They are sacking the indigenes when so many Northerners and Yorubas are occupying different positions there
Did you bother to think about why these 11 contract staff were sacked? You didn't, because you're busy being tribalistic.
Any company can sack anyone if they find them incompetent. You only heard of the 11 sacked indigenes that probably mobilized their friends to start a protest, what if more than 11 were sacked and the others are the Yorubas and Northerners you just outrightly condemned? #StopTribalism

Rumuobiokani community that host Shell PH including Rumuomasi and oginigba are grossly marginalised.

I support this protest. It is better for SHELL to go now and let the communities take over there lands and go into farming.

T. Y. Danjuma and other Northerners owns the companies operating almost a life contract with Shell Port Harcourt.

Aluta continua my people

I saw Opeke and Ncho with other people I know in the pics.

Let me travel today and join this protest.

Rivers state has the highest number of "lazy" youths. Everything in that state is all about youth this, youth that. The protest happened because the leadership of the youth was part of those sacked. It is not that they were doing anything for Shell, yet they were being paid as contract workers.

My client in Onne faces the same thing. Community youth leaders bringing list of grossly unqualified touts to be employed even when the company informed them that certain number of graduates from the community have been employed but the youths would still insists on imposing their people on the company.

Today, the company have shut down their administrative and executive office in PH and moved to Lekki phase two. Only the technical staff servicing clients are left in PH.
If you want access to the money in Rivers, you must employ it's indegens, carry your company and its two technical staff to lekki, since you don't like Rivers state and its youth.

IF YOU PEOPLE USE YOUR HAND TO DRIVE SHELL FROM RIVERS STATE.

You will have yourself to blame.

WARRI PEOPLE ARE BITTING THEIR FINGERS WITH SHELL GONE.

When the good people of Nigeria was telling Warri people to let SHELL have a peaceful environment for doing the crude oil business they refused.

GO TO SHELL EDJEBA WARRI it is now a ghost town.

GO TO SHELL MAIN OFFICE it is now a ghost town

GO TO SHELL OGUNU near Warri it is now a gohst town.

GOVERNOR WIKE tell your people to take am easy with SHELL O!

SHELL IS NOW BEING FRUSTRATED TO GO TO GABON in central africa to invest in deep offshore oil.

PORT HARCOURT PEOPLE LEARN THE BITTER LESSONS THAT RESULTED FROM SHELL LEAVING WARRI.

Explore other decent ways to address your grievances.

CHEVRON NIGERIA LIMITED is now the only major oil company that is bringing PET DOLLARS to Delta state.

The Delta state civil service is not generating money but a consumer of federal allocations which still does not help the common man in the street of Warri.

NDDC has been eaten to comatose by the big men in Abuja.

WHEN WARRI MATTER came up for hearing in the House of Representative, Honourable Ereyetomi stopped Senator Akpabio from speaking telling him to switch off the mic that IT IS OKAY.

WHAT IS OKAY with WARRI your constitutency?

THAT IS DYING OF INVESTMENT?

You are in Abuja telling Senator Akpabio not to tell the world the people who ate NDDC money.

Sire, are you aware that Shell has caused more harm than good in the Niger Delta? Does the UNEP Report on Ogoni ring a bell? Are you aware that Shell has contributed to insecurity in Rivers by sponsoring cultists to guard their oil facilities which has in turn caused cult clashes between interested cult groups?
Allow people protest when they feel aggrieved.

You conveniently forgot the Igbo workers too.

Or are the Igbo workers of Shell from Anambra or IMO also indigenes of Rumubiakani?

Are all tribe of workers not working all over the SouthWest and North in many private multinational establishments?

Hello great nairalanders, please I need an advice on the use of olise platform for the purchase of an item. I intend buying a fairly used car from olise online sales platform but they are requesting that I deposit a pacentage of the total cost before they can send the car to me in Bayelsa. The account details sent is not the company's account but an individual personal account. Looking at the high rate of 419 in Nigeria, do you think I should go ahead with the transaction? Has anyone successfully done a similar transaction before? Is the platform legitimate? Please, I need your advice.

First of all the riff raffs I see in that picture don't really look like the quality of people that would be contractor staff of shell.

Second, so these guys don't know that demand for crude has tanked globally and that there is a global pandemic with job loss! They dont realise that oil projects are being slowed down or outrightly cancelled world wide?

Just the same Nigerian entitlement mentality that we have.

The problem of Niger Delta is mainly the Niger Deltans. If you investigate this matter sha, you go find out say na still their brother put their names for redundancy. I am not in support of tribalism or nepotism, but I know for a fact that our brothers sell the jobs available rather than give it out to qualified persons from the Delta.

You didn't read well. If you did, you would have understood what I typed. The company employed graduates from the community. Most of the lower staff are also from the community. But the youth leaders won't hear these. They want their own clique or members to be employed and given contracts that they are not qualified to do. Who does that?

I can tell you authoritatively that Northerners in Shell are not up to 1%. Reality is that Shell conducts its recruitment to world class standards and most northerners even with degree will not pass their entrance test, cos they earned their degree by lower standards.

Unfortunately most south south states have the same issue with education. Their youths don't go to school as much. The South West and South East have far more numbers in the education space and this is duly represented in those thst work for Shell.

To test it, go and look at the official list of chartered accountants from ICAN, or registered Engineers from NSE, or registered lawyers from NBA, you will find that South West and South East lead the way. South South and North are at the rear.

And this is a problem caused by the State Governors mainly cos primary and secondary education is in their remit. Before anyone starts to cry FG or Buhari. NDDC that should have helped, its the same South South people that undermine it as we have recently seen, so don't blame anyone else o.

Allow people protest when they feel aggrieved.

The part about cultists is a damned lie. Shell facilities are protected by Government security agencies. Which right minded person uses a cultist for security, much less a multinational.

Does it even make sense?

Rivers people are accommodating, go to other states in Nigeria like yoruba and hausa, immediately they know you are not yoruba or hausa, you become marginalized. Why you nor go school go study better course? Or should Shell automatically hire una regardless of the course you study for school?

We all know that this is no more than a negotiation for cash...The moment Shell gives the protesters small change to share, everything go return to normal... until next time... it's a silly for loop without an exit code.

Wish I had seen this post earlier. I have worked in this same Team in SPDC for over 10 years. I know every one of the 11 persons by name as they are friends and former colleagues.
While it is also good to include community workers in employment schemes, they should NOT be made into untouchables. Agreed, some of these 11 gentlemen are great workers, but a good number of them contribute next to nothing. And in a new work environment in Oil Spill Response and Remediation Team where this sack happened, there are far more qualified persons who have even lost their jobs as well. From 2012 to date, over 7 sack rounds have happened and in all these, the community workers have always been protected. It has gotten to the point where hard business decisions have to be taken. To sacrifice competence over community or partisan reasons will kill the company faster. There are rounds of appraisals done and some of these community workers have performed poorer than others and have simply avoided a long due sack simply because of their place of origin.
For every community worker that has been sacked, best be assured that 4 others workers have also lost their jobs. The industry is struggling and they must agree to this.
Will you see this much community bias in other countries? If things must work, we must learn to do the right things.
Before you quote me, I did not lose my job there. I am no Rumubiakani person and if my performance dips to the point I am singled out for a sack, I will simply walk.
