Started watching vision of escaflowne TV some time back. While I was still a bit interested the shojo elements of the story just turned me off.

I watched the Escaflowne movie instead, which was more darker and without the annoying shojo tropes. If you're into mecha or not, it's a decent watch. 7/10 for me.
Has an epic soundtrack I still can't forget.

Nice one bro...but I've wasted much data for not-making-sense animes b4 in d past...so I decided if any anime's ratings is not from 7.5..above.....it's not worth it!

All I can say is WATCH IT!

It's hella entertaining. Amazing animation, wacky characters, over the top racing.

Flip Flappers animation is what got me through to the end. The anime's greatest flaw is its self-indulgent writing. It had too many episodes where it prioritized style over substance and
were difficult to get through. However, I still believe that it is worth watching.

One problem that a lot of 'intellectual' anime seem to have is that they forget to actually make a good show while delivering their message.

well I also still believe it's worth watching but if I were to recommend it I'd tell anyone to watch the part where everything gets explained first then start from the beginning...unless it's for the animation...

And also yeah the so called intellectual animes who all have this great/fantastic idea/premise (not necessarily original but simply interesting/thought provoking) but somehow execute it so poorly it's just unbelievable e.g concrete revolutio...an anime whose premise is showcasing just how truly subjective and biased the concept of 'Justice' is, it portrays racism terrorism security etc and makes you question the objectivity of such labels by showing how biased the process for attaching such labels is...but the problem with it is that it does this in most chaotic, confusing and by extension migraine inducing way possible...the timeline of episodes is like 3 days ago, yesterday, tomorrow, today, 7 years later, 30 years ago, 3 months ago, 2 weeks later, and then today (which today abeg)...I also finish this because 'SAKUGA!!!'...but I can never recommend this to anybody though...waste of time animes like concrete revolutio puts me in a 'i'm really fed up' mood and the worst part is I'll still eventually stumble upon stuff like it again...*sighs*

An action fantasy from Kyoto animations.

I'd have to rewatch it to judge it again, but my previous rating was 8/10. Has nice visuals, nice animation, an enjoyable story at least for me and the Moe you'd expect from kyoani.
The MC is an immortal half yomu with a glasses fetish.

Very true. I remember watching Serial Experiments Lain and thinking "you could have conveyed the same message in like half the number of episodes". Even Angel's Egg, as short as it was still managed to waste several minutes on dead air and panning shots.

This isn't even limited to only anime. Blade Runner 2049, had this same problem. It had a great movie buried somewhere within its 2 hour 44 minute run time but still flopped. Why? Maybe because we don't need minute long panning sequences for establishing shots, maybe we don't need to spend 10 minutes watching a character go to a place and retrieve an object without incident.

At the end of the day, when these movies or anime fail to do well commercially, it's easy for elitists to blame audiences when the truth is that there are obvious filmmaking flaws in a lot of these "intellectual" projects.
