I just got a hint of a vacancy for post NYSC doctor who wants to do MSC in any of the pre clinical courses and with full employment included to lecture at a state university. Though I have not tot much about teaching line. I want to know what you guys think about doctors entering into the academic field, Especially the advantage of a medical doctor being a lecturer

Hello, I need information on how to practice as a doctor in the USA. My husband is a consultant cardiologist and he has a US green card. Is there any pathway for fellows to take other than the usmle and residency? And also can anyone give suggestions on jobs that can be done pending USMLE. Thanks

It's not worth it, I'm writing from experience. If you can find another clinical job, better for you, unless you want to combine lecturing with private practice. Being a full time lecturer in Nigeria is a No No.

like someone said above, your passion for it maters the most.
i know people who had started with me after 1st degree and just couldnt continue, However I there are even older guys who scaled through.
Their challenges were mostly financial pressures, stress, distractions.. and some very foolish thoughts like when you younger brother's mate percusses you on the round, or that your rate of assimilation is lower because of age, dont ever fall for that, just be humble.
You will have to be able to answer the question "why am I here? almost everyday and your answer must be definite and focused, which all boils down to purpose and passion.
Above all, having a good plan will help you, with your maturity you can well thrive under these forces, eat well, read well, sleep (when you can), and pray that the odds will always be in your favour.
I hope you chase your passion and purpose. Good luck.

I have info on how to get a doctor job in Saudi, don't know about any other gulf country (but I'd like to if anyone can help).

So, for Saudi - the Ministry of Health (MOH) sends representatives to Nigeria at least twice each year to recruit. Whenever they come they work via recruitment agencies and conduct interviews in Lagos and Abuja. They were just here in March but should be returning in a few months time, not sure when though. Interviews were conducted in Lagos on 19th/20th via Onyva concepts and 21st/22nd via Successlink, as well as in Abuja on 24th/25th via BHP global.

Sorry if this is coming in late. Pertaining to your question, the US does not in any way see degrees gotten after MBBS as worthwhile.
No matter your husband's level of practice, he'll be required to take and pass the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 2 CS, and Step 3. Asides that, i don't think there's any other way.

I dont think so ,o level ends after admission ,instead work towards getting distinctions in courses like anatomy and surgery and the rest ,that's what counts after graduation.

You should totally go for it if that's what you want. I had quite a number of classmates that were in their 40s in medical school and one close friends of mine was 30 when we started.

I am considering studying for another bachelor's degree in Dentistry. I would be applying for DMD programs in Europe, most likely, Romania, Hungary or similar EU countries due to Degree recognition in other EU/Western/Nothern European countries.

I was initially interested in medical school and pursuing a Plastic Surgery Residency. But I don't really like medicine. I don't want to practice as a General Practitioner and the odour from the Vaginas of the average ~Nigeria~ girl (read girls ) would make anything OnG related hard for me. More over, everywhere I look, Getting into a Plastic Surgery Residency is very hard. If I don't get a spot, I am sure I won't enjoy medicine.

I choose dentistry after carefully researching the field. I wouldn't mind practising as a General dentist, but I would prefer specializing. I tried research the Residency requirement for ORAL AND MAXILLOFAXIAL SURGERY in Nigeria and I could not get any information.

Could someone please help?? Do I need just a Dental degree to become an omfs in Nigeria as it is done in Northern Europe and in some US programs??

Or would I also need a medical + dental degree like in the UK and everywhere else.

In concrete terms, there's actually no advantage, except for bragging rights.
Occasionally, a hospital may request for holders of fellowship of a particular one just for accreditation purposes.
It's only one hospital in the east that has ever requested for holders of fellowship of both colleges.
But that too, was for accreditation purpose.
These days that people are eager to travel out, I don't see any need for going for both.
And, if you decide to go for one, choose West Africa.

I don't have the qualifications yet but I am a highly ambitious guy with plans in place and I have been thinking about UK PLAB route after reading this whole thread from 1 - 62 and several Google searches and I would really like to go there when I finish medical school. But my problem is this:
Based on what bosses here have said and even people quora too, as a Nigerian Doctor going to UK, getting a residency placement is hardddd. Very harrdd and I have come to understand that many won't get it and it will probably be best to have Plan B. I understand with GMC license, I can work and earn decently even as a locum as you guys have said but can one do this for life? What are the positions open to one or options if one doesn't get into residency. Non training Doctors in UK, apart from making money, what have you guys been doing or plan on doing for career furthering? Also, is residency a must to make it in medicine abroad? I want residency but I want to have solid Plan B in case I don't get in as this doesn't depend on me but on UK itself. I would have gone for USMLE but I can't make money without getting matched into residency and I will be sponsoring myself. Just chip in what you think. Sorry this is long. I am still learning to squeeze few points into smaller space.

No vex, like I said, I am usually overly curious. I am just getting ready to enter med school but I am just used to thinking ahead for my goals in life. I asked this to satisfy my curiosity as I always known about UK and plab long before I even decided to write exam for med school. This is just for me to set myself on a path and know what is waiting on ground for me.
