If we truly love God, we will keep his commandments. The God of old testament is still the God of the New Testament. Exodus 20:8-11(Exodus 20:8. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.)
Made it clear. Let us worship God on the Sabbath. That is God's command. The devil is doing his best to deceive people regarding the day of worship. I don't condemn anyone that worships on Sunday, but if you have learnt the truth from the word of God please do not harden your heart. Receive and believe it.

IKBARUTEN11:
a full day of rest and worship 2 God d creator
you worship Him by resting as He commanded on the day He chooses for you. Resting could mean sleeping, reading a book, watching a movie, etc. You accomplish absolutely nothing on that day except that which He wants and that is rest.

No church going, no cleaning etc.

sleep, read a book, watch tv etc. You accomplish nothing except rest. God gets to decide what you do on that day.

On sabbath day that God chooses for you, you are not even supposed to clean your house or leave the house to run errands or go to church. He, God decides what you do and how you do it on that day, and other days.

Jesus Christ fulfilled the law of sabbath.
Matt. 5:17 says that He's come, not to abolish the law and the Prophets, but to fulfill it. Some versions rightly used "accomplish their purpose (NLT)", "give them their full meaning (CEV)" etc instead of fulfilled. And I don't see how fulfilling something means it's stopped. Even Jesus wasn't talking about sabbath categorically here, he was referring to the whole Decagogue, so get your facts right.

Acts 20:7, that's the first reference to worship on a Sunday
This particular event took place on a saturday evening. Sabbath (friday sundown-saturday sundown) had just ended. Upon the 1st day (saturday, after sundown), the disciples came together to break bread (just dinner) and Paul was preaching to them until midnight (this is only because he was travelling the next morning, which is a sunday). How's a saturday evening preaching/dinner now a sunday service?
Technically, it wasn't even sunday yet.

The Sabbath is also a time for Adventists to spend with other people and with God. Adventists believe that the Sabbath is not just a holiday but rather is intended as a rest for believers to grow spiritually. ... Seventh-day Adventists teach that there is no evidence of the Sabbath being changed to Sunday in the Bible.

Sabbath is Friday to Muslims, Saturday to Jews and Sunday to Christians.
I call it Separation of power.lol

But to a follower of Christ, it is insignificant. It is not a matter of day of the week or geographical location. For those who worship the Father worship in Spirit and Truth as God seeks those to worship him. John 4:19-24

Where do they get that God sent them on His Sabbath to spend the time with other people?

And since the Sabbath is not a fixed day since Jesus Christ, why do all Adventists still believe it to be a fixed day? undecided
Do Adventists still subscribe to the Old Covenant or something? undecided
If yes, are they not aware that the Old Covenant was designed for the descendants of Jacob of which most Adventists are not? undecided

Jesus Christ was indeed referring to the Old covenant Sabbath laws when He declared Himself Lord of the Sabbath.
And yes, He fulfilled the requirements of the Old covenant on behalf of all those who instead will choose Him, the New Covenant.

Jesus Christ's New Covenant which He offers to those who are weary and heavy laden(Sick of the burden of the law of sin and death), commands a different approach to Sabbath, and worship in general.

Please read FinallyDead's post above. It gives insight into the true rest, ( Sabbath) that God wants us to enter.

wunmi590:
When God created the world, He rested on the seventh day. When God gave the ten commandments to Israel, He commanded Israel to rest on the seventh day as well. In Exodus 20:11 the reason given for that is that God rested on the seventh day from His creation work. In Deuteronomy 5, we find the second version of the ten commandments. The reason that God gives to rest on the Sabbath is to remember that the Lord delivered Israel from Egypt (Deuteronomy 5:15).

Sabbath law in the New Testament
So the Sabbath given by God in the Old Testament is the seventh day. It started with sunset on Friday and ended with sunset on Saturday. That is the Sabbath that the Jews are still celebrating.

How is the situation in the New Testament? In the New Testament we read that we are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14). Christians do not have to submit to the ceremonial law anymore. The New Testament shows in several ways that the Sabbath law does not apply to Christians:

All other nine commandments are repeated in the New Testament, but the Sabbath commandment is not repeated.
Paul never wrote to the gentile churches he planted that they had to keep the Sabbath. Since the Sabbath was not part of their culture, that certainly would have been necessary if Paul had been of the opinion that they had to keep a Sabbath rest.
The churches in the New Testament met on Sundays, not on the Sabbath, like the Jewish synagogues.
Paul explicitly teaches that the Sabbath is just a shadow of things to come, but that the reality is found in Jesus. He gives us the heavenly rest. Therefore Paul forbids us to judge other people on the basis of whether or not they observe a Sabbath (Colossians 2:16-17).
The Lord’s day
The Jews met on the Sabbath. Christians started meeting on Sundays (see Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2). They did that because Jesus was risen from the dead on a Sunday. And appeared to them at least on the first and second Sunday after He was risen (John 20:19,26). Almost immediately the Sunday was called ‘the Lord’s day’ (Revelation 1:10).

