Read comments on the first, second and third pages and couldn't find anyone who truly understands the ramifications of the new Law, neither do they its importance.

I was disappointed seeing how little Nigerians understand what is going on with these bodies until I saw your comment.

I can't speak for Mosques, but I know for a fact politicians launder millions through churches and NGOs. Some politicians come together to even raise a "pastor", build a church for him, and then "grow" the financial base of the church (laundering their monies) while paying the GOs certain percentages.

The story is the same with NGOs but a bit less opaque than what obtains in churches. Even Muslim politicians launder monies in churches!

Nigerians are really ignorant of the things happening out there and it pains me so much.

To be honest with you the level of ignorance some Nigerians are displaying regarding some very basic issues is really embarrassing and scary.

na compare your tithe + offering + seeds to your tax ....which is more

government gives u police , cheap University , fairly functioning hospital that can save your life in emergency , ...what do your church provide again ?
Cheap and useless education you mean?
Police that gags and kill taxpayers (employers) right?
Hospitals that they take out tax for from salaries before the christian section get to pay their tithe right?

The church provides the best schools around. They provide the a hospitable environment.

Church can do more than what FG have done
As a nairalander, tell me one thing you have benefitted from FG? Were you given palliative during the lockdown? Come see so many churches giving out foods to thousands of their members, ask FG what they don't allow RCCG to construct the flyover @redemption camp?

It's because of corruption. The FG want RCCG to give them the money instead of executing the project just like Winners Chapel Ota battled with Ogun state government to allow the church rehabilitate Idiroko Road where the church is situated.

Nigerian Politicians are the highest scammers in the world. They have emptied the Treasury of the Country, borrowed massively from China etal up to the point where your 4th Generation will hardly repay the Loans. Now they have turned their focus on Religious bodies and NGOs to continue their relooting.

Wake up Nairalandals and say no to this move. Needless to argue uneccesarily about this move by FG.FG is targeting at imposing Taxation on them to relooting.Religious bodies and NGOs are still better than FG and Polithievians accross the States, MDAs and FG in terms of welfare. They are the last resort to the common man than your FG.

I stand with Religious bodies (CAN) and NGOs on this matter.

Yes, gathering of the public that go there voluntarily.

You guys are dreaming.

The church of God will stand and no gate of hell and conspiracy shall prevail against it. Mark it, it's the Bible that said so.

Buhari want to silence Christians and the church of God. We shall see.

It's so sad how you people are always quick to call the name of God, when you people don't even know anything about God and who God really is. If you holy holy people really know God like you guys are claiming to know him, there won't be so much hatred for Buhari in your hearts. All I can say is that is only God that can save you all.

You are wrong. You can't be accountable to someone who is jealous of you.

Read my earlier comment again and slowly, especially on coexistence in a pluralistic society. When you do, you will see that my comment isnt objecting accountability.

Accountability is to Nigerian Government to Nigerian people as a law proposed by the government and passed by the elected Senate and Reps legislators representing all parts of Nigeria and belonging to all states all tribes and all religions. Please don’t be a bigot and don’t let your sentiments take you away from the truth.

If you have nothing to hide you will not object to accountability.

Those against CAMA Amendment are either ill-informed or mischievous.

In sane societies like USA, South Africa, UK, Europe, Australia etc, there are agencies that regulate religious organisations, CSOs and NGOs. Why should Nigeria's be different?

Some people said it is a fight against the church, and I ask, which Church?

If the Bible is right, the Church is the congregation of believers. It is not a building or religious organisation. And believers don't need any formal nomenclature or organisation to worship. The Bible says where two or three are gathered, CHRIST is present. The Bible never said people should establish organisations, neither did the early Christians establish organisations.

Now let's look this....

A man wakes up on a faithful morning, he approaches CAC (Government) to register his organisation, which he names XYZ Church

He lists himself, his wife, Kids or associates as Trustees

He gets certificate from the government to operate...

Yet, he argues with the government that they have no right to regulate the activities of the same organisation that he went to government to register.

He shouts persecution, war against the church and God.

Meanwhile, he is the final authority and CEO in the religious organisation, and won't hesitate to show the exit door to anyone that questions his authority.

The irony is that he abides to similar laws abroad...

