Atigba:I love the way these historical journeyman avoided NRI like a plague. It is the oldest Kingdom in Nigeria, and was the clear cultural leader during the dark ages, recognized as the clan that implanted the Ogisos of Igodomigodo, and carried on issuing ofors to the much later Obas of Benin |

While the rest of the world is busy trying out coronavirus vaccines, Africans are busy relishing medieval times and echoing ethnic jingos. Suppose only blacks are in this world, perhaps we would still be using carmels to travel. Lord why did you even create the black race, knowing full well they would just be counted as part of the billions on the face of the earth? Worst still, why did you let Nigeria be the most populous black nation? Their thinking is just not coherent. |

Atigba:For over 100 years now Eze Nris no longer issue Obas of Benin with the ofor, since the white man started encroaching in our cultural practices, and Benin has been attempting to rid herself of vestiges of NRI influence. NRI overlordship over Igodomigodo was even more encompassing than the NRI overlordship over Benin, but even at that NRI supremacy over Benin was still substantial. Back in the days, if the Nris refuse to recognize any Oba, that oba immediately looses his legitimacy, and the Benin chiefs will then have the authority to start scouting for a new oba.. The Eze NRI didn't just issue the ofor, he issued the prospective Oba of Benin or Attah of Igala with every paraphernalia of office that legitimised his reign, without which, no Oba or Attah can sit on the throne. So even if you talk of Igodomigodo or Benin, both will still need to pay respects to NRI as their overlord Benin kingdom even mentioned the existence of an overlord kingdom to the east of Benin, when Portuguese explorers visited Benin during the reign of Square and Ozolua in the 1400s. These are documented facts. |

OfoIgbo:I repeat, we deals with Ada and Eben as symbol of authority in Igodomigodo not ofor. Nri kingdom was founded in 9 century AD and your people admitted they have no clue where Eri migrated from. Have you asked your self who is Eri? What if he is from Igodomigodo? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Nri |

Atigba:Nri is hundreds of years older than the 9th century that is being ascribed to it. The 9th century of a thing came about because that was when the Igbo-Ukwu archeological findings were placed in that royal grave, so the 9th century you see, is more like the date of the earliest archeological findings that can be ascribed to the Nris. Our elders know that Nri is very ancient, and practically ran all the cultural hustle in Igboland, Benin empire and Igala Kingdom. Please access this website and read about the kingdom to the east of Benin. This was as observed by neutral Portuguese explorers. Halfway into the article, you will start seeing references to the kingdom TO THE EAST OF BENIN KINGDOM http://www.medievalarchives.com/2010/09/25/medieval-cross-influenced-ancient-benin-culture/ Also, just about a hundred years ago, the British colonists asked Eze Nri Obalike to name some of the territories under the Nri influence, he mentioned a few Igbo territories (including Aguleri that is currently trying to falsify Igbo history presently), and he also mentioned Benin, as a territory under the Nri influence. Eze Nri Obalike was definitely not aware of earlier Portuguese explorers that visited Bini in the 1400s, but he still mentioned Bini as a territory under Nri influence. That is why I am telling you that Benin cannot also falsify history as Nri knows the foundations of much of the peoples of southern Nigeria. |

OfoIgbo:Your people said Nri kingdom started in 9 century AD. Stop referring to Benin Kingdom, Igodomigodo predate Benin kingdom and been in existence thousands of thousands of years. Igbo have no Empire, stop propagating fake news. You never had influence beyond your vicinity in the town Nri was situated until recently when some Nri started migrating towards the southern part of Igboland. Due to over population and in search of good farmland.

Atigba:. My people were not the people that told historians that Nri kingdom started in 9 century AD. It was historians and archaeologists that ascribed that date, so my people have been using it. But I am aware of a current move to scrap that date, as we have ample evidence to prove that Nri kingdom started way before that. Of course, I know that Igodomigodo existed before the Benin empire. I am only telling you that the Nris were the cultural supremo even when Igodomigodo was at its height. The Nris were a constant, in the cultural development of both Igodomigodo and Benin empire. Benin and Igala still make use of the Nri-owned 4 market days that every Igbo society still uses, even though they are pronounced slightly differently in these areas, but it is still the same core Nri shrines that gave birth to those names. Ancient Benin obas, will normally be Ozo title holders when they were princes, another cultural title birthed by the Nris. Now, just to school you a little. There was nothing like Nri town just a few decades ago. Nri town is a modern concept. The only Nri blood in the modern Nri town is the Agukwu section of Nri town. The core Nris are these towns, Enugwu-Ukwu, ENugwu-Agidi, Nawfia and Agukwu (which happens to be a part of the modern Nri town, and is the lineage that produces the Eze Nris). The isi ani and most significant sites of the Nris exist, in town that are not within the modern Nri town. They are mainly found in Enugwu-Ukwu, and to a smaller extent, in Nawfia and ENugwu-Agidi. Eze Nri was a the political leader in the 4 core Nri town in ancient times, and also the spiritual/cultural leader of much of Igboland and Benin and Igala. He was somewhat of a pontiff in these territories, that's why the early Portuguese used that description for him, as they saw him as a Papal figure. Unlike Benin and the other empires, Nri did not maintain an army. Nri was against the spilling of blood. They concerned themselves with holiness and peace, which is why you will never hear of Nris intimidating their neighbours or other ethnic groups with weaker military. It was against the Nri code. Nris could have had an Igbo empire that ruled over Benin, Yorubaland and every almajiri kingdom up north, if they were into that sort of behaviour. The general Igbo behaviour is never to intimidate the weak. It is a major part of the Igbo gene. It is frowned upon in Igboland. Nris, being hardcore Igbos, are just like that. Please read this again. It is important for your education http://www.medievalarchives.com/2010/09/25/medieval-cross-influenced-ancient-benin-culture/ Nri ji ofo!!!!!!! |
