.

To survive in today's world you need practical skills

please be louder sir

I look at my boss most times and I wonder who is really a slave.
My boss or his employee. The employees are under his control for 8 hours and they have the night and weekends. They can party, delve into other area. They don't bother themselves with the finance, control, risk, troubles, and every contingency the business offers. My boss don't even rest on Sundays.

The truth is. We are all slaves to our desires like you rightly pointed out. The main thing is what you actually have to offer? Your skills that make you important in the position you play. When you are just a cog in the wheel that's where the problem is. How can you call an Architect that is gainfully employed in a building firm a slave? You will rather have him drop his license and open a store by the road side right?

Regarding Education. Apart from Jesus Christ, Education is the greatest thing to happen to mankind. It's the hub for training entrepreneurs and it is a place where you actually find yourself seeing that it gives you everything and the exposure to express yourself and the perfect audience to sell your idea.

You sound so bittered, and that is honestly not the right tone to comment.

At the infant establishment of any firm, the entrepreneur has to work harder than an employee would.

He has to put in more work, with the long term only in mind.

Through his growth mindset, he is able to expand, employ more hands and delegate some task.

That way, more freedom for him. He can decide to take a vacation and yet, business will keep moving cause he has employees.

Most times we confuse sole proprietors to entrepreneurs. They aren't the same!

The aim of the post isn't to rub entrepreneurship on your face, but to urge employees to not depend on paycheck alone.

Believe it or not, entrepreneurship is one of the paths to financial freedom! You can either move pass this bitterness and fear, or you can embrace it.

It's your choice, and it isn't for everyone!
