Some family members of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, has endorsed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 19 Edo Governorship election.

Igbere TV reports that the endorsement took place on Saturday at a meeting of select prominent members of the Obaseki family with the APC candidate, in Benin City.

Even though their family member, the Governor, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Family said they have chosen to pitch tenth with Ize-Iyamu.

The Obaseki delegation was led by Mr. Osaro and Victor Obaseki on the endorsement visit.

In their words, “Generally, the Obasekis have their own way of doing things.

“The different branches of the Obaseki family, we are supporting our brother, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

“We will do all our campaigns for him fully, without let or hindrance.”

Reacting, the APC candidate said, “Like the Governor’s aides and appointees, members of his family agree that he has failed Edo people and doesn’t deserve re-election.”

“I’m very grateful to them for their courage and selflessness. They have even gone ahead to produce and donate beautiful face caps as a demonstration of their love and support.

“It takes great love for State and the people to make such brave decision to sideline all sentiments and ties and back the better candidate.

“I’m not going to disappoint them and millions of Edo people at home and in the diaspora who, daily, reaffirm their support,” Ize-Iyamu added.

These are just household enemies. Ize Iyamu can now go and lobby Obaseki ancestors as his next strategy...the truth is that in Africa, there are very few families especially extended ones, where everyone works in unity and is happy for each other's progress. Most external enemies of progress do seek to partner with such internal evil family members to cause destruction. Fortunately INEC does not give special premium counts for family members of aspirants and Obaseki now has the good people of Edo as his new large family.
