People are called white and red.
What is wrong with being called black? How does it affect one negatively when he calls himself black? Give a logical explanation.

If you call people Pots and Kettle, it still changed nothing.

You keep on reporting me to nairaland moderators. It goes to show that you're either a teenager or a young adult for I'd really be ashamed if you're older that 25 and still "reporting" someone online. Childish much! I have a meeting to go in for. Hop along, child.

You are still stressing on religion. This is not a religious discussion.
it's cool wink

I am not even a religious person nor support every Pastor Chris postulation.
alright....no problem with that....

Yes the white Demonized every thing that Africa have as a people both religion and history(mentally and psychological). They had the opportunity to become advance in certain areas of life before others(thats the case of life, someone must get ahead before others).

absolute fact

Lifting this mental limitation, you have to start with common stereotype like the term black, education, then religion, way of life and leadership.

yes......I agree

There is nothing wrong with black but explain the term in your local language and explain how many good thing comes from anything such in your language.

There are many wrong cases of colonization and am not unaware of them but then the topic of discussion today is being called black instead of calling you by your heritage... West African, African etc

Firstly, I apologise cry cry cry

There's nothing wrong with black man....

Only that it has been demonized ..... that's why....it affected our local languages and belief.....and due to that we now dread it.....

Akwaibomman, I think you being too harsh with your comment. I just watched the video where Pastor Chris talked about black on this thread and you just need to be open minded about the comment. Literally, he is right cos I have check a few dictionaries for the meaning of black and he is right. It was when slave traders and conquerors came to invade our lands that we were being referred to as blacks. It was a word used to describe us as inferior beings and everything negative that the word represents. Back then, it was a intentional derogatory word used especially for slaves. its was a word that stuck all through the slave era. Then many Africans didn't understand English but as the years goes by, cos we adopted other languages and their words used to describe us, we have long accepted what we are called but doesn't necessarily mean we are what they call us. Just as Aborigines aren't referred to as blacks and Red Indians who are the original natives of North America aren't referred to as whites. Egyptians are Africans but aren't black for most of them neither are they referred to as white either. Its a mental thing that we are accustomed to.

We are a people of color and have different skin pigmentations cos of where we come from and how we are born. Some say brown, some even say caramel, melanin, some are even albinos. If the word black is used, its because of how we are described and that should be important cos it is what eventually shapes and defines us, so if Pastor Chris disagrees that we should not accept it cos it is a wrong perspective of us, I agree with him. Pastor Chris see it as a racial comment and I agree with him cos other words similar to it like Niger (also often called as nigga), Negro are similar meaning as black. In fact, Wikipedia says the word black was coined from those words and if that's so and blacks refused to be called nigga or negro, what makes black different cos its the same meaning!

Am an African is am an African. An African can be brown, black, caramel, albino, melanin or even white as we have seen in the new age. An american is an american whether blue, white, black or red. When we begin to view the new world from that perspective and not the slavery mentality world perspective, it will go a long way in subduing racialism and division amongst nations.

And on that note I stand with Pastor Chris. When we open our hearts and minds, we will see that for us to correct so many wrongs in this world today n even more in our country, there are some things we need to start refusing and changing if things are to get better.

Pls, no insults o cos I no insult you o, just sharing my thought on the topic
So let's say your skin is brown right, what does it change if I call you brown or black?

My hair is black, my eyes are black....which according to the pastor means it is evil, it is dark.

Hypothetically..... Let's assume they had called blacks browns from the very beginning.. what would you say today? Brown is bad or brown is evil?

It won't change the mindset of who thought less of people with colour.....the same person that called negro would have no problem calling brownies or darkies or melanins. Unfortunately the colour black was the scape goat

In the end everybody determines what they like.....I like the colour black and I have no problem being called a black

Question for you. Is the people we call white people today actually white in the real sense of colour? Calling Nigerians or Africans black is a matter of semantics.

Why did she not use title like "Black skin girl"?

Why Brown skin girl?

What is with the name "black" that made her to refuse the name looking at the fact that according to general Believe, she is a black American.

Can't you all see that she is trying to pass the same message that pastor Chris oyakhilome is passing.

Let me ask you people especially NIGERIANS.

They say NIGERIA is the most populous black country in the world but are NIGERIANS truly black? How black are we?

A larger percentage of NIGERIANS are brown skin which is 100% fact.

There is nothing black about us so we should open our eyes and stop accepting Nonsense.

Perhaps the reason why AFRICA is where she is today is because we have accepted something that we are not supposed to accept from the beginning.

How do you expect good things to come to you when you accept that your life is black.

Little wonder BoB Marley said in one of his song. "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery' perhaps he was talking to AFRICANS.

Singin' brown skin girl

stop embarassing yourself. Brown.can never be black. If you have colour blind seek help. A fair skin can never be white, even if bleached. If you're black, then you've got no reason being here because your likes would see white and call it blue or black, in spite of the glaring colour. Accept to be called black for all I care. Its what you've chosen out of ignorance and illusion.

