The club should have had the foresight to trim that team of slacking players at least 2 seasons ago... If they had even started bringing through academy quality, it would have made more sense. Players improve players by example... This is a football fact.
If you are asking the above questions then you either haven't been watching La Liga in the last 2 seasons, or you just don't see Barca games.

Take a look at Real Madrid since Zidane returned (before and currently), and understand that Barca should have toed that very same path at least 2 seasons ago.
