Private School Proprietors Throng NAPPS Over FG Planned Remuneration, Commend VP by TheRareGem1(op): 6:15am On Jul 20, 2020
The President of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Bayelsa State, Dr Christiana MacDonald, says it’s secretariat has continued to witness influx of members for registration since the federal government announced plan to off-set salaries of private school staff to cushion the effects of COVID-19.

Speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa on Sunday, Dr MacDonald also lauded the Federal Government on the planned remuneration of employees of private schools across the country, describing it as a welcome development.

Both public and private schools in the country have been closed since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in March 2020, leaving teachers and owners of private school in a very harsh economic situation.

She commended the Federal Government for not only considering the plights of staffs of government owned schools, but also spear heading the proposed remuneration of private schools staff.

MacDonald called on members and intending members of NAPPS in the state to avail the association with necessary details to ensure that no one private school in the state is left out, saying the novel COVID-19 pandemic has dealt them a blow.

She said: “I want to commend the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo’s headed Economic Council for considering us, knowing that we are putting in our very best to make education better in Bayelsa and in Nigeria at large.

Just because of the FG bailout of private schools, many schools who were not registered under NAPPS have bombarded the association to get themselves registered at the 11th hour. What may happen next will be padding and falsification of data on the number of existing private schools. Once the FG suspects the process, they will just use that as an excuse to suspend or abandone giving out the promised bailout....Due to many private schools shortchanging their staff on salaries even prior to Covid 19, the FG should use this opportunity to set a regularized minimum wage standard for teachers in private schools before releasing any bailout to them. Else greedy proprietors may divert the bailout funds and pay peanuts or even nothing to their teachers.

Them no go still politicize this one again so?

Until now, what has really been the relevance of the said Association, seeing there there's little to nothing in form of regulations coming from them.

If eventually, the government approves any sum to them, chances are it will only benefit the top members, and the drops that may come down to some of the new members will not even get to their school staff.

Too many paper-efficient policies in Nigeria.

I do not trust this government. With delay tactics and unending excuses, all the private schools will forget the bailout fund. Las Las, the head of the associations will be bribed and then it's June 12

those who do not pay during holiday will want to still pocket the teachers holiday salaries after the fg has given them.

I believe this pandemic should be an opportunity to correct the many abnormal things going on in our educational system or we can never correct them again in future

This is highly impressive, no government has ever done this in the history of Nigeria. Private teachers have really suffered during this pandemic. God bless Osinbajo for this idea.

I no believe this story. Even if it's true it will never get to the teachers. Those above will cut their own first, then the proprietors will also cut before sharing probably 1k to each of their staff. This is Nigeria

FG should recognise only school that pays their teachers through bank accounts and pay the money directly to the teachers and not through the school accounts/proprietors.

But I thought the bailout would be in form of interest free/single-digit loan. In this case, no problem in getting as many schools as possible on board. This opportunity should be used to regularise all privately owned basic and senior secondary schools in Nigeria.

This time around, school owners will want to play a fast one on the government. No doubt, there will be very little or nothing for their teachers if the government finally pull this through. Also, so many mushroom private schools are not government approved, what will those ones do? Is at this point you know the color the human, especially most Nigerians is made of.

Will they qualify?
