NIPC: Kaduna Overtakes Lagos In Investment Flow by ijustdey(op): 8:50am On Jul 20, 2020
Investment announcements tracked by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) dropped by $10.09 to $5.06 billion in the first half of 2020, compared with the $15.15 billion investments recorded in the first half of 2019, translating to 67 per cent decline.

In the report released at the weekend, NIPC stated that, “The decline is consistent with the expected downward pressure on investment flows given the negative global economic impact of COVID-19.”

In the report, NIPC which tracked 34 projects across 16 states, FCT and the Niger Delta from January to June, 2020, listed the top investment destinations during the period as Kaduna State ($2.61bn), Lagos ($221m), Nasarawa ($56m), Ekiti ($50m) and Cross River ($15m).

The United States of America was the most active source of investments during the period, with 43 per cent of the announcements.

The other major sources were South Africa (31 per cent), domestic investors (16 per cent) and the United Kingdom (eight per cent). While the report may not contain exhaustive information on all investment announcements in Nigeria during the period, it however, gives a sense of investors’ interest in the Nigerian economy.

“NIPC did not independently verify the authenticity of the investment announcements but is working on tracking the announcements to facilitate their progress to actual investments,” the commission revealed.

Meanwhile, NIPC announced that negotiations with the leadership of the NIPC staff union on their industrial action had been concluded.

A statement released by the commission’s Director, Strategic Communication Department, Mr. Emeka Offor, indicated that after extensive discussions with union officials over several days, two agreements were signed by all parties on Friday to end the week-long industrial action.

Most recently, Edo State prove to everyone that they're not Lagos "politically"

Now, Kaduna is also letting us know that they're not Lagos "Economically"

This is good for our democracy....

Tinubu has destroyed the Jewel of the SW politically, economically and morally.

We all know this is impossible. If true, I guess it's because of the covid-19 impact on Lagos.

The ones on nairaland are shouting everyone should leave Lagos for them..

Well, many are getting the message and looking towards others states to establish their economic viability..

Other state governors are striving hard to create economic viability for investors while the sophiscated ones are shouting leave Lagos for us..

Nobody is sleeping and the best is yet to happen as investors are now freely moving to other states

AS expected

if there is only one thing in which respect El Rufai for it is his perfect understanding of how investments works. i know how el rufai acheived this. let me tell people

1. when he became governor he created KADIPA kaduna investment promotion agency, this agency was mandated to promote investment potential of kaduna state to the world. This method is how other countries attract investment no other story

2. all other parastatals in kaduna state are under kadipa, both housing, mining , etc. meaning investors can have liscences ready in a day without delay which investor wont invest in kaduna state where processes has been eased

3. the deputy governor heads kadipa so any investor related issue can be reach the governor with ease

even a mad man would prefer to invest in kaduna state than lagos

4. Reduced taxation to the barest minimum to attract investors

The former governor of imo state Emeka Ihedioha copied the idea and created insipa to attract investment in imo state i was lucky to be somewhere he was saying it. they removed him i know that project is dead by now

Every state in nigeria has to have their own investment promotion agency if they really want to create jobs and generate IGR. NIPC cant carry all states in nigeria at once.

What I don't really understand is why we celebrate foreign investment in Nigeria

I'm happy Igbo towns are 99.99% indigenous investors

A foreign Investor would invest 20 million into your local economy ...take out 500 million over the next 10 years ...and we wonder why we are not growing ?

It is not about any governor, but donor nations and people financing. Most of the projects will be eradication of poverty and health care.
