It is indeed very arguable when said that America is the "greatest" country in the world.

First of all, what does it mean to be a great country?
According to the UN charter, the 3 basic indices of a sustainable human life boils down to;
1. The mortality rate.
2. The economic growth and development.
3. The safety and security of human life, ie, the rate of crime and loss of life.

On this basis, can it really be said that America is the best country that has the best rate of these indices?

America is the richest country in the world, but you have a situation whereby the disparity between the rich and the poor is very large compared to other wealthy nations too. That large wealth is highly concentrated in the hands of a few and a vast majority of its citizens live on just basic income.

You also have to look at the welfare system in other wealthy European nations and see how much better those countries look after their poor citizens and the aged much better than the American system.

2. America's health care system is a quality health care system but one that is consumed by its ultra capitalism.
You have a situation whereby individuals are constantly seeking to make as much money as they can from ailing individuals, Unlike In Europe where the wealthiest countries have a centralized health care system like the NHS in UK and that of Germany that subsidizes the cost of healthcare costs of for it's citizens.

It is much cheaper to treat yourself in Europe than in America despite having comparable qualities of health care.

Lastly, It is fairly obvious to state that security in America is quite alarming for an advanced country. Before you even factor racially motivated crime.
In America, you have a terrifying situation whereby almost every single adult feels the need to buy a gun to feel safe.
America has the highest crime and incarceration rate of any advanced country, thousands continuously die of gunshot wounds daily.
The quality of the police-civilian relationship has always been very poor unlike other wealthy countries like Germany, UK and France. America has the highest no of gangs and street urchins worse still armed with automatic weapons.

Short and simple. American safety is the poorest compared to other 1st world countries.

So you can see, it's sort of a myth to say that America is the "greatest" country in the world. Being the richest country and having the best military doesn't necessarily translate to it's citizens having the best quality of life.
An average citizen of Germany or UK will boast of having a good chance of economic upward mobility, while also boasting of feeling very secured in a society without guns and a very healthy incarceration rate, one where their country focuses on rehabilitation rather than incarceration. One where they can count on their government to provide good quality health care for all it's citizens and not left at the mercy of capitalists and insurers.
