kingzizzy:Uche's mother is from Umuahia and he grew up with strong affinity to them. He is also a member of Association of Ikwerre people with Igbo kindred. If Ikwerre is Igbo, will it not be ridiculous that such association exists? Like having association of Ibadan people with Yoruba kindred , or the Association of Nnewi people with Igbo Kindred. |

Tranquill:So what is the difference between someone from Umuahia and some from Diobu in Ikwerre? They both speak Igbo and have Igbo surnames. If the only difference is denial then what it means that tribe based on acceptance or denial. In other words, if the Umuahia people decide tomorrow that they are not Igbo, then that means they are not. If the Ngwa man of Abia, the Nsukka man of Enugu, the Ezza man of Ebonyi all decide that they are not Igbo, then they are not because the only thing that separates them from Ikwerre is denial. Being Igbo is not based on denial or acceptance, its all about your ancestral language and ancestral surname. Ikwerre people are just as Igbo as anybody else. |

kingzizzy:Ikwerre people know who they are and they have told that they are not Igbo. Just move on with your own identity and stop forcing yourself on others. |
| Re: My Question For Ikwerre, Epkeye And Anioma Groups. by kingzizzy: 4:06pm On Jul 23, 2020 |
Tranquill:Yeah we heard, being Igbo is all about denial and acceptance. Anybody can be Igbo on Monday and not be Igbo by Friday depending on whether they deny or accept. |

[quote author=duncun post=92021710]Not hating! But reading some of the claims made online defines the reason negros are rated below in critical thinking. Most of us might have a thought, but we will rather let those thoughts die in our minds than nurturing, researching and eventually turning it into a reality, this is why we don't command respect in the world, and the reason we are not growing as much as we should. I assume you're an adult, read your submissions on this thread again and see why I came up with mine. Some other comments that should have made you sober minded including the one OP made, you simply dismissed because you wish to remain in the narrative that was passed down to you.] I dismissed it with fact got from research and u are free to confirm because since everything was oral alot will be lost with time. I get were u are coming from but u furthering a racist ideaology by assuming i didn't think through my comment because the white man said so |

1)[Pro Igbos: they are basing their points on similarities of languages and culture. 2) Anti-Igbo: They are basing their points on their N[s][/s]ON- NRI ancestries. Oga, please make your research next time before you write. Where have you read that ALL Igbo clans within and outside the SE are of NRI ancestry. Many Igbo clans from Abia come from Ibibio and Cross River groups. Some parts even claim the same Benin migration/origin.Yet, they are not less Igbo like those claiming NRI ancestry |

spiritmasquerad:That is why you are grouped as Igbo. There are over 500 Igbo dialects. But once your BIA is come, you are Igbo because no other ethnic groups say bia as come. |

Tranquill:It will not be strange because even though we think Ikwerre is Igbo, they don;t think they are. So, such association is meant to unite both sides that are not united at the moment. Even if Ikwerres agree to be Igbo, being Igbo will come naturally to them because they've drifted for too long. I'm neither referring to culture or traditional but more with socialization. |
| Re: My Question For Ikwerre, Epkeye And Anioma Groups. by Tranquill: 3:22am On Jul 24, 2020 |
Afam4eva:I like your civility. Many prominent Ikwerre people also belong to that association like the former Chief judge Justice Iche Ndu, former deputy governor Late Frank Eke, Emmanuel Aguma etc, but the fact is that, most members of that association also hold the strong view that Ikwerre is not Igbo even more than those with no Igbo connection. |

| Re: My Question For Ikwerre, Epkeye And Anioma Groups. by Tranquill: 3:43am On Jul 24, 2020 |
mrvitalis:What will DNA show? Some folks have argued here that being Igbo has nothing to do with ancestral origin but solely language and culture. So how would DNA show who is Igbo or otherwise? |
| Re: My Question For Ikwerre, Epkeye And Anioma Groups. by mrvitalis(m): 3:47am On Jul 24, 2020 |
Tranquill:Sure DNA would show who u are related to , mostly likely tribe and origin ....infact clan u migrated from ....is all science Most black Americans can trace their root to their village with just DNA The last one I read was about okrika ...showing them having 50% Igbo DNA |