As much as I'm not a fan of this administration, I support this CAMA... Although Nigeria politicians are useless

FACT:

FG or any other government cannot regulate the "Church" (congregation of believers). Even the Roman government couldn't regulate the Church.

However, government can only regulate religious organisations (formal organizations) that are registered with the government in line with the constitutional mandate.

The rule is simple, don't register your organisation with government if you don't want to be regulated... Same way you don't register your business and NGO with government if you don't want their regulation...

Please keep that filthy opening you call a mouth shut!!.... Speak as though wise but actually a fool.

It is beyond taxation. Issues such as accountability, national security, money laundering, adherence to corporate governance and best practices etc are involved.

It is important to note that not all income of religious organizations are exempted from taxes. Income generated from commercial activities are subject to tax and salaries paid to the clergy are also subject to PAYE. Sadly, most religious organizations always hide some of these informations from government because their books are never subjected to government scrutiny.

Money laundering is another major issue. People steal government funds and lauder same through the accounts of NGOs. Last year, the US government indicted a big player in the aviation industry for using his private NGOs to launder millions of dollars into the US. Dude was even using NGO funds to buy very expensive aircrafts.

National security is another area. How do you think Boko Haram keep getting funding and even moving funds around their various cells without detection? They use sympathetic religious organizations. How will government fight terrorism without monitoring these organizations?

See, let’s remove sentiments and look at this with an open mind. Buhari won’t be the president forever but the law would be there after him. This is about our country and not the president.

Y is there different law from north and south....

Y are northerners given stipends and southerners not given..I mean palliatives...

Y are northerners employed too much into agencies of govt. Southerners are not..

Y are biafians outlawed as terrorist while the Kaduna state Shiite groups are not..

Y is death in southern Kaduna not disturbing government but dt in Bornu disturbing them....

My guy... Stop fooling self with education..a president dt is transparent would live by it....that which is selective will b seen by all...you do other stuffs dt shows partiality, but harp on churches control and u want them to call both transparent..?

Nonsense! Y haven't they suggested these when terrorism was soo much at the north...

It only came cuz pastors are kicking against lockdown of churches when Muslims still worship...

I know all this u just stated...and still tell u ,the motive is not wot u tink...

Believe anything you like. Na ur life!

Too much sense, haven't seen too much of it in one mentioned in a while now. I wasn't surprised either when I checked the name! Well, as sensible & biblical your point is, those church goers won't accept not because they love God, but because their pastors make them believe otherwise, and the pastor is simply doing so because he himself needs people to fund his greed. Flexherbal you need to see this.

The govt just want these churches to be more accountable

Is the government accountable? Wait a minute, is there an atom of integrity in this current dispensation? A government that appoints Fulani Muslims to head virtually all important parastatals is not trustworthy. God will always win! The church will surely prevail in this. It cannot just stand.

I have gone through some of the comments and am shaking my head, when this government starts threatening the GOs of these churches by changing the board members, they will be forced to shut up as in criticizing the government, the GOs will be forced to compromise.

A government that has only favoured a section of this failed state has finally come for the body of Christ.

Christians this is the time to stop watching BB naija and realize that some thing is up.

Stop sleeping, first they came for your lands with Ruga, they have just reintroduced the bill again to take over your water ways, that is giving up your lands in the south for Ruga.

Christians wake up from your slumber and start speaking up but most of all switch of the TVs and start praying seriously.

Nigeria is on the precipice.

The church will always WIN.
The church as Christ described it, is where two or more people are gathered in his name. In that case, they can't be regulated by anybody non fight against, just as it were with the disciples of Christ. But where you see religious organisations that where first registered to operate in the first place as an association. There will always be room for regulation.

The govt is a thief agreed, but if armed robbers visit you, won't you accuse the same thieving govt of not protecting you? So does it mean that since the govt is a thief, they should not do due diligence in protecting nigerians from robbers?

So my dear, if the govt itself is struggling with accountability and integrity does not mean our pastors and churches should not be accountable and anyone who says all our churches have integrity already and are accountable is lying.

Let the muslims account for themselves too and the church do likewise and show good example. Is that too much to ask?

This is because you don't know similar laws are in place in the Western world where all this churches have branches and are complying 100%. No one will or can fight the church because the church is you as a believer. You're simplying mixing church & religious organisation that Christ himself fought together.
