You have never been to South east during independence celebrations. Nobody gives a damn. It is business as usual. There is zero observance as every shop is open and streets are buzzing with people like every other week days. Markets are fully operational. Unlike what is obtainable this year, where all and sundry is cooling off inside and shops are closed and activities grounded.
We don't celebrate Nigeria independence here in South east. It is forbidden. To us, there is nothing to celebrate. This year, we decided to remain indoors. We have no part in this failed state. No. We can't be raising the flag of a country where nothing works and life has no value. We can't celebrate a country renowned for it's poverty status. We can't celebrate a country of vision less, myopic and greedy leaders. A country laden with religious bigots, terrorists, political vultures, tribalists, oppressors, nepotists and, the list goes on.
What happened this year is remarkable.
