A little girl with blue eyes has allegedly been rejected by her father because of her eye colour, it has been claimed.

Alabi Rukayat Oyindamola shared the girl's story on Facebook. She explained that she met the girl's family when she travelled to Ilorin for the Eid break. She further claimed that the father rejected the girl and her late sister because of their blue eyes.

Sharing photos of the girl, she wrote: "Hello! I traveled to ilorin this Eid period and I saw this small girl she lives around my house(ilorin). Her name is Kaosara she is 8years of age, she is an indigen, she also has a junior sister Hassanat (kehinde). her taiwo is late due to lack of proper care and and rejection from the father because she has special qualities(her blue eyes). Her mother's name is Risiqot."

That man is ignorant. Maybe even illiterate.

Blue eyes didn't come naturally to humans but through a gene mutation in a single ancestor of humans. This genetic mutation occurred thousands of years ago( 60,000-20,000 years).

All beings with blue eyes today are related to that single(genesis)ancestor. The colour is rare for black people though being very recessive compared to the predominant dark brown, brown black eyes of Africans. Even more rare for black folks are green eyes or blue-greens.

I have seen bright brown eyes in easterners and some westerners in nigeria but these are fewer to the dominant dark browns.

The blue-eye gene is more common in blacks than we think but being recessive, it stays hidden till its accumulated strength is powerful enough to dominate the black/browns. More likely the dad who rejected her has some of the blue-recessives in his genes which might even be higher than that of the girl's mother, to make such colours come out. Additional evidence comes from the eye colours of her siblings, which are also blue.

The man's family is very lucky to have such variety/diversity in their gene.

God! Seeing things like this in this age that we are beats me. This is Why this part of our world is still underdeveloped... Everything has to do with witches/wizards or ill luck. Illiteracy is truly a disease!!
Considering we're Africans, those girls posses "Special Gifts" and a very "Rare Feature".. Does that man know people undergo expensive cosmetic eye surgery just to change their eye colour to blue or green? Damn! These girls are beautiful and should be protected.
