Africa's richest man and the Chairman Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has thrown his weight behind Okonjo-Iweala's WTO-DG bid.

He made this known via his official Twitter handle.
In these challenging times @WTO needs the renowned skills and tested experience of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala @NOIweala to lead the organisation through identified obstacles and strengthen its position as the prime facilitator of international trade.

A vote for her by all is a step in the right direction. I fully endorse the candidature of @NOIweala to lead @WTO.

Aliko Dangote

NOI reacts:
Thank you Aliko my Brother for these wonderful words. As a globally acclaimed Businessman your knowledge about WTO and your confidence in my ability to serve is much appreciated.

NOI

Earlier, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark, had joined a host of others including Julia Gillard and Gordon Brown in backing the former Finance Minister in her bid.

World needs a functioning multilateral trade organisation. @WTO needs new DG w/ leadership skills to bring diverse nations together 2 resolve obstacles 2 completing a trade round & reform the organisation. @NOIweala leadership skills are badly needed there.

Helen Clark

Thank You so much @HelenClarkNZ for your faith in my ability to Work with @WTO members to move the organization forward. @WTO is needed now more than ever to help the Multilateral Trading System work for all.

NOI

Dutch businessman, Paul Polman, who is a former Procter & Gamble President for Western Europe, Chief Financial Officer & VP of the Americas for Nestle', and later CEO of Unilever, also backed NOI's WTO-DG bid.
The new director general of the World Trade Organisation @wto must have the political gravitas to reform, renew and tackle truly 21st Century frictions. I believe Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (@NOIweala) is that leader:

Paul Polman

Refreshing to see Paul Polman’s assessment of @wto from a business perspective. Many thanks Paul for these insights and the confidence in my ability to work with members to deliver a renewed WTO.

Very laudable endorsements. Whether you front her or back her, it shows you can count on her expertise and ability to lead excellently. These are not the type of elections that nurtw members, okada riders or market women endorse people. The caliber of those who endorse candidates in an election like this shows that the position contested for is not for people with WAEC attempt or missing results, but brilliant minds.

The Egyptians hating on NOI has been put to shame because: "The Egyptians you see today, you shall see them no more."

Meanwhile, the Resident Conspiracy Theorists on Nairaland will soon land on this thread BUT NOI keep soaring higher, regardless.

Coming off just few days after Akinwunmi Adesina was elected unopposed for second term as AFDB President, NOI's candidacy and eventual victory will be a huge plus for the country, despite Western conspiracies.

The simple truth is IT DOES NOT MATTER who heads this body any more than the head of WAEC or the Boys Scouts
The WTO needs to change and the head has NO SAY in that. That is down to the big boys like US,EU , Japan and China.

It it matters we would know the names of those who headed it before now.

They have been largely anonymous and forgettable. Who can remember the names of any previous holder of the role?

It all comes down to INTERESTS and nothing to do with competence.

Just like we saw with the Adesina probe if you do not protect the interests of the powerful they will rubbish you.

Giving this position to an African is deception that we actually belong . What do we actually trade as Africans besides commodities with no added value?

What we need is fair trade not empty positions

Nigeria to the world. President Buhari is really trying for the igbos.
Our daddy has proven to belong to all and not to some selected few. He's indeed a good man.
God bless him and the federal republic of Nigeria.
