HumanCalc:Getting residency anywhere in the world is not easy including in Nigeria. But people still get residency even in the UK. Apart from residency, there are other career paths like academics or research which are open to doctors as well. 3 Likes |

HumanCalc:Getting residency isn't as hard as you think. Nigerian trained doctors have been doing it for years, so your case shouldn't be different. I like that you're planning out your future early. A little bit of advice: When you get into med school, try to get your hands on as many scholarships as you can. You can get as many as four awards if you know what you're doing...and that's a lot of money. I'm just telling you this so you can have an easy time in med school while saving up for the PLAB/UKMLA/USMLE exams. I know some people that paid for their exams this way. |

Mark23:I really appreciate this advice sir. That's exactly what I have planned sir. Get Scholarships and save money. Save money from housejob and nysc too. But most importantly, get in and pass out medical school first..lol. That one na the real wahala. I think with 305 in Jamb and application to Ebonyi State University, that I am one step in already. Just have to wait. Once again, thank you sir. 1 Like |

HumanCalc: You're from Ebonyi? |
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by famzynet: 3:44pm On Aug 15, 2020 |
HumanCalc:That score should definitely get you medicine in Ebonyi State University. Wishing you all best in medical school. I hope to read your success story while you are practicing abroad years from now. I actually like planning ahead just like you and that helped me a lot in life because I already know what to expect before getting there. But I made that mistake of not asking what life was like after university. I was discouraged the few times I tried to ask. That set me back from guys who started planning before they left school. Don't be discouraged by people who tell you that you will cross the bridge when you get there. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Since the USMLE route is quite long and expensive. Would one be advised to go through plab and then subsequently move to the states. What do you think of this colleagues,How possible is this.? |
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by johnnywayne(m): 4:54pm On Aug 15, 2020 |
drajjay: Very possible, work in a non-training job for a few years ,raise some funds ,write the exams and then switch ,your UK experience would be valuable too |

HumanCalc: Good to see someone who's like me lol. I'm currently in 200 level, but I had already started hanging out on USMLE and PLAB forums and discussing with current test takers while still in secondary school. You're doing the right thing. You'll meet senior colleagues who'll tell you you're faster than your shadow. Don't let them dissuade you from thinking ahead. Just make sure you also use the same energy to also do extensive research on resources and study tools to use in med school. Like Anki for example. You should already have a game plan even before you start |

Obton:Thanks a lot boss. Yeah, I have everything formulated in my head here. I know things might turn a bit different than in my head but I believe it might even be better. This covid 19 is just delaying someone. In fact, I feel trapped right now. Thanks so much for your kind words. They are uplifting. And if you don't mind me asking, which med school are you? 1 Like |

HumanCalc: That's great to know. I'm at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. State uni also in Edo state. And yeah, things were really going so perfectly until this whole covid issue. But still trying to stay on track to the best of my ability. |

Obton:Wow. Nice one boss. That's the school I chose initially. Had to change from it as they are not admitting into MBBS this year |
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by Obton(m): 1:48am On Aug 26, 2020 |
HumanCalc: Yeah, that was due to school's habit of admitting too many students to 100 level. Apparently MDCN gave them the choice to either do that to limit the numerous influx or get sanctioned. |

Good day all. I am a 400level med student in a private university in Nigeria. I am 39yrs old, married with 3 children and would want to relocate to either UK or US upon graduation. Pls my questions are-- (1) will age be a barrier considering I'll be 42yrs when I planned coming over? (2) how do I start preparing for PLAB or USMLE on time to avoid delay? (3)Which is better PLAB or USMLE considering my age? BTW I have an MPH already! 1 Like |

lowcarb: I'll say PLAB. Competing with the young talent for USMLE might be difficult. Or wait, they plan to make USMLE non score based. Cool 2. Join PLAB groups on Facebook, Telegram and gain massively. |
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by famzynet: 1:16pm On Aug 28, 2020 |
lowcarb: 1)Age will not be a barrier 2)Giving your best to your clinical work right now and by reading not just class notes but textbooks. The things you need to cover in those exams are what you are being taught now. 3) Difficult to say for now because the exams are likely to change by the time you will be writing them. It will no longer be called plab but UKMLE by 2023. |
