Probably the efficiency of such system is extremely poor due to the percentage of vegetable matter in man's diet and also the volume of organic matter (feaces) we discharge daily.

That is why using cattle dung yields more biogas pound for pound than human faeces.

These are my guesses as a scientist. In addition, I guess there might be other environmental concerns that makes the technology a bit unattractive, hence its extremely limited application.
