Funny thing.. Had similar experience.

Told My brother to order food.. As I just came out from the hospital for runny stomach.. He said his wife had cooked bla, bla, bla... I said oga order food for me please..

Simply turn the down.. Finish. If they feel bad, their the evil people.. That want to guilt shame you.

This is one of the major problems in Africa.. Our stupid and sensles traditions.. My bros wife can't cook.. Am just out of the hospital and his offering me another route back. No please.

A simple but firm NO should suffice op.
If they don't agree, find your way, your only being being played by fooolish and no sense tradition, be different

Simply ensure you go out in the evening...eat out and buy snack for them at home.
If she brings food, tell her you ate outside and brought snacks for them.

Or you inform them you will not be back early so that they don't prepare your food.

Tell her you are feeling sick and want to change your diet.

Then think of something very simple that she will not mess up while preparing e.g. Ogi, Tea, custard, etc buy those stuff for the house or provide the money to her to buy them.

Eat to your satisfaction outside and show up in even with bread or akara for yourself and the family and take your custard and go to bed.

Rather than keep saying “I can’t/won’t eat”, you say “How about I fix us dinner tonight?”.

When you cook, the curiosity in them would naturally make them wanna see you do it again. They may even get the message and willingly take the back seat.

Anything else would be looked upon as destructive criticism. How can you even criticize food when you no fit boil water?

Does the food contains too much pepper? If yes tell them you don't eat pepper because of a medical condition. Tell her before you are given food and not when you are given the food. Eat outside and eat snacks at home

Always go back with fruits. Tell her you love to take fruits. Of course make sure you have eaten before going back to the house.

once I visited Ibadan, I had to stay in one of my yoruba uncle's house. To be frank that was the day I concluded that I'll never marry any woman who is not Igbo, akwaibom or cross river cos we all almost have same pattern of cooking. I ate everything they gave me because I did consider some efforts was put in cooking the food even maybe made specifically cos of the visitor but they were all terrible to my system, how can one use that vegetable called green to cook soup, I almost vomitted but am a strong man endowed with a strong stomach but I wasted money on andrew liver salt cos I do lick it steady for washing and setting.

Just prepare your belongings and tell her straight that she needs improve her cooking that she don't how. It will hurt but at least you're sincere. This action might send you packing right away or not. This action will I'll and she thank you for it some day for the courage you showed in telling her :/!

Just get tetracycline and flagyl on hand, once you eat you taje your drugs

First , was a short term stay like few days. What I did was to chop belle full outside then come back house and form vex because i was pursuing something at the time.. so i form say vex unto the parole make me loose appetite and stood my ground.

Second, was a bit of longer stay like 3 weeks or so, close to a month. I know if I use my old trick money will finish for my hand.. what I did was I said, hanty this your food no be here oo, I need the recipe..( her head swell ) I wanted to pin point where she went wrong.but pretended to be a novice.

Then I told her how I use to cook mine (which is the correct way to cook it ) after the soup finished, she tried my style in a small quantity and liked it.. the rest was history. (I think she later decoded what I did though - years later).

such an ill way of behavior. You are in no such position to do so, she is not your daughter nor your wife. Moreso you could be wrong in as much as you intend to tell her the truth.

It is better to simply tell her you notice you keep having running stomach anytime you eat her food. That is what we call honesty.
Afterward you could suggest maybe it is the maggi you uses.

Exceptional cases is if she confide in you and ask you for your honest opinion.

The two times I was in such a position, I was lucky enough to be the younger female relative and just took over the kitchen asap.

My food is important to me.

Tell her you're sick because clearly you are from eating that food!

Or tell her you're fasting or the doctor told you to avoid eating so and so, most people don't know about diets work so they will just accept it like that.
