The airport is about 23km south east to Awka, and probably about 27km south west to Onitsha |

I hope the state gov’t is planning ahead and has made provisions and acquired right-of-way for a rail service that will terminate at the int’l airport? If not, it’s not too late to add it to the plan. They could construct the train/bus terminus a little distance from the main terminal and then create a underground tunnel equipped with travelators to link it with the airport! |

Anambra State government should declare an urban renewal program to upgrade Nnewi township roads. Neewi has remained the only city in the state where the township roads have had little or no improvement for more than 20 years. You always hear about how rich the city is, in reality the sight of the roads and environment depicts something else. I am begging the Anambra state government to come to the aid of Nnewi roads they way they did roads in fegge, Aguleri, Awka and other urban areas of the state. The state of Nnewi roads has continued to be a total disgrace to Anambra state government. Please something should be done. Nnewi people should also take politics seriously and aspire to rule Anambra state to develop the city. It appears Anambra governors are content with treating Nnewi as a rural town rather than the urban cosmopolitan city it has become. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J13QT2n_XBY&t=511s Observe in the video below (From 4:16 to 4:48) that Aguleri no longer has untarred roads. Meanwhile, Nnewi has been left in the same rot it experienced under Peter Obi (because of his hatred for Dame Etiaba) till date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKDjUmknK28 |

ChimaAdeoye:Wow, Nnewi town needs total cleaning up. Everywhere is filthy and chaotic. There is no quality life there for the traders. Anambra government needs to decongest the town. They should open new market hub for every products outside Nnewi and clean up the town, build more recreation parks and green areas. Finally the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital at Nnewi should be moved to it's permanent site without delay. |

AmericanQuarter:Maersk is now running Onne Port in Rivers state, so now they have connected Onitsha to their vessel network for ship berth. |

https://theeagleonline.com.ng/fg-completes-baro-inland-water-port-ready-for-inauguration-in-august-md/ By Taiye Elebiyo-Edeni Alhaji Danladi Ibrahim, Acting Managing Director, Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), said on Wednesday that the Baro Inland water port has been completed and ready for inauguration in August. Ibrahim said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. According to him, all cargo equipment needed for the Baro port to commence operation are being installed and the concession of the Onitsha port will also be concluded. “Baro port has been completed, the cargo handling the equipment is being installed right now. “It is expected that by next month the port will be ready for commissioning while the concession of the Onitsha port will also be concluded. “Any moment from now, the concessionaire will take over the Onitsha port. “The work on Baro port has been on for more than three years now and when completed, it will create close to two million jobs. “The port is the anchor of North West, North Central transportation and the port is linked to railway where cargo can be moved. “Onitsha port will serve the South East Nigeria; in fact, Onitsha port will be the most viable port as over 60 per cent of cargo in Nigeria goes to Onitsha, so it is going to be a very busy port,” Ibrahim said. He, however, said that Onitsha port would be concession based on government policy, that the private sector should be the operator while government will provide the infrastructure. NAN reports that Baro Inland Water Port is located at Baro, Agaie Local Government, Niger State Credit horsepower102 |

I think i’m more confident about the realisation of the airport project than this FULL utilisation of the Onitsha port for importation and clearing of containers and other imports! Anything we set our mind to achieving on our own without federal financial and logistical input, we normally see to the end! But when it comes to projects, initiatives and procedures that depends on...or is controlled by Abuja (with its attendant badbelle and ethno-religious sentiment), more often than not it ends in a still-birth or can drag on for decades! Let’s see how this one goes! |

| Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by rdokoye: 4:22pm On Aug 19, 2020 |
asha80:Yea, but the report on concessioning of the port is from 3 months ago. The coronavirus delayed the process. The birthing of the largest vessel in Onne port was a few days ago, along with the news on using barges to send containers to Onitsha port. I'm not sure whether the conessioning process has been completed, but it looks like it has or is in its final stages. |

