There are few glasses here and the common name for them are Portharcourt grass, water grass and carpet grass. The most rugged among them is the Portharcourt one.

The common name for it here is Portharcourt. It is rugged and can withstand harsh weather and if not we'll watered during the day season it will survive till next raining season.

Are you a qualified Landscape Architect or horticulturist? You're one of the few on here I see from your posts.

You are very correct.
As much as you can, folks should not fall for the artificial scarcity. Plan and wait if you can and it doesn't impact your project schedule, otherwise we indirectly contribute to the pressure of demand vs supply.

Lafarge, which is even not as readily available as Dangote on a good day, still delivered to us @ N2,500 yesterday. We will adjust our schedule to wait for the next truck delivery whenever they are willing to sell at same price.

We have decided to pace our project and will not fall for the trap to buy cement @ 2700 or 3k unless there is an official price increase from manufacturer (which is not the case just yet).

The rains are here and projects will slow down. Demand will reduce and lead to a supply glut, thereby keeping price the same... all things being equal.

Cheers.

I agree.

The only reason I bought was that my crew was in the middle of pouring the blinding. I should have had a reserve of cement but I was caught pants down.

Once the foundation is done then I will pause and watch the market. I can afford to.

So Dangote chose to reward us for paying 3,000 per bag. My workers have won 5k in cash prizes and lots of airtime from the last delivery.

I actually just need a basic inverter system without solar. I don't want the undue attention that solar panels will bring considering where I live.

I am surprised! Beautiful carpet grasses hides the beauty of house? Is it concrete that shows the beauty? Nothing beats a well maintained lawn and flower plants in any build environment. Over "concretization" of build surroundings in Nigeria is making it seems normal. Anyway, every mallam to his own kettle. Green scenery anytime, any day for me.

I think he is talking about those plants growing on the side wall of the building... see the earlier posted pic, not the lawn.

Ohhh! Now I understood. Ok ok.
I thought it was the lawn itself. Definitely, most people won't like the issue of grasses on the walls of their main houses as you wouldn't know when something dangerous is hiding there. However, I saw a lot of houses in villages in scotland that had the whole house covered with grasses except the window and door areas.

I won't do that on the main build but my fence is already being covered by the "creeping grass" grin

I actually just need a basic inverter system without solar. I don't want the undue attention that solar panels will bring considering where I live.

The basic here depends on what appliances you want to power, that will give the size of inverter to go for, and then the hours you want it to go will determine the size of battery needed.

As for not using solar panel.. How often do you have light in your place. Make sure you have adequate hours of light (but that will depend on the size of the system to be used) because if your batteries aren't properly charged your batteries will die off on time.

My advice get a professional solar Enginer to do it so you don't end up regretting your investment. Also go for good batteries batteries are key in solar installation. Bad Battery bad work, it will work for some while and then die off.

Note: Solar/inverter is an investment and it suppose to have a time of return on investment (ROI) so don't waste money and end up crying without saving up the suppose fuel money for any other project during the time in which the solar/inverter system is at use.

Now you see where I am coming from grin grin mostly the creeping grasses on the walls of a building is mostly peculiar to England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales.. that's where I see them most, driving along the country side.

But in the U.S not so much.

Funny enough most houses that have that in the U.S are million plus dollar houses grin choices i tell you, people do have interesting choices in life.

So for me it's not about maintaining them, I just don't like them, on the house, or on the fence.. I think grasses should be on the lawn grin

Same like, I don't like Ferrari 's or Lamborghini 's I know it is very pricey but I just can't drive them.. it sits too low to the ground ...

I prefer a car that's a bit higher off the ground atleast an SUV, even a camry is fine but no lower than that..

Yes o. Oyinbo can do all that, not good for Naija houses o. Much so in Europe and not much in America here.

On the matter of lawn.. I have an empty plot of 40x120ft beside my last project.. so intended to use this area for my green area. I contacted a person to help me plant grass there, I was billed N1.5m for the job. I changed my mind quickly and planted some hybrid coconut trees and sour-sop trees in the area... I will complete the area by growing vegetables or corns there instead of paying N1.5m for grass.

Hahaha. 1.5m is too much. However, those cash crops you want to plant there is very good. A fiends place I visited in PH has a well maintained lawn like the attached and that's what I want to do in my build in Lagos. They just filled the place with top soil, bought water grasses and hired a labourer to just slot in the grasses. See the result after 1 year at less than 100k. The major expenses was the truck load of topsoil. Labour wasn't up to 20k

People does that and mount John Deere to mow their lawns. It is no big deal. It all boils down to choices. Whatever interests you, turn it to a hobby and you won't feel the stress of it

My Oga you are right o. On top of that the guy want me to sign a monthly maintenance of N50k.
I was thinking of spending 200-300k on the grass since I already levelled the ground and added soil.
I was already making plan of buying a good Honda Lawn mover for about $350 from here so my Mallam can get work to do once in a while. But N1.5m is not for me o.
And John Deerie lawn mower vehicle is out of question o.

That is exactly what I wanted as in your pic posted above. Since a friend in Ondo State did the same for about 200k about two years ago and the grass look very nice, but everything always get K-leg in Lagos/Ogun. Instead of paying N1.5m for grass, I will rather put a concrete foundation there awaiting to be built in some years to come. I want green but not that bad. Thank you.