So it is clear that Christians do not need to keep the Sabbath on Friday and Saturday. It is also clear that the church, following Jesus’ lead, from the beginning had its main meetings on Sunday. This does not mean that the Sabbath laws were transferred to the Sunday. We are under grace, not under the law.

That the Sabbath is fulfilled in Jesus, and that we therefore do not painstakingly have to follow the Old Testament Sabbath laws, is great news. But it would not be wise if we would use that to say we can now work each and every day. That the Lord rested on the seventh day of His creation work still is a powerful lesson for us. Rest is a blessing that we receive from the Lord. That the Sabbath law is fulfilled in Jesus probably means we should enjoy rest more, not less than in the Old Testament; that we should focus on God longer, not shorter than in the Old Testament.

Jesus’ fulfillment
While we do not need to be afraid that we are sinning if we work on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, one great way to honor Jesus’ fulfillment of the Sabbath law is to set the Sunday as much apart as possible to go to church, to meet Christian brothers and sisters, and to focus on God through prayer, Bible reading and the reading of Christian books.

The Sabbath was created for man in Genesis during the creation account in Gen.1 and 2.
Sabbath day is Saturday being the seventh day (Saturday):Going by the days of creation days of day 1 to day 7.
Mark 16 gives a better picture of the day of the Sabbath...The account of crucifixion and ressurection of Jesus tells us that he observed the Sabbath in the grave and rose the first day of the week.Since we all know that Jesus rose on Sunday and the Mark 16records it that the Sabbath had passed so that gives a very clear picture that the Sabbath day is Saturday..
Brethren, shall we continue to follow the dictates of men or we follow thus says the Lord?
I humbly pray that the Lord Himself will minister unto our souls and teach us to do it right .

Hello bro, most of these your statement are assumptions.... No offence...... Let me take just correct one of it that relates to Apostle Paul as quoted by you :

Paul Ate at the Lord's Table on Sunday
Sunday keepers also use Paul’s actions at Troas to support Sunday observance. They maintain that Paul preached to believers (Acts 20:7) and believers partook of the Lord’s Table, both on the first day of the week.

If I were advocating Sunday observance, I would not use Acts 20:7 because this argument always backfires when the facts are investigated. To begin, notice the timing of Acts 20:7. At Creation, God established a day as a period of time between two sunsets. (Genesis 1; Leviticus 23:32; John 19:31)

In other words, the evening is used to mark the beginning of the night and the morning is used to mark the beginning of the light. Given God’s method for measuring time, Paul met with the believers in Troas as the first day of the week began, but in our world today, the first day of the week does not begin until midnight. Do you think Sunday keeping Christians should still observe Sunday from sunset to sunset?

“On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave [KJV: on the morrow] the next day, kept on talking until midnight. There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting.” (Acts 20:7,cool

Three facts stand out about this meeting that need thoughtful consideration:

1. Advocates of Sunday worship argue “the believers partook of the Lord’s Table,” but Acts 20:7 does not mention the believers partook of the Lord’s Table. The text only says they “came together to break bread.” Breaking bread does not necessarily mean partaking of the Lord’s Table. “Breaking bread” is an biblical expression for sharing or eating a meal. (Luke 24:35; Acts 27:35)

Notice this passage, taken from Acts 2 because it predates Acts 20 by fifteen or more years: “Every day they [the believers] continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46,47, insertion mine)

Paul’s preaching was interrupted by an accident at midnight. Eutychus went to sleep sitting in a window and he fell to the ground from the third story. The fall killed him, but the Holy Spirit brought Eutychus to life through Paul. After this miraculous event occurred, Paul went back upstairs, broke bread again and continued talking until daylight. At daybreak he left Troas with his traveling associates because Paul and his associates did not regard Sunday as a holy day! (Acts 20:9-13)

Before we proceed, consider this question: Let’s assume the assertion that Sunday worship is valid for a moment. Does partaking of “the Lord’s Table” on Sunday make Sunday a holy day? Before you answer do not forget that Jesus and His disciples ate the very first “Lord’s Supper” on a Thursday night. (1 Corinthians 11:23-25) After comparing the timing of Jesus and His disciples with that of Paul and his associates, which example is more important? Does either example make either day holy?

