A Speechless But Sincere Sinner's Prayer

It appears many think it's impossible to say a sinner's prayer that acceptable to God without uttering it with the mouth and lips, but the instance of the woman with the alabaster box in Bible shows that's not necessarily true.

Luke 7:37-38, 48, 50

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

So the sinner in the above passage said her sinner's prayer with no words coming out of her lips and mouth but just her heart, but it was a sincere sinner, hence Jesus immediately acknowledging it to show that it had been approved of by God in heaven.

This proves that a sinner's prayer doesn't need to be uttered by one's lips and mouth to be accepted by God, but it must be sincere and come from the heart. Once that happens, it gets heaven's seal of approval.

Some may say but it written in the bible "with the mouth confession is made unto salvation", but this instance proves that's the input of man not God, because God doesn't need the confession of the mouth to hear a sinner's prayer since He could hear the confession of the heart. It's man that needs that.

Moreover God cannot say that salvation requires confession from man's mouth, knowing fully well that it would deprive those who can't speak with their mouth (the dumb) the right to salvation which He made available to all those who are willing to receive it. Hence why God requires just the confession of the heart, because that makes it possible for every single human being to be saved.

But because many still believe that confession must be made with the mouth of a sinner because the person can be saved, they're eager to get sinners to make confession with their mouths unto salvation by telling them to repeat a well crafted prayer after them. And there's nothing wrong with that if such a confession was made from the bottom of the sinner's heart.

However I opine that a sinner's prayer is better said devoid of any external input and rather spontaneous, because I believe it's crucial how one begins his salvation journey, as that sets the tone for the rest of the way. So if someone is able to have that one on One conversation with God without having to depend on someone else, it would be easier to continue on that path.

Perhaps that would help reduce the rate at which people depend on those they call "men of God", to the extent that they'd go contrary to God's instructions to observe theirs.

Moreover it can be very misleading because I can't remember how many times I came out for alter calls and repeated such prayers with my mouth even though I didn't mean it from my heart. But those who saw me come out and made such confession with my mouth, may have believed a soul had been saved, even though in heaven there was no record of such a thing because it wasn't true.

But the day I said the sinner's prayer with my heart, it was in a Christian meeting but I didn't even come out or repeat any such words, so it would be hard for any one there to have known what had taken place there except I told the person. But heaven bore witness that a new soul had been saved, because it was genuine and came from my heart, and this is close to twenty years now since that day my name was written in the book of Life.

So I believe a sinner's prayer is better said spontaneously like in the instance of the woman with the alabaster box, who could utter no words with her mouth but just weeping, because it's hard a times to compose one's self and say anything when one comes to the realization of the Truth.

Hence a sinner's prayer could be speechless like hers, or it could be like that sinner who felt unworthy to look up to heaven but could just say, "Lord have mercy on me a sinner" that Jesus said was more justified than the Pharisee whose utterances were more composed and premeditated. Luke 18:10-14

It could like that of Zacchaeus who said, "half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold", unto whom Jesus said "this day salvation is come until this house". Luke 19:8-9

Or it could like the case of a man called Jim, who sinner's prayer was, "Jesus, it's Jim." And when Jim was incurably sick to the point of death and needed divine help, Jesus said, "Jim, it's Jesus."

As long as it comes from the heart, that's all God requires for sinner's prayer to be accepted by Him, and for the name of the sinner to be written in the book of Life.

God bless Nigeria

So if you're a sinner who truly wants to repent and return to your Creator, you don't have to repeat any words after me, but from your heart you can talk to God in a way that's unique to you and Him. That's all you need to saved and for your name to be written in the book of Life.

The Bible account of Genesis says Jacob wrestled with the angel.

Little do we know that he was crying and praying along.

Hosea 12:4 (KJV) Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

The woman in question may have been supplicating even before that encounter and the depth of her penitence could have left her heavy-hearted and speechless thereafter.

Remember that Hannah prayed to the point she became speechless.
You can't just conclude that the woman you're referring to wasn't praying while she made the other gestures.

I wonder why you people are not afraid to take away from the scriptures.
If we fear God, we won't easily opine inferred thoughts as His holy will.

I wonder why you people would not be afraid to posit the thought of man as that of God. If you really feared God you wouldn't dare do such a thing. Otherwise you'd tell me how the dumb and those without mouths pray with their mouths to God? Or are you saying that they can't pray to God and can't be saved?

As for the woman, you're not even sure if she prayed with her mouth but regardless Jesus said she was saved. From the reasons Jesus gave which led to her salvation, none had to do with what she said with her mouth.

God doesn't follow the rules of men, it's men that ought to follow His.

what of those that have surrendered to Christ but still fall occasionally to a particular sin? help with scriptures for such situations.
Re: A Speechless But Sincere Sinner's Prayer by Nobody: 10:37am On Aug 06, 2020
She actually repented by her actions as true repentance means a godly sorrow and FEELINGS of sorry for our sinful ways. Which was what she exhibited there. So its not just mere words devoid of any feelings of remorse.

