Referring to Olatunji's performance at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1985 he said, "When I die that music better be the one welcoming me to heaven or I'm turning back".

Mickey Hart said that he first heard Olatunji in Europe in 1959 and the music was amazing. He heard talking drums and chants for the first time and he's been chasing that music ever since and he's still chasing it now.

Santana said that the music made people hungry and they wanted more. People became interested in West African music, Cuban music, Indian music, etc. now they call it world music. He said that Olatunji influenced him, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, even John Coltrane, noting that Coltrane composed a track in honour of Olatunji and that Coltrane's last concert before he died was a benefit concert for the Olatunji Centre.