2. Additionally, Acts 20:7 does not describe a regularly called church service. The Bible says that Paul regularly worshiped on the Sabbath. (Acts 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; 19:cool Acts 20:7 is a farewell meeting, not a church service on a holy day. The meeting was held during Paul’s final hours in Troas because many of the believers suspected it could be the last time they would see Paul.

3. Is it possible that two meals and a farewell seminar in Troas makes Sunday a holy day? Does any man have the authority to cancel the law of God, the Ten Commandments? The Bible says that Paul left Troas at daylight (verse 11). He continued his journey on the first day of the week because Sunday was not a holy day in his mind.

The evidence in Acts 20 adds up to a simple conclusion: Paul and his traveling associates did not consider the first day of the week to be a holy day over fifteen years after Christ’s ascension.

Deepthoughts:
But if this were correct, isn't it wrong for anyone no matter how powerfu or irrespective of the circumstancesl to just change or alter a direct biblical directive?

There are many laws that seems to change for one reason or the other... I think wink
If there was no need for it, there won't be old Testament and a need for the New Testament... The new covenant being much better than the old!
I give 2 examples:

1. For example, inheritance was to male kids or family members only according to Mosaic laws but four daughters of a particular man who died without sons went to Moses and inquired from God. God said it was good and they should inherit their fathers properties.

I think some laws are still relevant while some are iron clad... Can't be changed!

2. A woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus and by Moses law, she would have been stoned to death! But Jesus did not allow it in his wisdom... Why didn't he allow Moses law to take effect?

Some alterations, God permits and I think anyday of the week a man dedicates to God for rest and worship is just fine! grin

PS.
According to law of Moses, a menstruating woman would be unclean and anything or anyone she touches will be unclean too. But many women on periods, choristers, female Pastors, women in the congregation go in without anyone discriminating against them... So

There is no such thing as 'Holiness' of the Sabbath day... You actions determine the holiness of that day as far as you are concerned.

Jesus Christ is a New Covenant for all those who will choose to accept what He came to bring to man. Those who chose to continue to follow the Old covenant though, have no share in what Jesus Christ offers mankind.

Yes they preached on Sunday and broke bread, but they never had a worship on Sunday, he even preached until Monday, it was not a worship. We are free to preach any day. The only day of rest is Saturday.

Jesus Christ came to offer an entirely New Covenant separate from the Old Covenant, and He warned those who will be His followers not to mix the Old with the New. You either accept the entirety of the Old Covenant or you accept the New Covenant, but you cannot have one foot in the Old and one foot in the New, as you will be no different from one who does not even chose at all.

As for the Old covenant, since it was designed for descendants of Jacob, it is impossible for a Nigerian living in Nigeria or anywhere outside of Israel to be said to be in compliance with that agreement. The Old covenant condemns all those who live outside of Israel and it also does not make available Abraham's blessing to anyone who is not a descendant of Jacob. There is no promise of the Spirit of God, Eternal life or the kingdom of God as far as the Old covenant is concerned.

"The Sabbath was made for man,
not man for the Sabbath
"
- Mark 2:27

Jesus, in Mark 2:27 above, was teaching the principle about the Sabbath rest, that it was instituted to relieve man of his labors, just as He came to relieve us of our attempting to achieve salvation by our works. As it is now, we no longer rest for only one day, but we forever stop our laboring to attain God’s favor by ourself, by our own works oand/or by our own righteousness/merit. Jesus is our Sabbath rest from works now, just as He is the door to heaven, where we will rest in Him forever

Yes, I observe the Sabbath, I in fact observe it, in some many other ways, asides day

It isn't restricted or limited to Friday Saturday or Sunday

It is as the spirit leads

I dont think they've been allowed to

Same to you

Dtruthspeaker, as for me, Yahusha is my/our Sabbath

Just out of curiosity, dalass, Dtruthspeaker and Finallydead:
1/ How do you guys/ladies, connect and relate Genesis 2:3 and Hebrews 4:1-6 together and with each other? Mind the former in Aramaic/Hebrew and the latter is in Greek.
2/ How did God in Genesis 2:3 rest?
3/ What is Hebrews 4:1-6 taking about in terms of "enter that rest" and/or "enter My rest"?
]

Wonderful Sunday to you.. Great and deep insights to the topic.....
1) I will wait for others to do justice to this grin

2) God rested by not doing anything at all on the seventh day.

