Darkpanthera:The poverty itself is the war. they wants to replicate what they did and are still doing in the north all over Nigeria. Their main plan is to take away money in circulation thereby creating massive poverty line and then hand the wealth to a few whom they can control anytime they want to. That is the main reason they want to take away the wealth of the Church so that the Church can't fight for itself when the time comes. |

So, where do we then get the profits to 1..Fix refineries and power 2. Get more investment in the power and petroleum sector, because price controls limit investment 3. Pay for more jobs and better salaries 4.Even get financing.. Yes, if we increase prices of fuel and power,.people suffer. I know that But the reason why we have bad refineries and bad power supply is because we have been paying for electrical power and petrol below their production cost. Sorry, but if you want light for 24/7, and good refineries, it would be better for government to stop price controls in both sectors And yes, it is impacting my pocket. But the alternative is more loans and more loans, just to pay for subsidies |

Amotolongbo:You think they will? Let's keep our fingers cross. The Christian leaders are talking now on behalf of all Nigerians, Muslims, Pagans, Atheists and Christians and all those Evil antagonists on Nairaland are keeping mute. They won't praise them. But when they talk on KAMA they'd say they talk because of Tithes. Is this because of Tithes too. |

Kind of funny to see PDP supporters out saying that Buhari is bad and so on Not because they are wrong. Buhari is not doing well. Of he had diversified the economy we might have had some extra cash to cushion the effect of the price increases. But the truth is, if Buhari had not been in power, PDP would have done exactly the same thing he is doing. Because we are a resource dependent nation, and resource dependent nations with large populations like Nigeria are not rich. If you support the reduction in prices of fuel from 161 to 97 naira, you obviously want us to take a loan again. PDP should start putting up alternatives to APC. Instead of trying to play politics with this matter. In 2012, APC did the same. And here we are now. Nigerians too should stop voting for PDP and APC. They may pretend to be on your side, but when in office, the chopping commences. |

Mercy??! There can and will be no mercy!!! You all asked for this, and now you all will enjoy it.... Come to even think of it, all these were always going to happen! The signs were there even before last year election! I wonder why people are acting all surprised! When money was being squandered left right and center, while more loans were being approved by the rubber stamp senate, what did you all expect??! Truth must be said... This is the only route or option left for this administration!!! It is a pity the timing is so poor and inconsiderate!!! Let me keep reiterating... These things should have been done since 2015!!! They waited because they needed to win 2019 elections first! |

Now this is the most annoying thing,Nigerians in US are campaigning against Trump but supporting baba Bubu, what a senseless being?,(a question ohh),I wish they're in Nigeria to see the suffering of Nigerians,a government that don't care about the masses, bringing Arabians system of rulership to Nigeria(strike them with hunger, offer them plate of food and they'll be loyal to you)a set of government that's are opposite of all there promises,no freedom of speech in democracy that one's called the government of the people, for the people. Many farmland in Nigeria are been destroyed by fulanis, low food supply in the market, now they're coming up with increment in everything,it started with rice>dstv/startime/etc>electric bill with no light> now to fuel, all are very very essential. No protest, but busy protesting black life matters in Nigeria that doesn't concern us,the warm that's eaten our troath does not matter.wheres Charley boy(senseless areas father that was stupidity pushing his gay right in Nigeria)where's don jazzy, tiwa salvage, olamide, fashola, ugly mouth oshomo(pls u can complete it)onochie?,can't mention them all.Nigeria is dying or if not dead already.Let wake and know that Nigeria matters, not black life bcs all life are important. |

C lamentor78:Told you folks.. That restructuring was the only way out. A structure without redundancies is a nation in a cul de sac. Since the status quo is maintained, the outcome of any move by government is preset. Any savings by removal of subsidies will simply be lost to a structure that cannot develop Nigeria. Or can they say what they have done with the savings accrued since the subsidy removal 4 days ago. Of course not. It has disappeared into the mire of the infamous status quo. Probably used to pay the leave allowances of moribund Refinery Staff or feeding phantom school children or handed to a decrepit Lebanese to print parking tickets for the 'new Enugu International airport'....just fritted away as usual in this contractor's paradise we call a country. This is where the whole country fails. Both government and citizens, emperors and peons cannot just bring themselves out of sentiment to determine the real challenges and fashion ways out. Just watch how a few individuals will become overnight billionaires by this in full view of hapless citizens totally unfit for good governance. |

