Why Igbos Won’t Have Exclusive Right To Presidency In 2023 – Junaid Mohammed by bolaayenimo: 9:35am On Aug 06, 2020
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Junaid Mohammed, elder statesman and Second Republic lawmaker, has faulted the claim by another elder Statesman and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, that other Nigerians should drop their presidential ambition and allow the Igbos exclusive right to the Presidency in 2023.

Clark in a statement last weekend had said it was uncalled for and hypocritical for Northern politicians to argue that there was no rotation of power between North and South, as President Muhammdu Buhari presently serving his second term if office, rode to power in 2015 based on the arrangement.

He also asked Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to forgo his rumoured presidential ambition, saying, it was the turn of the South-East zone to produce the next president in 2023.

However, speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Junaid who described the principle of zoning as a tragedy for Nigeria, said it is unfair for an elder like Chief Clark to be advocating that other Nigerians should be barred from aspiring for the highest office in the land in a democracy.

“Clark should tell us how he came about that. Who told him that and where did he learn his own politics? On what basis is the 2023 presidency their turn? If he says it is their turn, when will Ijaws have their turn? They forget that the Igbos were there when Goodluck Jonathan was handpicked by Obasanjo and made the president.

Is E.K Clark a special prophet of God to know that it is their turn? By the way, if he is saying nobody should contest the election except the Igbos, how come when the election was contested by other people in the past, he did not make any comment? Some of these politicians in this country are such a disgraceful lot. They have no respect for truth and they seem to forget history.

“This is not NDDC we are discussing here, we are talking of presidency from 1999 till date. If you say nobody should contest except the Igbos, when people come out to contest, let him go and tell INEC not to register them or he should go and unleash the terrorists in the Niger Delta to go and shoot everybody who dare to contest or go and join IPOB to start threatening people”.

He also said it will be difficult for other political parties to support Igbos in 2023 as they themselves did not support others in previous elections.

When the Igbos are expecting to have unchallenged race among themselves, how come in previous elections, they did not vote for other parties? They didn’t vote for PDP and they never voted for APC . And now they expect that somebody will now come and vote for them . if you want peoples support, you should also support them.

“But if you don’t support people and you think you can blackmail them into supporting you, let’s see how they will fare. Afterall, EK Clark, Ohanaeze and others are now threatening to sue Buhari , let them go to court and see what happens. Let’s see who will deny those who don’t want Igbo presidency the right to vote.”

A bigot can never rule. No country can stay independent of others. Kanu's hatred for others won't let him have good relations with others. He is a mess

This man has spoken the minds of the Northern elites.... I will keep saying it times without number that the Igbos didn't play their political chess smartly.... I guess the vendetta that the North has with the Igbos is the death of Tafawa Balewa... They hold that man with high esteem even till this day.... They still mourn him.... They also have this premonition that you can't clip the wings of an Igbo President cause he will be very unpredictable and erratic.... Anything can happen to them, that's the sincere fear they have.... My advice for the Igbos: Stop Biafra crusade and pursue Presidency.... You will get it if you ball very intelligently....

Junaid Mohammed is right though ..

In 2003, despite the PDP retaining the Presidential ticket in the SW, with ex President Obasanjo enjoying the right of first refusal, late Abubakar Rimi, ex Kano State governor, contested the primaries against him.

It was during Obj's declaration he came up with the rhythm:

"I have decided, to serve Nigeria

I have decided, to serve Nigeria

I have decided, to serve Nigeria

No turning back, no turning back"

grin grin grin

Nobody is scared of the Igbos. Igbos didn't build bridges but they want to use the ones others build to cross the sea. It would have been possible if they play their game right but they haven't. They have even resorted to blackmail because they would never love to stoop to get what they want.
Even in the advance country, you campaign, beg, cajole and make promises to get the numbers behind you but here, you're creating enemity while at the same time, demanding for support. Who does that? That's akin to telling the people they are dumb and shattered that you can control them into submission. Thta's not who the Yorubas are and I'm sure that's not whom the Northerners are.
You can always punched your SS

The same Junaid that once threatened yorubas that they will never allow them take back Kwara from the Fulanis and made them cry like babies some years ago. grin

He is now a hero to yorubas because of his anti-Igbo sentiments. grin

Whatever happens, I'm very much sure yoruba won't be president in 2023, even if it means making the neccesary sacrifices.

Their vulturistic appetite to always reap from another man's misfortunes will be properly tamed in 2023. grin

Presence in the party is not enough. The people of Scotland cannot be badmouthing the people of England or even London and expect the support of the English for their candidates. It's paramount to be in a political party to get a chance but the major necessity is the support of others which is mainly bought through appeal.
Even Trump has to shelve the continuation of the construction of the border wall because of the unpopularity of support and has even being crying out about being not liked for his personality; a trait that may cost him the election because event is sowing he's losing supprot by the day and election's around the corner.

Simple.. they know how erratic they could be and the tendency to act foolishly before thinking.

History is there to tell us how Igbos act before giving a deep thought to the likely consequences of their action