You have just buttressed my points. *There are some clans that aren't ancenstrally related to the Nris but nevertheless accept the Igbo identity because they have the right to do. *There are groups like Ikwerres and Ekpeyes who speak similar languages like Igbo but aren't ancenstrally related to the Nris and reject the Igbo tag because they have the right to do so. Issues like this happens all over the world because ethnic groups are man-made creations and it's always difficult to decide where one ethnic group ends and where another one begins. For example, Mangawa & Kanuri Ogiri-Mangogo & Yoruba Akoko-Edo &Edo& Yoruba Igede & Idoma oceania100: |

Most Communities that have existed side by side and INTERACTED for centuries will of course have similar DNA make up. Many Igbos will show similar DNA structures to Idoma, Igala, Ijaw, Ibibio, Efiks etc. Most Hausas also have DNA from Bolewa, KareKare, Fulanis and surrounding tribes. Many Yoruba people have Bini,Nupe, Afemai, Fon and Ibariba ancesteries and this show similar DNA structures to these surrounding tribes. mrvitalis: |

Etche to me is a pure Igbo group, there dialect is no different from Aba people, Ikwerre identity on the other hand is understandable because of the heavy mixture with Ijaw groups like Kalabari and Okrika their language shows more difference than other igboid groups |

Afam4eva:If being Igbo is all about who sees himself as Igbo and who does not, then what it means that anybody can be Igbo any time they want, and stop being Igbo any time they also want. What it means is that an Hausa man from Kano can get up one day and say he now sees himself as Igbo, therefore he must be, because he sees himself as one. It also means that an Igbo man from Imo can get up one day and decide he is now Yoruba as sees he now sees himself as one. In essence, what you see your self as is what you are. If I see myself as Japanese, then thats what I am. Isnt that really laughable? |
| Re: My Question For Ikwerre, Epkeye And Anioma Groups. by oyatz(m): 7:08am On Jul 24, 2020 |
Please replace the word 'denial' in this post with 'identification' You can't determine for Ikwerres or any group of people what their identity should be, this is arrogance taken too far. The Igbos- Ikwerres relationship have similarities in all parts of the world. Have you seen Idomas coming online to always insist that Igedes are Idomas? Have you seen Kanuris always coming online to insist that Mangawa are Kanuris? How many times do you see Yorubas coming online to insist that Ogori-Mangogos must accept the Yoruba ethnic tag? Do Ijaws always come online to claim Ogbia must accept Ijaw identity? All these people decide for themselves where they belong and most easily accept the ethnic affiliations voluntarily with a minority sub-groups claiming otherwise. I have seen one of my ex-students whose Surname is Ogunmola and whose family speak Yoruba Language naturally without learning it but said they aren't Yoruba and also not Ebira but simply on their own as Ogori-Mangogo. kingzizzy: |

oyatz:In other words, if the Ngwa man chooses himself as Ngwa and not Igbo, he stops being Igbo. If the Nsukka man decides to identify as Nsukka and not Igbo, he stops being Igbo. Any community can choose when and when not to be Igbo just by rejecting being Igbo. If my community rejects being Igbo and identify as Japanese, everyone should respect their right to be Japanese. Lol |

Igboid:Oh so you know this yet you still occasionally accord some confused people from certain quarters cook up rubbish about Ukwuani here? All the Igbo clans will be referred to as Igbos by me until a referendum is done and they vote against Igbo consensus. Thereafter their fate will be sealed. Until then, certain elements no matter how influential they be will not make me reject the whole clan. Not to talk of the many serpents here from the Wastelands camouflaging as members of those clans. I won't pay attention to all those. |

nengibo:Lol. What makes Kalabari to be Ijaw? Do they speak like Ijaws from Bayelsa? What about the Andonis? Do an Ijaw from Bayelsa understand him when he speaks? Yet you can call all of these groups Ijaw but want to call Ikwerres something else from Igbo. It is that same similarity that connects Kalabari to Ijaws in Bayelsa that connects Ikwerre to other Igbo clans. |

kingzizzy:ikwerre people have told you they are not Igbos. Let them be. If you can go into ikwerre land especially obioakpor and sit among them to tell them that they are Igbos to their faces rather than online muses, come back here and give your testimony. Otherwise it is better to keep quiet and stop embarrassing the Igbo race. |

spiritmasquerad:There are more similarities than you know for now because you don't even know the culture and traditions east of the Niger. You can visit their during ceremonies and festivities to observe for yourself. What are the common proverbs particularly from your town? Say them here and see that majority are found in almost all other Igbo clans. |