I'm brown-skinned. No black man or woman can ever have a charcoal-like skin. Even Ghanaians don't have one. There are several Nigerians who have never tasted slavery talk less of being transported across border, who have skin fairer than that of some traditional Britons or Germans. Because of their skin colour, would you call them white? They're Africans. If you see an African with a skin similar to that of charcoal, you'd run because it would look abnormal. It's not everything the west will pack into your head you should accept. The same.people who told you the earth was spherical, that we have a number of planets which was later refuted , that spermatozoa swims into the overy only to find out centuries after that it actually swings, that there was something called evolution which was all a myth. If evolution was real, you should be looking differently by now probably have 2 heads and 12 toes as against 10. Monkeys should have turned human again and chimpanzees as known centuries ago as one and the same, ought to have evolved into another man by now. The fake evolution theory as you've been deceived with, from homo erectus to abilis and sapiens ought to have continued and metamorphosized into another homo by now and not stop at homo sapiens. Set yourself free from illusion.
You are a black man. If you like hit your head on the wall, if you like imprint brown on your forehead, or bleach your skin. You are and will always be a blackman. Its convenient for you to call yourself a brown skinned man instead of black because being black makes you feel inferior. Deep down you hate yourself and heritage and wish you are Caucasian, hence the illusion of brown.

Brown, htf does your skin look brown? Do you even know how Brown looks like? You used charcoal as a reference for black, well not even charcoal black is pure black. Why did you stop there? Why not mention how you compared your skin to a brown material and see similarities? Nobody is literally black or white or brown, it's what our mind attach different skin tones with.

There are people in Nigeria/Africa "fairer" than Britons, Germans? Hahahaha, ok. I live in Germany and this statement of yours is mere delusion. Please don't repeat it again.

What's that you blabbing about evolution? I wasn't even talking about evolving from homo this to that. As far as we migrate from place to place, as far as environmental conditions like the effect of sunlight, harsh weather conditions as far as we humans continue to exist, we continue to respond to these conditions, we continue to evolve in other to adapt to these changes.

I was referring to human race starting from Africa and diversifying into the different races we see today.

You should read more and learn how to respond like a civilised human.

U can learn from anybody just like they learnt and stole from us. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Many only learnt from the white man after slavery was abolished anyways. So it wasn’t the slave masters that thought u anything as such bt the refined or reformed whites.

The slave masters only thought u how to work on the plantation.

So i ask again who told u Ure a Blackman??
Well, you can choose to call yourself a brown, pink, ash grey, purple man. You can literally choose to be a different color every month, it's all in your head. I hear some people in USA now go as far as saying they are not human, some identify as a cat, plane, tree etc thats the irony of freedom. So my friend, you can be whatever you choose to be, it doesn't stop the fact that Africans from now till eternity will be seen as Blacks. You can keep chasing shadows or you can embrace who you are and be proud of it.

Who told me I am a blackman? How do you I respond to this question now, it's kind of rhetoric. Same people that told you, you are human, same people that told you Nigeria is located in Africa, same people that named our planet Earth and told you it's not flat, same people that told you that direct combustion of waste is harmful to the environment: The "Whiteman".

People should stop addressing you as black because you came from somewhere... People should call you by your heritage. If your family is full with albino, will it be OK to be called albino(knowing fully well the stereotype accosted to being albino) instead of calling your father name or personal name.

In same blacks there are brown, Light dark, and other forms of black, If the segregation of black become much don't you think, that even people of light completion would start calling themselves brown (eg brown skin girl) or the kind of bleaching going around nowadays.

People who are in the advantage side don't complain because they already got the better tags (white) but the other side which is black might be repressive and goes beyond a mean noun or tag.

Yes black doesn't make an African an under achiever but it has psychological repression that even in your height of success it still makes you someone who is struggling to light.

You should watch some interview of Muhammad Ali or think about the psychological success of Micheal Jackson.
This guys where a success but have to remove that cotton of being termed as just blacks before they could stampede their names in history.

I was even ashamed of Ali saying he became light skin because some white men slept with his ancestors, that's the height of their ignorance in America thinking all African is black in complexion.

They all sideline with South Africa in earlier days because they thought you can only be brown or light skin because of white. But today we have seen that even in a family of two black complexion we can have sibling lighter than others. We didn't by no means became black because we are always black. It's just a tag and ignorance coupled together.

And pls I am not one of Pastor Chris puppet or that religious and I don't agree to the brown tag either. My argument is we should be known as African or Nigerian or west African, the black or brown is still discriminatory and should be rested. I dont expect whites to complain that they are called white and i don't expect them to stop the black tag either, it's my responsibility to make it known and expect to be the way that favors me, An African or Nigerian.
Doesn't make any sense bruv. The Caucasian people's don't mind being called whites so what are you saying.

Pastor Chris really goofed on the black comment. Even the Bible never condemned black, only darkness.

Europeans have succeeded in linking black with darkness. So this talk of black being evil is simply colonialist.

Black is beautiful! And Africans have a wonderful spectrum of black.

Evidence of black Beauty attached.

Beyoncé' s brown skin girl is recent ..there have been songs about brown skin forever such as
Richie Spice - brown skin, KRS One- brown skin woman to mention a few.
As for pastor chris, once again KRS one said it way ahead him as far back as 1988 when he said ,
Im not white or red or black, Im brown , from the boogie down.....Very few nigerians pay close
