Seek CAN, Muslims’ support for public holidays

Traditional worshippers, under the umbrella of Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association, Oyo State Chapter, yesterday staged a peaceful protest over what they called discrimination against them by the Oyo State government.

The worshippers, who staged the protest at the front of Oyo State Government Secretariat Complex, carried placards bearing various inscriptions such “Stop discrimination against traditional religion”, “Oyo is a secular state, stop discrimination” and others.

They also appealed to the Muslims, Christians and others to join them in appealing to the state government to grant their request of giving public holidays to them.
The General Secretary of the association in the state, Dr. Fayemi Fakayode, who spoke on behalf of others, said: “We are gathered here today to make our plight known to everybody in Oyo State. This peaceful demonstration is necessitated by the attitude of the Oyo State government under the leadership of Seyi Mankinde to the practitioners of Yoruba traditional religion in this state.

Also, the President-General, Isese Foundation and President, Oyo State Traditional Religions, Baale Olukanmi Egbelade, said: “We want the government to give us the recognition we deserve. There is freedom of religion. August 20 of every year should be given to us as public holiday.”

HOWEVER, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Odukoya Sunday, who received the worshippers on behalf of the state government, promised to pass their message to Makinde.

He said: “They are part of the state and nobody is looking down on them. I’m going to present their case to the governor and he would do something about it.”

Traditionalists are also Nigerians, if other religion have public holiday, they should be given also.

It hurts to see people think traditional worship is bad but Christianity, islam etc are good. We imported well packaged religions, demonised ours through films and lectures but when real problems come, we remember theres one traditionalist somewhere..... Weve gone mad, without our religion, cultural heritage, arts...... We are nothing, allowing foreign bodies to strip us of our identity... As the adage goes... OMO ALE LON FOWO OSI JUWE ILE BABA E(NA BAST.. ARD GO USE LEFT HAND POINT HIN PAPA HOUSE) continue demonising yours.... When push comes to sholve, you would realise you are still second tier citizens in another mans world... all pastors, imams, babalawos etc are yahooboys or fraudsters.

1. when a pastor uses the bible to trick you into giving your entire salary as seed with the promise that where it came out from will multiply 10 folds and at the end of the year it never did, then that is yahoo or fraud. STEALING BY TRICKS. and it is punishable under the law and constitution of the federal republic.

2. when a pastor makes u believe that he has stayed for 5 years without visiting the hospital and never got sick because he paid his tithe and sowed a whosky seed for god so god gave him good heath. HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED. this is misinformation and it could actually lead to loss of life.
these pastors live in posh apartments devoid of dirt, flies, mosquito etc. the environment is disinfected regular and they eat very good fruits and food which automatically boost theor immune system. now tell me, how the Bleep wll these scumbags get sick. if they want to proove that they never got sick because of the whosky seed they sowed, let them go to agege or ajegunle or any surburb where their members life and stay in the condition they are without good phone and bad environment and let me see if they will not get sick.

3. when a babalawo tells u that he can do bullet proof for you , he should be arrested. these scumbags have claimed several lives with this stunt.

Some of them better pass some pastors and Imam

why dont they say he was caught with rosary or bible or koran? if they feel traditional religion is a crime then they should put it into law.
i know the babalawos are as useless as the pastors though maybe worst, but lets call a spade a spade. all of them are scammers. so give all of them the same treatment

First of all I would like to thank the MODS of Nairaland for bringing our issue to the frontpage.

We have also been demanding for a separate day, preferrably Thursday to have our religious content displayed on Front Page by Nairaland. Just as christians have Sunday and Muslims have Friday, we too as a federally recognized religion deserve a day to our honor.

We are the original and indigenous people of this land. Every Nigerian's grandparents was a Traditionalist Animist at one point of time in their life.


We are tired of being discriminated despite deserving the first right in our own soil. We neither have public holidays nor A National Shrine in Abuja.

Govt. Security forces routinely destroy our traditional shrines; at times even Bonafide legit ones.

A man is being pushed to be hung on the gibbet for blasphemy in the North, whereas we face blasphemy everyday from christians and muslims and all quarters of society whereby it has become a norm to do so. Who will speak for us?

The very same 2 religions our Pagan ancestors welcomed with open arms are today strangulating our throats and kicking us out of our own homes. This is why the Gods are angry and have heaped misfortune and devastation on Nigeria for all the wrongs that have been inflicted upon us by foreign colonial religions.


We deserve some respect.

I am even willing to contribute Weekly Articles for Traditional Animist Religions of different Nigerian Tribes for the information of the public.
This I am sure will foster National Unity as we see similarities in our differences.