Everyone needs to come to that realization and only on that bases can God forgive you of your sins.

Shalom.

Here's what the Bible says.

Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV) For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.

Once you're in Christ, you can only get better if you yield yourself to the spirit of God for sanctification to take place.

Dealing with a particular sin requires the Holy spirit but you need to call on him and complain to him about that weakness. Trust me, he'll help you. Been there, done that likewise every born again child of God. We are all a work in progress.

Just yield yourself and do as the spirit tells/leads you. You'll soon overcome that habit as time goes on.

Shalom.

Since I'm not as sure as you, why don't you just leave God's word the way it is? Why try to abrogate a clear scripture with one surrounded by haziness?

You mean leave man's word as it is? Obviously you had no answer to my question to prove it's man's word not God. That you're not sure doesn't include me, for what you're claim to be surrounded by haziness is clear to me, but what you claimed to be a clear scripture is clearly not of God in my opinion, because God wouldn't say He "so loved the whole world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life," and later say "if they confess with their mouth they shall be saved", because believing in Him only requires the heart.

Man adding "confessing with the mouth" to what God said, has only succeeded in depriving some men (the world) that God so loved and gave His only His begotten Son to save, of the gift of salvation that God gave, and that's what you do whenever you posit that saying of men as the Word of God.

If you can't prove how the dumb or the mouthless can confess with their mouth unto salvation, then you've hence proven you have no case.

Even if one was truly saved and no longer a sinner it doesn't necessarily mean that the person will never fall into sin even though it's possible. The major difference now is that sinning would no longer be a lifestyle and the norm but an exception, that's if that happens at all. And this can be drawn from the lives of those who've walked with God at the highest level of faith in times past.

Jesus who never sinned despite being subjected to many temptations gave us a clue into how He was able to achieve that feat when He said,
"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matthew 26:41

So one of the ways He was able to overcome temptations was by praying, for prayer gives the spirit which is willing more power and control over the flesh which is weak.

Another thing He did to overcome temptations was to fast, as He also said while observing a fast, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4

So any who does likewise would be able to achieve same results.

Have a blessed day.

Paul you know, Jesus you don't know, that's why you'd make the saying of Jesus concerning salvation to be of none effect with that saying of Paul. If you truly know Jesus show me where He also made the confession of the mouth a requirement for salvation. I don't mind being an NL deceiver to you if that's what it means to posit the saying of Paul which clearly contradicts that of Jesus, as that of man and not God.

Sure she repented, but is there any record of her being among those who got born again?

Repentance is what John the baptist taught the people. However, Jesus Christ preached both repentance and the actual Salvation of man(rebirth through the Spirit of God). Many Jews came to repentance and were baptized by John but did they all eventually become born again after Jesus Christ arrived on the scene?
A case to look at is the case with Apollo. He repented and even knew of Jesus Christ but he was not born again. Not until after Priscilla and Aquilla led him ,Apollo, through what he needed to do in order for that to happen.

Lol! I asked for where Jesus Himself who paid the ultimate price for mankind's salvation said man needs to confess with your mouth to be saved, instead of doing that here you are showing me what Peter one of his disciple said about Paul. Okay here what Paul said about the same Peter who said this about him:

Galatians 2:11-14
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

So tell me if both of their words and actions were inspired by the Spirit of God on that occasion when they disagreed? That should show the error in positing every word they said or action they took as inspired of God's Spirit. God's Spirit cannot disagree with Himself... Only humans can.

Hm.. So her name should have been written among those who were saved before you can believe she was truly saved?? What about several others who got saved but were not recorded. How will you even know whether or not they were recorded?

Repentance and salvation go hand in hand. You can't separate them. And Jesus confirmed her salvation by telling her her since are forgiven.

Not about her name... just something to ponder. Not all those who come to the point of repentance make it all the way through to the other side is all.

Consider this, Jesus preached to at least 5000(the largest number of peopleo He fed after preaching to that we know of) people during His time on earth, but as at the time of His death, how many followers did Jesus Christ have? Only a handful, even after considering the hundreds that John the Baptist before Him bapstized on to repentance.

Your sins are forgiven you is the result of repentance.

I am afraid you have to separate them. Even John the Baptist, and so did Jesus Christ. Repentance is acknowledging the need for Salvation. Salvation, on the other hand, requires full commitment and acceptance of the cost.

I remind you of the story of the rich young man who asked Jesus Christ what else he needed to do in order to enter the Kingdom of God. The man had obviously REPENTED, and was working His way in obedience to becoming Saved. But when Jesus pointed out the one last thing he, the rich young man, had left to cross off his left, the man backed away from being saved/ becoming a follower of Jesus Christ.

When it has to do with truth, truth has only one meaning, exactly one meaning. We don't each get our own 'special interpretation' of truth... If truth has more than one meaning, it seizes to be truth, and becomes yet another lie.