3) According to Hebrews 4:1-6.... We must have confidence and faith in God... That is rest, not running helter skelter.... That's a short explanation grin

gave man Saturday as Sabbath day but Paul change it Sunday. Is Sabbath not a key fundamental in Christianity? Everything about Paul is for his own selfish again. Christianity is the religious of paul, hiding and blackmailing the good work of Jesus Christ.

Jesus didn't come to give us new commandments, He came to teach us to keep the 10 commandments. How best can you teach someone if not by doing? Is it against the law to do good or save lives on sabbath (Mark 3:4)? He's telling us no!
Matt. 5:17 doesn't imply you have the freedom to break any part of the law, in fact, Matt. 5:19 is a warning to that effect. Keep the sabbath, but with human face. That's what Jesus taught and practiced.
Jesus Christ's New Covenant which He offers to those who are weary and heavy laden...
Well, the Ten commandments was never referred to as law of sin anywhere in the Bible. It's the law of liberty (James 2:12), it's perfect (James 1:25) and it's good (Romans 7:12).
You have to keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus to not receive the mark (Rev.14:12)
Moral law is not the same as ceremonial law

DeOTR:
Jesus didn't come to give us new commandments, He came to teach us to keep the 10 commandments.

Matthew 11 vs 27-30 (ESV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Above is Jesus Christ telling you that He has indeed come to offer you a New Covenant that comes with it's own yoke and burden, which is different from the Old Covenant's yoke and burden.
DeOTR:
How best can you teach someone if not by doing?
First of all, Jesus Christ never called you to teach anyone anything. He called all those who will follow Him to preach that which He taught and nothing else.

Matthew 23 vs 8-12
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers.[c]
9. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.
10. Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ.
11. The greatest among you shall be your servant.
12. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
What you need to understand about the New Covenant that is Jesus Christ is that we are tools in the hands of God... God Himself promised from long before that He himself will teach His own about Himself.

Jeremiah 31 vs 31-34 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31. “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32. not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord.
33. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Jesus echoed this same in his instruction commanding His followers to see Him as the ONLY teacher, and only His teaching should apply.

John 14 vs 23-24 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23. Jesus answered, “All who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them. My Father and I will come to them and live with them.
24. But anyone who does not love me does not obey my teaching. This teaching that you hear is not really mine. It is from my Father who sent me.
Even John the apostle reiterated this need to have the Spirit of God as our one and Only teach as He is to teach us everything.

1 John 3 vs 20-27 (ERV)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20. You have the gift[a] that the Holy One[b] gave you. So you all know the truth.
21. Do you think I am writing this letter because you don’t know the truth? No, I am writing because you do know the truth. And you know that no lie comes from the truth.
22. So who is the liar? It is the one who says Jesus is not the Messiah. Whoever says that is the enemy of Christ—the one who does not believe in the Father or in his Son.
23. Whoever does not believe in the Son does not have the Father, but whoever accepts the Son has the Father too.

24. Be sure that you continue to follow the teaching you heard from the beginning. If you do that, you will always be in the Son and in the Father.
25. And this is what the Son promised us—eternal life.

26. I am writing this letter about those who are trying to lead you into the wrong way.
27. Christ gave you a special gift. You still have this gift in you. So you don’t need anyone to teach you. The gift he gave you teaches you about everything. It is a true gift, not a false one. So continue to live in Christ, as his gift taught you.

DeOTR:
Is it against the law to do good or save lives on sabbath (Mark 3:4)? He's telling us no!
He is the Lord of the Sabbath, and He alone directs us during His sabbath. That is how He designed it as opposed to the Old Covenant where the same rule applied to al of Israel.
DeOTR:
Matt. 5:17 doesn't imply you have the freedom to break any part of the law, in fact, Matt. 5:19 is a warning to that effect. Keep the sabbath, but with human face. That's what Jesus taught and practiced.
You can only break a law which you are under. Jesus Christ simply stated that He has not come to do away with the Old covenant which happens to be an everlasting Covenant between God and all of the descendants of Jacob - all those who are not descendants of Jacob and do not live among the Israelites are in fact condemned by that law.

