I remember when I was in the university. we went to bury an Igbo girl of 22 in her village; she wqs involved in a ghastly motor accident.

It was appealing to see people getting drunk after the burial as if they were celebrating.

That culture is not excusable. It is a rotten culture.

You should morn the passing away of someone so young and not be celebrating.
Oga don't generalize ..there are drunks everwhere who would drink once there is free drinks

U are just looking for excuse to abuse igbos ....

Of all the foolishness displayed in human existence, waste of resources on expensive caskets takes the crown.

I don't know if anyone has had discussion with God and was duly informed that the quality of casket plays any role in how the corpse will rest.

Or did anyone see it either in the Bible or Quran that caskets can provide any relief to a buried corpse?

34m can get a decent well furnished apartment in some cities in Nigeria for God's sake. angry

What I know is that carcasses get devoured in few months after burial. Infact, 2 years from burial, the grave can only be identified but everything go don become sand sand. undecided

I support your submission......

I mean the family members were drinking heavily after burying a 23 year old who died in a ghastly motor accident.

What kind of cursed, rotten culture is that?!

Dance for the dead? Dance for someone who perished in a ghastly motor accident?

Should you be dancing or mourning? What kind of absurd culture is that?

Where is it written that the casket cost N34 m? Where is the source?
And who said it's an Igbo cultural thing to always waste money during burials.

Everywhere in the world, there is always a minimal cost to do burial depending on your capacity. You can't force a wealthy family not to spend lavishly in honour of their dead benefactor. You can do it differently if you're in their position but you can't force them not to.

The best you can do is celebrate a life well-lived, but not ostentatiously. Most Africans, Christians and traditionalists believe they are going to rise up again when they have all turned to dust and ashes, have another chance to suffer again in flesh and see their dead relatives. And that is the concept of reincarnation.

Life well spent?! A woman of 23 cut down in her prime with dreams chattered and you are celebrating?

Parents wasted money on her education with nothing to show for it and the next thing is celebration?

Even if it is a baby that died, you people will still celebrate. Has the baby also lived a live well spent?

Maybe that's another sign that Igbos hate one another. You are only looking to profit from one another's death, pain and agony. What a shame!

resurrection is different from reincarnation. resurrection is biblical while reincarnation is not. there is no point in wasting money during burial. it is a bad culture.

Celebrating the dead is not bad Oga ... especially one that has really contributed to development of his place...tonimas was worth at least 100 billion that's me being conservative ...so spending 200 million on his last celebration is not too bad sir

You are supposed to be educated.

Stop believing just anything you hear about people without evidence.

It will make you look very stupid and dumb. It will make your education look useless and meaningless