I can unapologetically say that I never voted the lifeless one of aso rock and would bear whatever comes my way and praise the Lord. But what of those that wasted their living voting him, I heard a rumour of them having a separate market where they have their own customized subsidized price. Zombies are wailing more than those that started wailing before them. Overtaking is allowed even in wailing. Mannabbqgrill zombie, over to you. |

kikero:Yes, that's one perspective - yours, and I respect that. But how about we as citizens through the instrument of the NASS raise and see to the passing of a bill on a drastic change in their (NASS) remuneration and that of the executive. The salary of a perm.sec is known. Add 100k to that and you arrive at the new take home of a honourable minister. Add 100k to that of a minister and you get that of a revised HOR pay. Add 100k to that of a HOR to arrive at a revised Senator's salary. All allowances, including sitting, are to be yanked off. If accommodation in Abuja is a problem, FG should house them in hotels till blocks of flats/condominium can be built for them. These block of flats/condo are for members of the NASS as they come and go. It is not to be sold to any of them. They evacuate as soon as their tenure expires. No more security votes for governors, no more pension for ex-governors and their deputies (they should return to what they were doing before emerging governors), they should be made to pay the salaries of any aides they wish to have from their own pockets, etc. If the executive and judiciary and state-level HOA /arms of government follow suit, you will be amazed at how much would be realized. I know that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle that for what I proposed to happen There's really no need to borrow or put hapless citizens through this misery. |

nemynely:I agree we should cut salaries as you say But it won't do much. The truth is, our income in the first place is too low because we are an oil producing country who cannot earn a decent income from oil so long as it is less than 139 dollars per barrel. Our breakeven price We can cut the big mens salaries but it won't be enough That's why we should also cut subsides. The money saved can be used for health, education and transport The extra income earned as a result of high prices in power and fuel can be invested in building up our refineries and power sector. Companies would also be able to access loans since there are no price controls The reason why we have a working GSM network is because the Obasanjo government allowed GSM companies to make their profit, and did not force them to charge low prices for the poor. They made their profit and used it to build the network we have now. Meanwhile we are expecting discos to sell power they produce at 53 naira per kWh at 30 naira per kWh or less..or petrol marketers to sell fuel at 97 naira that cost them over 140 naira to buy from importer. And expecting government to pay a subsidy that covers the difference, which they can't pay because our income from oil is so low, we have to take loans to keep our head above water. |

kikero:Noted bro. Not like I want to deviate from the focus of this discussion, but I can't help but mention corruption as being what has majorly landed us in this cesspit. What happened to the sum OBJ committed to the revamp of the power sector? What does turn around maintenance of our refineries mean? The timing is also quite insensitive. Let me for once tow your path by agreeing govt is trying to do something nice but in a bitter and painful way. Do we behead ourselves because we have a headache? I find it difficult to understand why a successful yam farmer would go out to purchase pounded yam. Really, this beggars belief. Why can't we fix our refineries or build new ones or at least allow modular refineries to function? Until we do, we will forever talk about fuel subsidy. If Ghana that we supply power to can allow her citizens enjoy free power till 2021, then the Nigerian government can be best described as callous. If you really look into what we can save from our expensive cost of present governance and all the recovered loot, you will fully agree with me that no citizen ought to be burdened with the empty shouts of future development dreams. I am no soothsayer, neither am I a pessimist, but this govt will achieve NOTHING with what they intend to save by castrating her citizens in this manner. |

SegFault:Largely because you can't see the potential job creation that results from allowing companies set their prices. Like the GSM sector. If they had been controlling prices, there would have been zero profit for jobs and infrastructure... which beneft the poor. |