Since those who are not selected for the Old Covenant are instead condemned by it, that is why God gave us Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ did warn against mixing Old wine and New wine - you cannot have one foot in the old Covenant and one in Jesus Christ - such a person is in no better position than one who has no God.
DeOTR:
Well, the Ten commandments was never referred to as law of sin anywhere in the Bible.
The 10 commandments is a part of the Old Covenant laws, penned down by Moses begining Exodus 17, it is in the Book of the Law of Moses. It is a part of Sin and Death.
DeOTR:
It's the law of liberty (James 2:12), it's perfect (James 1:25) and it's good (Romans 7:12).
The Law that is referred to here is the New Covenant that is Jesus Christ, For He is the perfect Law, the good one that we are to become in order to enter the Kingdom of the Father.
DeOTR:
You have to keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus to not receive the mark (Rev.14:12)
Moral law is not the same as ceremonial law
There is no faith of Jesus Christ. There is only the New Covenant and obedience is what is required.

If, you have time, please look into Becoming like a Child, as Jesus Christ Commanded all those who want to enter the Kingdom of Heaven to do. Consider abandoning all that you have been taught about God and all that you think you know of Him.

So
All the examples you stated are from the Bible n certainly unquestionable but the switching of Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday has no biblical basis n that makes it very questionable.

Thanks so much for the insight and in Mark 2:27, Jesus said "the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath". I feel this pretty sums everything up.

@Kobojunkie

Luke 16:17 "...it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one title of the law to fail"
The old covenant has to do with the sacrificial/ceremonial laws. It's the law that governs foods, meats, drinks, sacrifices and holidays. This is the law that was nailed to the cross.
Sin is the transgression of any of the ten commandments (1 John 3:4, James 2:10).
Didn't Jesus observe the sabbath? If He is our Teacher, are we not supposed to follow his steps?
He only said it's ok to do good and save lives on the sabath if the need arise(Mark 3:4). He never changed or abolish the law.
More so, the 10 commandments not part of any other law and wasn't written by Moses.
It was written on stone by God's finger (Ex. 31:18).
It's different from that written by Moses (Deut. 31:9).
James 2:11 quotes parts of the 10 commandments verbatim so you should have no doubt which law been referred to.
And yes, there's faith of Jesus. I didn't write the verse in Rev. 14:12.

The law was not nailed to the cross. Jesus Christ was so as to fulfill the requirement of the Old Covenant law on our behalf, freeing us from the obligation of the law in the process.

As Jesus Christ said, He did not come to abolish that law, as it remains an agreement between God and the people of Israel to this day.

DeOTR:

Sin is the transgression of any of the ten commandments (1 John 3:4, James 2:10).
Sin is the transgression of the Law, not the 10 commandments. Transgression of what law? The law that is over you. When a person who is in Nigeria breaks the law, the person is said to have broken the law as it applies in Nigeria, not the law in Ghana or in France. The law over Nigerians in Nigeria is the law of Nigeria. When the same people move to France, the law over them is no longer the law in Nigeria but the law in France.
When we shift from being under the Old Covenant, to being under the New Covenant, sin is defined as the transgression of the new Covenant and not the Old Covenant.
DeOTR:

Didn't Jesus observe the sabbath? If He is our Teacher, are we not supposed to follow his steps?
Jesus Christ did not observe the Sabbath in the way the Old Covenant teachers expected Him to. That is part reason the issue came up on several occasions.
DeOTR:

He only said it's ok to do good and save lives on the sabath if the need arise(Mark 3:4). He never changed or abolish the law.
His disciples went out sourcing for food too on the Sabbath and the Pharisees called Him to rebuke them for it. Jesus Christ then gave the example of David also doing similar with His men, then He, Jesus Christ, declared that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath, also adding that He was Lord over the Sabbath.
DeOTR:

More so, the 10 commandments not part of any other law and wasn't written by Moses.
It was written on stone by God's finger (Ex. 31:18).
It's different from that written by Moses (Deut. 31:9).
The tablet may have been then, but what we have today is the book of the law of Moses and the 10 commandments which were given as part of the Old covenant which came to the people through Moses.
DeOTR:

James 2:11 quotes parts of the 10 commandments verbatim so you should have no doubt which law been referred to.
James is not Jesus Christ and certainly not the definition of the New Covenant that is the Jesus Christ. God sent His own word to tell us what to obey, it is His word that should matter more to you, since He, Jesus Christ is your only teacher.

DeOTR:

And yes, there's faith of Jesus. I didn't write the verse in Rev. 14:12.
Ensure you read the verses I provided
The book of revelation is not the word of Jesus Christ but the recordings of John, the apostles, dream sequences. I suggest you do not take literally that which is sourced from a dream.
