The company will only pay the tax for them if there was an agreement that the money he will be given is exclusive of the tax payable.

Tax is based on per country/state laws. In the UK, Spain and US, all gifts, bet wins, lottery wins are all taxable at 25% off the bet table. This is why Ronaldo, and Messi were taken to court and ended up paying almost €17 Million each. If same provision is stated in Ogun state law or Lagos then it is taxable.

Any money listed as an income is taxable as stated or ruled by each state/countries FIRS. The money he won is an income to him therefore...
