Edo State Governor-elect Godwin Obaseki and his deputy-elect Philip Shuaibu on Monday paid a visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Obaseki wore a cap which read ‘Thank You’ to show appreciation for the role played by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in ensuring he gets a second term.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the PDP in 2019, only recently returned to the country for his son’s wedding after a nine-month visit to Dubai.

He tweeted on Tuesday about the visit, saying: “Yesterday, at my residence in Abuja, I played host to @GovernorObaseki and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who were recently re-elected for a second term in Edo State.”

Igbere TV reports that Obaseki was forced to seek shelter in the PDP after being denied a second term by the All Progressives Congress (APC) which at the time had Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.

The governor-elect and his deputy have been meeting PDP leaders to express appreciation for their victory at the polls.

This thank you visit should be wrapped up by now, or he should allow his Deputy return to the state and face governance while he (the governor) continue with the thank you tour.

My condolence goes to Tinubu and Oshiomohle. My prayers are with them.
