Tolulope Arotile: Jonathan pays tribute to
Nigeria’s first female combat pilot

Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has described late Nigeria’s first
female helicopter combat pilot, Tolulope Arotile as a brave patriot who pushed
her self beyond limits to demonstrate her uncommon love for the nation.
Jonathan in a statement he personally signed on Thursday said his
administration paved the way for the training of females at the Nigeria
Defence Academy (NDA) so as to give equal opportunities to all men and
women of the armed forces.

The statement reads:” My heart goes out to the family and colleagues of late
flying officer, Tolulope Arotile.

“She was a brave patriot who pushed her self beyond limits to demonstrate her
uncommon love for our dear nation. In the process, she made us all proud.
“In 2011 when my administration introduced females into the Nigeria Defence
Academy to train as combatants, for the first time, it was to give equal
opportunities to all men and women of the armed forces and encourage highly
driven female officers like Tolulope to excel in her chosen career, irrespective
of their gender.
“I feel sad that such a young gallant officer would die at the prime of her life. I
am however encouraged by the fact that she stood out as a pleasing fulfilment
of our dream of an all-embracing Nigeria armed forces devoid of
discrimination.
“By dedicating her young life to protect and defend Nigeria’s strength, honour
and unity, her memory and legacy will continue to serve as a great inspiration
to our youth especially our girls.”

GEJ had a direct hand in ensuring females are trained as combatants in Nigeria.

I am happy leaders are pouring out encomiums for this great episode of life.

I admire GEJ for this

At least one of our leaders said something about her, someone finally paid attention to what’s important

I admire Tolu’s courage as well , I mean she wa selfless even in the face of death

Kudos to GEJ for encouraging women like Tolu and giving them opportunity to take up such roles

It’s a pity Tolu didn’t live long enough to do more for herself and Nigeria

She must have had long term dreams and aspirations, but all was cut short

Her death is such a big loss to our nation, as such if anyone has something to do with it they should be brought to justice

She did not just have a long dream. She had what it took to achieve the biggest dream in her career and the Airforce was really paving the way.
It is really sad.

How come Mr president has nothing to say about this, why am I surprised anyways

The Nation has lost a weight

this is one of those occurrences that remind us that no one has tomorrow , we don’t even have the next five minutes

I feel if we get to talk about this more, more young women will be encouraged to follow in her footsteps

She was really a treasured asset

i wonder if she had plans to get married and raise her own family, but now she didn’t get that chance

She was our queen of the night watch

We must all be impactful wherever we find ourselves

She gave Nigeria her best years

It’s a pity no amount of years of conviction can bring her back

Her parents didn’t even ask for further investigations cos they just want to mourn their faith in peace

The pain of loosing a child is so great especially when they are making the family proud

Her death left a big void in her parents that can’t be replaced ever

“It is very regrettable that compassionate people, givers are dying and those that are alive are the drug addicts, the bandits, kidnappers and terrorists” those are the words of the priest at her funeral and I agree , but we can’t question God they say

It is good to know that our top dignitries are giving out their voice on her demise

Yes..its really impressive that GEJ supported the motion on women being part of the forces.
Tolu's demise is saddening,although life has to continue anyway
