Wickedtruths: I don't know if you are Igbo or not but let me educate you a little. Igbo have a tradition and that tradition have been taken care of both male and female child. Before an Igbo male or any male child from any tribe gets married to an Igbo female child. He must perform every traditional right. If you like do white wedding or court wedding. The same goes for properties. Even if the male child is a mad man, he is the owner of his father's properties. Where by their father feels like given his female child a share of his property, he wills it to her. You cannot tell me her father gave her the right to look after his properties when he has a grown-up man in the family. If she had a dead brother, that have children she is looking after their wellbeing. What she would have done is to go to their village chiefs. They will call for a meeting and the properties will be shared between her troublesome brother and her late brother. She can then look after her late brothers children from his own share of the property. She proving stubborn will lead to her early grave. 1 Like |

Bkayyy: Self hate for male sex because I said a lady should not be allowed to prostitute to take care of her siblings and told she does not av a say when it comes to properties ? I will rather self hate. If that is Ur blurry understanding of self hate. U can av a conversation without screaming 'personal personal' like PSquare. My position and take is clear on this one. 1 Like 1 Share |

IamD18: Backward reasoning indeed..... how can social media ideas end on social media, did you even think about the sentence before writing it. Moreover, the late father must have seen that his son was as good as not having one, which made him transfer his properties to his daughter..... 1 Like |

AFvckingAlpha:you are right to some extend. But the truth is that the people that made the tradition fail to think widely, now, assuming you marry two wives and one gave birth to only girls and the other gave birth to both sex, what now happen to the one that gave birth to only girls and her daughters. |

Bkayyy: My statement is not based on this story because there is a lot we do not know about. But it is my firm belief that a man can bequeath his property to any one he likes reason being that the property is his and he can choose to do whatever he likes with it. If I look at the reaction of this son, I can deduce why it may be true that the late father cut him off. 3 Likes |

Jafar1: This is the most stupid write up I have read this year. Know matter how rich you are, you come from somewhere. You must protect your fathers or ancestors legacy. Its just like saying because I have money, I should go go kwara state and buy like 5000 hectares of land, and say I want to leave Igbo land and claim that am now from kwara state. If everybody keeps abandoning there fathers properties or accestral lands, even you talking would not have anywhere to go. Lots of people taking don't understand the importance of ancestral lands, because you live in Lagos doesn't mean you from Lagos, understand that please. Myself, I have often say it, all properties I have in my village would be shared among by boys only, my female daughters would be married away, so they got know business in ancestral lands or lands and houses in my village. But other properties in cities would be shared among the girls also. Don't let civization make you lose your sense of reasoning. Even your Fulani masters are trying to capture your lands, so be wiseandb start thing very far. |

IamD18:So what happens when an Igbo woman files a case in court sighting the supreme court final judgement on inheritance? Will your tradition stop the court from apportioning her rightful share of said property? Your tradition gives less regard to female child but you people are quick to condemn other people's tradition. That was how a female Igbo neighbour was tormented for not having a male child by her stupid husband's family, when it was very clear it was the stupid husband that determines the sex of their baby. I called the husband stupid because he was well educated to know that he carries the XY Chromosome, yet allowed his family to torment the innocent lady. It is the man that carry the XY Chromosome and any gender you deposit into your wife is what she pushes out. All this barbaric traditions anywhere in Nigeria has to go. 2 Likes |

IamD18: Guy,I dont know what u are saying. There is no where it is written either by rule or tradition that women can't inherit properties even in the entire igbo land. Apart from community Lands, nothing stops a father to share his inheritance with his children especially the girl child. As a matter of fact,it does no one any good if we as a people dont question these obnoxious tradition that has made life completely impossible for our sisters and women to inherit land. It all begins with u and I to enact a change that will eradicate this jinx in our villages, communities and society at large. Whether with tradition or not I have already bought my children their inheritance and no traditional can challenge me for doing that. Who says it's not possible? 3 Likes 1 Share |

OrluFemmeKing:Not too sure. Maybe, he entrusted his daughter, being more responsible than boda Francis (the loafer that breaks people's head), to administer the property while also prioritizing the education and wellbeing of those children. Would be very difficult for grandchildren to be prime beneficiaries in a case like this when there are surviving children. 2 Likes |

It is very shameful that a noise making tribe like the igbos still practice such a bad culture, wickedness against the female gender. Wether a female is married out or not should not be an issue, the issue should be '' who does a parent want to handover his assets to''? Does a father want to give his assets to his son or daughter, or does he want to share among them? A good father should share such assets to his male and female children. I am very positive that in the near future, daughters will fight for their rights in igbo land. By the way, what happens if a man does not have a male child? I guess the evil uncles will take over right? Such stupidity, i woudnt be suprised if such village people would go diabolic so that a rich man would not have a male child. How about females who never get married? Would they be thrown out of their fathers house? Or would they leave their fathers mansions to go rent homes in strange lands? Was the person who made this culture sane or a mad man? Igbo tribe has one of the worst cultures in Africa. Go to the south south, west, etc, females are valued. 2 Likes 1 Share |

I dont know why, but anytime i see an igbo lady i just feel pity for her. Nowonder most of them prefer to marry other tribes than marrying an igbo man. |

[quote author=Beremx post=94496599] but their father handed the properties to her. Nonsense[/quote and for that reason she shouldn't give her blood brothers. What happens to her husband's property, should her sister's husband take all of them? |
