Halo aus, kindly advise me on this....

I am willing to go into Uber/taxify/bolt and the likes as a driver - delivering actually.

What are the items or documents needed before I can start business ?? Besides drivers licence.

What is the average amount a beginner can realize in a week ??

How much would I be expected to deliver in a week ??

Which car would be best to use for this delivering stuff ??

Can you advise a prospective Uber/taxify driver to go into the business for now ??

Thank you all.

Hi guys, good afternoon.

I have an issue.

I had a ride. It was 2500. I asked the driver if he accepted transfers. He said no problem.

I arrived at my destination, it was late at night, my phone died, I asked him to text me his details and he did. At around 3am, I put on my phone and saw his text, so I transferred 3500 to him cos he tried and then I replied him 3500 sent thanks.

Only for him to start calling me with a very aggressive tone saying why am I doing like this bla bla that he didn't get any money.

I checked my balance, no money reversed yet, I sent him a screenshot of my debited account with his name on it. I wanted to send him another 2500 cos his tone was very aggressive but I just decided to call my bank to know what was happening. They confirmed to me that the transaction was successful on their end and the recipient should confirm with his bank. I sent him the recorded call with the customer care to confirm. He didn't text me again.

Now Uber says I owe 2500 from last trip when I wanted to book today, I tried using their app help but they Only have all those pretexted help. No access to their mail.

Does anybody know their mail or what should I do?

I'm regretting tipping him 1k extra now.

Sincerely, d driver mite not see d alert text. Some drivers don't have their bank app to check balance.

Some credit alert text comes in like 16 hrs later after you hv seen money drop thru d bank app.

Send a screenshot of the transaction to an Uber rep.

But, you also abused d system, it was a cash transaction, so you hv no excuses. Use your card next tym, it's Uber, it's safe.

Sorry about this, tho you have your share of blame, there's nowhere Uber stated payment via transfer, so it will be hard to give you attention. But on the other hand, since you have the debit alert, why not reach out to Uber and clear yourself by showing your prove of payment. No cause for alarm, its just a battle to prove who is on the right side between you and the driver.

I want to tell a story about how Enviroments impact Strategy.

When @UberNigeria came to Nigeria, they had a world class strategy.

There was one flaw in their Strategy, it only worked "Ceteris Paribus".

So one of the strategies was to encourage New riders/Drivers to Sign up.

Lets start with the riders.
Whenever a new person signed up on @Uber they gave a promo code.

Typically this was between 1000, and 3000 naira.

Sounds good right? Just wait.

Nigerians, started multiple signups. So if I wanted to go out, I would create a new account.

Ride free.

When I get there, I would create another and ride back. Also free.

Uber tried their best to mitigate this fraud, tried to limit it phone numbers.

But here in Lagos and Abuja each one of us has 4 lines, even if you don’t.

(New sim 200.
Free ride 2000. Net profit 1800).

So they started locking phones to 3 acccounts per phone. That was just the riders o.

Now to the drivers.

First there was the signup bonus.

Basically everytime you introduced someone to drive on Uber, Uber paid you 40,000 naira.

I am not going to lie this was part of my motivation.

So first and foremost there was the issue where people would sign up and not drive. When you get the money you share them.

Uber now said no problem.

They would only pay after 20 trips .
People would register, drive the Trips, collect the Bonus and Stop Driving.

You also know In Nigeria we had the fleet Option, so I would hire a driver, register him and on every driver, make 40k.

*Now come the Abuja Airport Incentives.*

Part of the plan was to undercut local taxis, so in Abuja, an Airport to Town trip was between 4-5k.

Its been like that for years, Uber came and said we will carry this route for 3500. So to encourage Drivers, Uber now said okay.
If a rider pay you 3500, we will then give you a matching bonus of 3500 making the Trip 7000.

Now wait for Nigerian drivers scam. Beloved,
eye hath not seen, nor ear hath ever heard,
neither had it entered the heart of Uber the kind of Fraud that happened next.

Now you remember the earlier rider fraud?

So a Driver, creates a new Rider = +2000
Requests himself to the airport, Cash trip, 3500 = -1500 get paid =7000.
Round Trip = 14000.

An enterprising Fraudster can do 10 Roundtrips to the Airport in a day.
That's #140,000. Without picking a single person.
How much do you earn from this scam?. Work it out.
Uber tried everything.
From Geofencing the Airport to Not allowing people request from the same spot.
They tried everything but Nigerians always beat through their incentives strategy.

They just had to remove all incentives in Nigeria.

Essentially, what I am saying is one needs a Nigerian strategy to solve a Nigeria problem.

This is how a beautiful strategy that has been tried everywhere else including Ghana failed in Nigeria.

When did you become the PA or PR manager to the quoted person?

I wonder why some of you lack dignity. Someone you are responding on her behalf is right on this thread and can choose to respond or ignore the request completely.

Mister risk analyzer, you seem to know much about international shipping than you know Lagos roads.

Anyway, I have got to find an alternative. You were quick to list the risks but never mentioned the dozens of businesses transpiring between nairaland members even when they have never met each other.

FYI, I had one of my cars paid for in the United States and shipped to Nigeria through a member I met here without knowing him before then.

No option to suggest maybe a verification or something, just an outright condemnation and 1001 reasons why such should never happen.

Please, grow up and stop asslicking. It will help you better

This really makes people want to help you.

They started this nonsense in South Africa and drivers there gave them till today 27th to remove the feature or they will shutdown their operation.

These guys at bolt don’t care about drivers at all.

Meanwhile, in the screenshot below there is a new add on to the App, you deduce from the distance shown whether it’s a long or short trip.

Things are really getting very expensive. From food to transport fare. While Bolt is trying to reduce fare. If they try it I’ll move to Uber full time. Their fare is very low that most riders give tips on top d fare. They should buy cars and put on d road b4 reducing fare. Stupid people!!! They never talk about percentage reduction. There is nothing bad in a little waiting time for request, u can use that time to eat and exercise ur body.