PROUDIGBO:Northern Nigeria needs Onitsha port, just as much as the SE. So this one is to our advantage. |

FG to move cargo by barges to Onitsha Heads of maritime agencies in Nigeria have agreed to work on modalities for the movement of cargo by barges from Lagos ports to Onitsha, in Anambra state so as to ease traffic in Apapa. Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, disclosed this at a recent meeting of all heads of maritime agencies in Lagos Jamoh said the meeting constituted a committee to produce a work plan for the 24-hour port system, and agreed to carry communities around the port environments along in order to ensure safe operations within the port vicinities and beyond. We also agreed to work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on how movement of cargoes from the ports can be done by rail to reduce the pressure on our roads. “Our focus is also to ensure containers are moved by barges to dry ports outside the port environments. All these would help in the efficiency and effectiveness of our ports.” Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman, also emphasised the need for an intermodal transport system in and around the port environments. Usman said Nigeria must prioritise intermodal transportation to reap the benefits of shipping and port activities. She said the heads of maritime agencies agreed to work with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to facilitate movement of cargo from the ports by rail. Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Dr. George Moghalu, said safety formed a major part of the discussion. https://dailytrust.com/fg-to-move-cargo-by-barges-to-onitsha

ANSMEDIA:Well that is a welcome development but very risky due to the long distance. Wat insurance covers the Cargo, if it capsize? I think it is best for the Cargo to head to Onitsha fro Eastern ports via Barges. i.e. Onne, Akwa Ibom, Calabar, Warri and potentially another port in Bonny. Lagos should be by rail or road but rail is the most reliable and safest, due to the distance. |

Anambra state Government in the person of Governor Obiano should pls with all do respect dualize nkisi 3-3 road...is very important.... Construct fly over at regina junction Awka....am not talking of oba nnewi road which was supposed to be dualized...God we need Governor who will dualize major roads in our state...this is very bad....let our Government work basically on roads dualizing for future development and modern road network... Gush...is paining me a lot.. For instance Awka zik avenue dual road supposed to extend to enugu ukwu agulu etc..look at nnewi with all her potentials does not HV one major dual lane to access the city...what is the government of Anambra state waiting for??why not dualize oba nnewi old road to okija since is one if the major roads to access nnewi easily...what will it take Anambra state government to expand the road to dual lane which will also favour oba...(Anambra state Government dont hv to wait for federal government to dualiz this two roads as follows ,,(1)Oba nnewi old road to Okija.....(2)..Oba ..nnewi okigwe road..because they are major roads to access the third city in the state...this is very bad and failure to state Government... Dualize and expand our major roads.... God pls give us someone that will work basically on roads dualizing... |
| Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Nobody: 1:39am On Aug 20, 2020 |
ANSG have poor planning. Imagine if driving to Lagos was on one lane road. Fact is they have failed to build high capacity STATE roads befitting of an urbanized state and instead build local village roads everywhere. Just consider that old Enugu Onitsha road between Onitsha and Awka sees over 50,000 vehicles per day and over 400,000 at xmas periods when people come HOME. ANSG have let people, markets convert what was originally a dual road into a one lane road. Even a police station in Awka actually blocks part of the road and government sits at Agu Awka doing nothing. Is this the legacy they will leave their children? Primitive village planning? The state government needs to put effort into transportation networks. Relocate markets away from major roads, enforce right of way. Start regulating vehicles in cities. Build proper bus stops, plan to replace the annoying Keke with larger capacity busses. gariepinus: |

Useless frustrated vagabond, even at 2am when sane people are sleeping this cursed fellow was on this thread.. Always spewing nonsense and rubbish, your input is not needed here. Get lost with any idea you have because it's not needed. Anambra is moving forward and in the right direction in infrastructure, education, agriculture, good roads, bridges etc. Anambra has the best road networks at least in the SE region. Anambra leads in all sphere of development. [s] mktinsight:[/s] |
