South South was never headache for PDP. Check Edo presidential, senatorial and Fed Assembly election. Oshiomole's good was keeping Edo in APC hands but he lost by presenting a man he once demarketed

Those who are mocking ex Lagos Governor - Akinwunmi Ambode - on the basis of the Edo election are missing the point.

First, the Edo governorship election was more of a plebiscite on Adams Oshiomole than a contest between the PDP governor Godwin Obaseki and the APC Pastor Ize Iyanmu. So in essence, this isn't Obaseki defeating Iyanmu. This is Edo people retiring the former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole for his overbearing god father status. In fact, there is a sense in which it can be argued that the APC candidate could have won more votes if not for the liability that Adams brought to his campaign. When you add that ill-adviced video by Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), you would understand that the duo of Oshiomole and the Lagos BAT brought nothing but 'minus' to the APC candidate. That video of a man who foisted a semi-literate 16th century-brained coup plotter on a 21st century 'nation' only to turn around to address himself as "the leader of all democrats" rankled so many people and helped cement the resolve of Edo people against the APC.

So in a nutshell, what Edo people have shown is that no force, no matter how powerful can undermine the resolve of a determined people.

Lagos State under Ambode was an entirely different case because for one, it's always difficult, if not impossible, to rescue slaves who see their chains as some beautiful bracelet. The Lagos electorates, with the exception of a few, are quite in love with one man determining their fate. Or so it would seem. So there was very little an Ambode could have done without the people. Not with Tinubu's strong hold on all the party structure in the state, Asorock support as well as a well oiled non-state actor such as the Lagos State Road Transport Union ever ready to act as his stand-by instrument of violence each time the need arises. Or why do you think the road transport union in Lagos is treated as the 4th arm of govt? Who do you think flew the union leader MC Oluomo abroad for treatment after he was wounded in a pre-election clash in the run-up to the 2019 poll?

To uproot Tinubu from Lagos will require a combination of factors including federal might. This might just happen in 2023 if the signs are anything to go by.

But for now, Edo is indeed not Lagos. Just as Lagos is certainly not Edo.

You are percent correct and I believe you on this.

I'm sure Ambode must be bitting his fingers right now like what did I do to myself, everyone expected him to decamp to PDP but the bush pig did not.

Edo protect your mandate make sure results are not exchanged on the way.

You are right, the people their, don't have locus standi.,so Ambode chickened out.
But he should have built a strong structure from the beginning if he knew he was not going to remain a stooge for the rest of his tenure.By so doing,he can decamp with his structure(well,I don't think the elites have the mind of their own) and form a formidable alliance that can match vote for vote, violence for violence.
No one person has the monopoly of being mad in the market place.

#their ordinary citizens don't have the mind of their own
#their political class,same.
#Ambode,the same.
We will figure it out here from North when it favours us.

******* ********* *********
******* ******

Even as we wait for the final Outcome of the result in TOTALITY.
Let us say in addy,
Congratulations Edolites,

Let us expressly say that Obaseki didn't win this election based on his performance or love for the PDP.
APC played into the hands of the opposition and 3 major things we think played against APC:

1. Oshiomole already dented Pastor Ize-Iyamu's image seriously and praised Obaseki to high heavens in 2016 so the PDP didn't invest so much on PR or Image laundering.
Oshiomole already gave them what they needed to campaign about both candidates.

More of the reason we chose not to support either of the candidates from 'Day 2'.
And there is nothing outsiders support can do anyways. We can only type online,
It is what the indigenes want for themselves that really matter.
Not what outsiders are saying.

2. The election was painted like a power tussle between Godfatherism and the people of Edo.
This was emboldened by obvious influence of Oshiomole and the viral video made by Asiwaju Tinubu.

3. The hardship ocassioned by Covid-19 which was magnified by the ill-timed increase in pump price of petrol and electricity tariff.

We pray the people of Edo get rewarded with better Governance by Gov Obaseki but as I said earlier,
this election more of a statement from the people than a victory for PDP.

Good Edolites have chosen who they want to lead them for the next 4 years.
All the very best guys.
A better Nigeria all over is what we want.

We finally Rise on Edo election matter.
Going to Ondo....
See you guys around.
God bless Nigeria.

Sifia pains!!!

While I agree with some of your comments, the point is Ambode should have at least tried. Even without is decamping, he was still chased by EFCC which people loyal to him rejected.

I agree with you 100% that he would not have won either ways but he would have made a statement cos winning margin would have been lower which would put the state in a better psychological stead going into 2023.
