Okay
If that rocks your boat

But as for me
My descendants have no business with Nigeria

That is your fathers country of origin
Full stop
Be out there
And be yourselves
I hope we don't see them on NTA in many years time trying to locate their Nigerian ancestry.

Naa..
Not exactly
I've got relatives
It's the internet age/information age
And indeed they will come see where their dad grew up
But that is about it.
Unlike many African dads, there wont be that compulsion to take root

That's the point I'm trying to make

So your snide comment wont be the case
(Who goes to an analogue station to search for his ancestry in a digital age cheesy grin grin tongue)

I see it all the time
African parents trying (and failing woefully in many cases) to forcefully root their kids who were born and spent a good portion of their lives out there
That's my point

I'm not critical of that approach anyways (I try not to, it's a free world)
But it's something I would rather not do.

Godbless you for this..Exactly what I intend doing when I start having kids..They would visit regularly and I will encourage them to own investments in Nigeria as well..

The panacea for this problem, is any one staying abroad is whilst ur kids are growing up once in a while have them come see Nigeria. Let them enjoy when they come back to Nigeria. Do not start telling them Nigeria is a shit hole else them no go wan enter. To me it's an investment.

Do you live outside Nigeria?
If you do, you'll realise that no matter how bad your country is, home is still the best.

On point, I think this is the aspect Ahib is looking at.
I heard somone saying you dont invest and go to sleep, In a good economy that has stable currency you invest and go to sleep without worrying!

You said the aforementioned stocks has been beaten inflation in the past 17ys?

I have been into importation of electronics since 2001 and I can categorically tell you 17yrs ago US Dollar was selling at circa N100 whiie now exchange rate is circa N500.

If you discount forex rate you will see that those investing in NSE are simply doing blind business and getting poorer without knowing it.

No oooo. I think i have seen where the confusion is in the post. It is a punctuation error. The 'here.' was supposed to be 'here,'. Let me correct it in the original post.

Please sir,

I got a bond quote for secondary market this morning. Kindly assist me with implication of the selected item I wish to invest in.

Also what will be the return say with 2.5m. Find attached

Please what is meant by "the bond is discounted" especially as applied to the selected image below. Is it profitable to go ahead with it? The account officer is yet to give me a response.

Even in countries with good economies you don't invest and go to sleep, anything can happen to the asset, Investment, industry, business etc

Well
Everyone has his own understanding to life...
So dont criticise

If that's how he thinks, that's okay
There are also others who take my own position (whom I even know of personally)

At the end, we will do what we think is best

Three things

Even me dont feel at home as such here in Nigeria cheesy
As the foolishness that abound in this space is too toxic for me

Second, I already have a handful of relatives who have taken this stance over the decades and they are not missing anything whatsoever

And my parental upbringing also has a lot to do with how I view life, such as your upbringing also to an extent shape the way you see life

My parents kept our contact to the south eastern state where I hail from as minimal as possible and gave us the free hand to make the choices we want to make
For example
While growing up, I know of my peers who were forced to choose schools in the east so that they can "connect with home" and also "maybe find a spouse while there"
Other methods similar to these also abound, but that was not the case with us, so we cant really relate to the whole "obsession about home "

Even now, decades after, as an adult, that has still stuck with me. Not many of my peers were that lucky to have liberal parenta like myself

That's why I understand the comments some of you make. It's a function of your experience and upbringing

That said, making a permanent move is what I'm working assiduously towards.....
Once my figure hits, na bye bye

That said
I think the experiences we have PLUS the upbringing we had and what we were surrounded with plays no small role in how our perception to life in many dimensions is shaped

Understanding the above is not the strong suit of many Africans tho tongue

This is also like an advice to those of us in cities and build mansions in the village......... u cannot expect to use the proceeds of village rent to live large in lagos

Lol. Who does that? Use proceeds from the 'village', to find your lifestyle in the city when the reverse should be the case?

You will be surprised at how some think

For me, committing MOST of your resources to build a redundant house in the village is not a financially smart thing to do.

Putting structure in place that will generate the cashflow that will in turn finance your project in the village is more like it, and is the financially smart thing to do
But will my people hear?

Bro what part of the western part are u resident in. I just dey ask o. I mean no offence.

Tho like I said before
I get to travel from time to time
But I am still principally based in Nigeria

One thing I promised myself is NOT to be an illegal immigrant anywhere
So overstating a Visa is out of it

I'll rather do things the proper way.
I started out with Express entry but University Of Lagos is still yet to sort out my transcripts (testament of the uselessness of Nigeria) two years runningundecided

So I don lose interest in that one
Was looking forward to processing the UAE 2 year residency visa option
Its something I can readily afford
But then
Some delay and them covid has removed my mind from that side for now

I am also looking towards picking one of those citizenship by investment passports in the Caribbean
Afterall most caribbean countries are black majority countries, and if I am holding the passport, or staying there, I wont look out of place, cos I am in a black majority country
That's the opposite of a black man holding a Chinese passport (if that is even possible)
That will shock anyone

But the wahala is that the citizenship by investment is quite pricey
And naira devaluation is not helping matters either

There residency by investment, then waiting it out for sometime before getting the passport is also on the table and is kinda cheaper
But I dont have much time for that lol.....

And no
I dont take offence
I'm not the typical Nigerian who is hiding his affairs because he is scared of his shadow
I discuss my affairs freely with no fear whatsoever

I think low self esteem also comes to play

Like what I will call the "oyibo complex"
Many Nigerians are unexposed
And have internalised self hate in such a way that they treat foreigners (especially with some pale skin and some money) like gods, and far better than their country men (especially if that country man is from another ethnic group)

Who does not want to enjoy "special treatment "
And to put icing on the cake
The lax laws and the corruption is also there for you to take advantage

That's why many of them are coming here
To benefit from the "oyibo complex"
I wish we will rid our society of that messed up mentality
