But the governor should ask himself this question. How does he expect the people to return to their lands and farms and houses when there is a war going on.

Yes, not letting them farm is tightening the vicious cycle of poverty but mixing them up with the insurgents in any one locality will make the war which is an assymetric one much harder.

A battle field is a battle field, you simply donot farm there. Before the UN outlawed the deployment of mines, this munition will have ensured territories are rendered uninhabitable by all sides, at least containing insurgent attacks and ensuring phyrric victories.

But now the military has to seperate oil from water, salt from sugar, civilian from combatant in this war. That is extremely hard. Not saying there might be no saboteurs within but where civilians are in too close a contact with military forces at the front lines, troop movements, deployments, weapons intel, training and tactics are all in full view to all and you don't need great sleuth to counter these.

Mr Zulum, your state is like a battlefield in the bedroom. If Boko Haram wants to take you out all they need is long range artillery or medium range rocket batteries which they are well capable of acquiring and they will level goverment house in an instant. They are not after you. You were just a target of opportunity that fateful day.

But you have your primary role in winning hearts and minds to make the military's job much easier. Just do that and stop sniping at the military. Their job is next to impossible and I have said it many, many times, this insurgency ultimately cannot be won by force of arms alone.

It is fundamentalist driven and needs to be 'moderately' untangled. Hearts and minds is the key.

Isn't it clear that some elements in the military and Boko Haram have the same agenda?

Why else would someone prioritise ownership of a farm over ending the insurgency unless they knew they would be safe from attacks?

It has been said for the past 11 years that Boko Haram has had sympathisers in the military providing them weapons and information. What governor Zulum is witnessing is the groundwork for the establishment of their caliphate.

When they make these kind of statements you know the idiot is just trying to be politically correct. Say the truth! In the beginning, BH was very strong because they were a new thing in the country and many people doubted their prowess. However the NA fought back valiantly against them. Don't forget that within the time frame of 2011-2015 the FG found it difficult to get logistics to combat BH. US wouldn't sell arms because of "genocide" being peddled by Northern elements and endorsed by AI. They botched the covert SA arms deal, Israeli arms deal etc.
They politicised the whole BH thing just to make GEJ look weak and insecure. I even remember some politicians saying state of emergency in Borno then was undemocratic. In all honesty the army then were better the ones now we having BH. How many videos of soldiers did we see complaining on the battlefront during GEJ tenure? I even remember Ihejirika killing most of these terrorists but the same hausa politicians said he was killing innocent people and pressured GEJ to remove him.

Gov. Babagana Zulum's worries and inferences sound genuine enough. National Security Adviser Mohammed Babagana Monguno (a retired general) is from Borno State.
Chief of Army Staff General Tukur Yusuf Buratai is from Borno State. Why are they not desperately working to finish off this war is a mystery. Majority of Boko Haram foot soldiers and informants are from communities across Bornu State. Why would they work with a group of people that kill and displace their fellow Bornu citizens is a mystery. How did Boko Haram got to know of governor's movement before carrying out recent attack on his convoy? Borno people are the greatest problem of Bornu State as far as Boko Haram attacks are concerned.

The first place to start is for President Buhari to sack the security chiefs and seize their passports pending probe of how this war has been prosecuted so far.

Buhari, will probably promote the security chiefs and name a rail station after them. I have never come across a government this bad.
