Lol. The job seeker is not serious. When you pick call , hear the callers reasons first before taking action.

I sell lands and houses. Some are on promos . kindly check my bio

Notwithstanding, the recruiter should have been patient enough to conclude the chat. The applicant though harsh was right to think it's a scammer cause it's getting too much.

The recruiter should have used a different opening line... My name is xyz and a recruiter calling on behalf of Bank so so... Am I on with candidate xyc?

Hello All,

I recently submitted some resumes for an opening in a bank. I was asked for referrals by one of the recruiters, so i source for candidates from LinkedIn and other sources. The recruiter later shared with me his experience with one of the candidate, below is how the conversation went:

Caller (recruiter) : Hello, good day , I am calling from xyz bank, im I onto Mr X?

Mr X (candidate): You want to ask for my BVN abi?, SCAMMERS

Caller (recruiter): We are actually calling for a chat after reviewing your cv

Mr X (candidate): Oh, i actually thought is all this scammers

Caller (recruiter)): ended the call

I hope you can pick some lesson(s) from the conversation, though there are scammers out there, but we should still be careful.

Thanks

Sincerely, I wonder why many Nigerians are quick to label situations scam. This unfortunately isn't a learning point for many as we think we are smarter than we actually are.

Wish you success in the near future.
Maybe you haven't been scammed before or harassed by those parasites constantly. They always claim to be from legitimate companies so they can trick people into giving them money and information.

Whatever happens to listen and don't act is what I don't understand. Life is not hard and requires patience. For those who get scammed, the underlying issue that need be addressed is greed.

It was a scammer. You busted his scam that was why he dropped the call. He just told you that CV job line to make you feel bad - It's called reverse psychology.
A real recruiter won't take offence especially one from a bank knowing the infestation of scammers in the financial sector today.
The way he handled it is even strange, I thought they would have sent an email first so they can talk in person about his potential employment. What kind of company handles these things over the phone?

Anyone of voting age would have been suspicious of such a phone call.

As much as it's good to practice proper phone etiquette, the caller here is simply stupid.

God save you, that guy is a scammer true, true,na why hin bang the call becos hin no know say you ja.
Why will a recruiter as for your BVN,even the other day an online customer care of my bank requested for my BVN ,i just told him "sebi you are an account person, everything should be there on your computer now, check am" ,i reported him later and i was told he didn't need to ask me that professionally.
He called you and even asked you on phone.
No disturb your self no real recruiter will take offense on that.
Many of these bankers are scammers too,if you doubt me call him again and ask him that you will like to visit him one on one so you can give him the Bvn ,he should tell you his naame and address and see wetin hin go talk, had you given him Your BVN,o ti wo oko sobo nuuun

The recruiter actually ended the call because he expected an apology from the candidate.

I see nothing wrong here. The person was just being security Conscious which is what most bank preach for sef. Infact as a recruiter I will see as a plus sef...

The reason why the recruiter hanged up was because he did not apologize even after the explanation

i dont think thats it. The recuiter should know that nigeria has up thier security when it comes to taking calls for customers and i believe most banks send you message on your email which i belive you drop with your cv why resort to calling u

The recruiter should have understood the current age we lived in. Scammers adopt the same strategy. Since the person in question already drew back from the second paragraph, I think the recruiter should have clarified further and proceed with the interview if truly they're giving out the job or they could have adopted other channels such as mail or SMS.
The reason why he didnt proceed was he expected an apology from him

Mr I disagree with you..from the convo, the caller wasnt even professional

Hello, good day , I am calling from xyz bank, im I onto Mr X?

Is that not the call format for scammers asking for bvn?
Read again bro, the caller did not ask for bvn, the candidate was the one that mentioned bvn

Re: Advice For Job Seekers Based On Experience by Nobody: 5:57pm On Jul 28, 2020
shud look at the number, am sure it was a landline, its good to ave an open mind, with covid, I foresee most interviews will be phone based.

Remember to charge your phones cos you can spend up to 30minutes talking.

Well I guess the recruiter was too quick to end the call and was very unprofessional without even addressing his/her name...

Why Nigerians should stop jumping to conclusions. Not everyone wants to scam you.
Scammers are smarter now in case you don't know.

The attitude of those scammers spoilt many things, you don't truely know the next. Though we need to be very careful, at least the candidate should have wait for the conversation to continue. You shouldn't labelled every unknown number as a potential scammers.
