abdul824:There will not be any indirect or direct benefits The WTO is not Nigeria It is an International bureaucracy . IT is NOT funded by Nigeria and has negligible number of Nigerians on its payroll Do you know the function of the WTO? With respect I do not think you do otherwise you would not write this. Like I said how many previous heads of the WTO do yo know? It is a totally irrelevant role just like the Secretary General of the UN . The UN is run ultimately by the five permanent members of the Security Council. The Secretary General is as influential as the P in Psychology |

Brooklynsouth:That is total nonsense. Anybody can fill that post . I don't know what you mean by compete toe to toe with Ngozi? What is so special about her that Fulani's don't have? What did she achieve as Finance Minister in Nigeria? There is no need to tribalize this but the reality is that the woman was a total failure under Goodluck Jonathan with no single achievement to point to despite receiving more oil revenue than any Finance minister in history she was borrowing to pay salaries by the time she left office and instead of taking responsibility was blaming governors for demanding what was rightfully theirs. The FG had 54% of the oil revenue and she did not save anything and when oil prices crashed we were exposed. That is her legacy let us not forget. 1 Like |

aribisala0:seems you underestimate the power of influence. if the position is that useless, then I find it hard to comprehend the reason why countries/continents are mobilising support for their own. the role of the WTO is to facilitate trade by setting rules that will guarantee a level playing field for all member countries. if for any reason the DG of the org. doesn't draw benefits to his origin then atleast He would prevent some harm (unfriendly policies). knowing the names of previous DGs of the organisation isn't that necessary as such.. your question is similar to the problem most Nigerians have... they only know their president, shifting all blames to him while they have no single knowledge of who their LG chairman is Or that the problem they're complaining about is actually the work of the LG chairman. The UN isn't WTO, and even if they are same, having your citizen occupy such a lofty position is on its own a plus to the image of your country. |

abdul824: Which countries are mobilising support for their own outside Africa? When the last one was appointed did anyone discuss it on Nairaland? They cannot prevent any unfriendly policies. It is clear you have no clue how the WTO works It CANNOT bring any benefit to Africa BECAUSE it is set up to exploit Africa |
