All this are jus cheap political scores for election, former gov Agagu is a geologist and he knew the risks involved in bitumen exploitation so he never indulge in that as its a waste of resources just Ajaokuta steel company.

They only reason bitumen are not mined in Nigeria. because of low grade quality. the binding is very poor. but recent technology has been developed. all its requires is addictive to improve the quality.

Firstly, items are placed in the exclusive list to give ownership to the North (FG).

The Bitumen has been discovered before Obj government. This type of bitumen is different from the one extracted from heavy crude oil. The cost of exploration per cubic metres is far higher than the one from heavy crude oil because of its low quality, it requires a lot of processing. Obj established commission to develop the bitumen, after issuance of Licence, nothing heard. Agagu was a geologist, he met the commission, Mimiko also met it.

The North who owns and controls the Exclusive List are only interested in what benefit them, exploitation of Southern Nigeria resources for the benefit and development of the North. The Chinese is presently prospecting for oil in the North on JV with NNPC indirectly using billions of dollars loan for these projects and the gas line project.

Every election time is when they talk about bitumen in Ondo state for political reason. I don't know how Akeredolu can develop the bitumen. The FG should have invited the Chinese to develop the bitumen, but I know that is not part of their Agenda.

The South West is the second most exploited region in Nigeria while Lagos remains the most exploited city in the world. The South West States should establish South West Development Commission to be funded by States in the South West since the motion moved by Senator Ibikunle Amosun was rejected at the Senate. We can develop our resources by ourselves.

From Araromi-Ibeju Lekki road, to sea port and now bitumen exploration, Aketi is setting precedence propaganda.

Going to the fact around the bitumen, this deposit has been discovered over 30 years ag. In fact, successive military government had payed visit to the sight with nothing done about extracting it. The government of Obasanjo visited the sight in 2002 and established a commission to see into refining it. All through the first term of Agagu tenure, the bitumen project was a well talk about agenda during campaing, but fact began to emerge later that the biggest obstacle to harnessing the resources was the high cost of refining which wasn't deem economica. Why is Akeredolu lying to gain cheap popularity?

He is absolutely correct. Exploration is what you do when you search for mineral resources, exploitation is what you do when eventually get it out or process it. It is Geologically correct to use that term.

Akeredolu is only doing this to get cheap popularity. This is exactly why the man must lose the election. He playing on people intelligent rather than concentrating on meaningful impact.

When you are collecting the resources, its termed ' exploitation'.

After almost 20yrs i advice fed.gorment to revoke other idle licences issued.do we really know d potential of bitumen in road construction, pharmaceutical, chemical & so on..all those white people dnt want us to grow a resources u excavated just 3fts deep they told us it is very expensive to process,& we believe them,what is difficult to seperate fluid from sand?

Tho I'm not against them taking advantage of it, because it's South West that owns the company, but I hope they make use of it.
And develop the local governments they are taking it from.

I'm not sure, if the company is in partnership with Development agenda of western Nigeria (A commission set to develop southwest by Afenifere in partnership with South west governors)

If it's from DAWN, I know they'll make use of it.

We hope we will see the equipment 1year from now. I recall a few years ago, Lagos State government announced with much fanfare the acquisition of an automatic interlock brick laying machine.

Till today I have never seen in Lagos where the machine has been used. Probably ended up in a private construction company owned by someone in government. Maybe Planet Projects!!

Explotation Used was correct.
Exploration means search for deposit
Exploitation mean extraction from mineral deposit.

Im not from Ondo, but I think Akeredolu is thinking in the right direction with this initiative, fast-tracking the exploration of bitumen in Ondo state.
Lets think about it, every area in Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources -North. West, East and Sound, yet the focus of the nation has been on oil -Mostly South-South, which has relatively low value now.
If all states are allowed to mine/explore either directly by itself or through private companies, Nigeria would be beyond many countries right now - thats if corruption doesn't overrule. Beyond bitumen, too many other resources are just wasting away. Gold, silver, bismuth, iron, just name it. Everyone just relies on oil as if thats all the nation is worth.
Anyone found mining other areas without FG approval is considered a criminal. Open these doors and see how many talented youth/ graduates that will seize the opportunity right here in Nigeria with no thoughts of leaving the country for other nations that properly harness their resources.

We've been expecting this development for years, thank God it is eventually taking shape.

The whole LG area is awash with bitumen and oil deposits, we need serious foreign investment to tap these and lifts the community social and economic status.

So if is a waste of resources, why is Nigeria spending huge foreign currencies to import bitumen and asphalt from abroad to the detriment of our economy.

But thank the government has stopped the importation of the products recently and has mandated users to source for them locally.
