Good day. Please help recommend an after shave. I have coarse beard and i shaves like every 2-2 days. Sometime ago, I made use of a rechargeable clipper for clean shave. Some days later i developed pimples-like bumps. I have made use of several aftershaves all to no avail. Pls help me out

I've had the same problem. I think dabbing your chin with methylated spirit immediately after barbing helps. Beyond that, I was advised to use an anti-septic cream like Baycuten.

Eh, sorry to hear that, I have a solution that has worked perfectly well for me in many years.

It's called SAFE CUT Anti-bumps solution, It's in a transparent bottle and looks like liquid omo. All my bumps are gone and I still sometimes use it for freshness. It's sold in most cities, the last person got it for me from lagos, costs around N300 per bottle (but i don't know where) and it's very effective

Can be difficult.
Let me explain why you have bumps first.
You see, when black men shave the hair you are cutting is not straight because most black people have hair that curls.
So when you shave, always shave along the growth of the hair. Never shave against the growth of your hair.
Now the bumps are caused by the hair ingrowing. IE the hair is not coming out of the follicle; so it pushed against the hole it is
supposed to come out of and gets jammed. Before you know it you have dirt in it and it becomes infected. Hence the bump.
This is what you do.
Fist get yourself a good set of tweezers. You will use these tweezers to pull out the hair that is in growing. You must do this before shaving.
Don't skip this point. You must do good prep before shaving. Some black people do not have this problem. West Africans usually have this shaving problems. If you have to shave with a razor, don't rush. Take your time.
Back to my suggestion:
You need to get something called Magic Shaving Powder or Royal Crown Shaving powder. It is easy to get and they also come as a cream.
Follow the instructions on the tin and never use a razor to scrape it off. Use something like a plastic card. for example a credit card edge.
Also note do not use after shave after using this to shave. It will cause a scar because of the alcohol in the after shave. This is how I shave and never had bumps again.

Remember shaving with a shaving stick is an art. there are shaving sticks and there are shaving sticks. Disposables are cheap rubbish.
If you must you a shaving stick buy a proper stick not these throw away ones. It will last you for years. Also learn how to shave properly. It might sound crazy but believe me there is a proper way to shave with a stick.

Use 'canfour' (don't know the real spelling, a white solid substance used especially in clothes box to repel insects) after shaving. The original ones are those sealed in fine polythene nylon with labels and sold by the women along the roadside. Either rub it on your chin after shaving or grind it and then rub on the chin. You can do this continually every morning or after a specific hour each day not necessary whenever you shave. Also, try to wash your chin with sponge and anti-septic soap anytime you shave. That's what I've been using for the past 9 years and I don't have any bumps. Hope it helps you.

The rechargeable clippers are no good.
They do not get to the root of the hair when you shave,leaving room for bump formation.
Sharper shaving instruments such as shaving stck/razor are much better.You should use the shaving stick with a gel/shaving cream/foam and then use aftershave immediately.
Shave after taking a bath as the skin pores tend to be open after a bath,thus reducing the chances of bump creation.

Wat u are lookin for is called "save cut", the content is green or red in colour, just try it & I'm sure u will buy me a bottle of beer after using it, cos it very effective. All d best.

I have a relative problem on my head. Its called bump. it began a couple of years ago as a result of incessant and indiscriminate barbing. I have spent so much of the years with little good results. I'd appreciate any help or advise. Thanks

The moment I stuck to my clippers only to shave, I stop having bumps. Intact, I occasionally don't use after shave, just wash off with soap and still the bumps won't come.

DX Smooth is the solution to ur problem, u can only get it from South Africa and not in Nigeria. Tsan has given you a good insight.

But let me add that the shown powders are in different categories. Because of your coarse hair and your skin that is already battered due to treatment with all manners of shaving materials I will advise you as follows:

Choose medium or full strength shaving podwer and follow instruction

Shave in the evening when you are not sweating. Very important
Leave the cream on your face for some 5-7 minutes
Dab your face with clean water and scrape off with spatula ( I use only plastic material)
Wash your face gently and thoroughly with water (not warm). Don't exert so much pressure on your face while washing!
Leave the water on your face to dry. Don't use towel to wipe or clean sahven area.
Never touch your shaven face unless you have washed your hands with soap and they are dry

DON'T APPLY ANY AFTERSHAVE LOTION AT ALL, ESP THE ONES THAT CONTAIN ALCOHOL!
NEVER WASH YOUR SHAVED FACE WITH SOAP IMMEDIATEDLY YOU SHAVED NOR ALLOW SOAP FOAM TOUCH IT
NEVER USE SPONGE TO WASH THE PLACE EITHER. DON'T WIPE WITH TOWEL AND NO FACE POWDER!

Bathe with cold water before you retire to bed, washing the face again with plenty of water.
Once more allow your face to dry naturally without touching it. Brush your teeth gently after you shave. There is a secret to that.

I shave twice in a week.

When you follow the above regimen for some 2-3 weeks your face would have been healed

I am talking from my personal experience which you don't buy in the market. My one sure cent to you. grin

I do not know if you are the same people, but as a friend, I will let you know about a lasting solution to this fiasco (the pics of the infection in the post). try AB Bumps their numbers are 08033004726, 07057162020. I saw their ad some years back and with what i saw I think they know what they do. i saved their numbers since then in case of any eventuality like this one.

My bother uses a product called VAYA, its in a small bottle and has the tip on a roll-on
and also try to shave accordint to the direction of your hair growth, don't shave against your hair growth
( what i mean is check that direction your hair grows and follow that way, if you try to shave in the opposite direction, you would not only have bumps but it will itch you too) VAYA is a very good product that not just prevents bumps but also clears the already exsiting one and leaves your skin very smooth, and it is very easy to find.

I was introduced to a local solution few weeks ago that proves to be far more effective than all medications that I have been using, here is it: Buy lime (the bitter tiny ones) slice it open and insert a piece of alum, and then rub it with the lime on the affected part, it is better done in the night, repeat it for about four times and your skin will come glittering like that of a baby.

Lime +alum is the magic, it works on all skin types. Neo-medrol is 1k and does not work effectively on all skins. I have battled with bumps for 3 years but lime and alum put an end to it.
