Three days to the governorship election in Ondo State, the candidates of political parties participating in the election have signed a peace accord as part of the efforts to ensure the exercise is violence-free.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, and the Zenith Labour Party’s candidate and deputy governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, together with the candidates of other parties signed the accord.

However, there was a mild drama at the conclusion of the event as Akeredolu refused to shake hands with the deputy governor.

The Master of Ceremony had asked the three major candidates to embrace, shake hands or bump elbows with one another as a sign that they had embraced peace.

Akeredolu greeted PDP’s candidate, Jegede, by bumping elbow with him as requested by MC but when it was the turn of his deputy, the governor refused to shake hands with or embrace him.

Instead, Akeredolu just waved at Ajayi.

The event was organised by the National Peace Committee in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission and held at the International Events Centre, Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.

That's crude and barbaric from Akeredolu, charge and bail lawyer. Little wonder people say he is too arrogant

I love that.

He is not an hypocrite.
They are not in good terms and having a handshake is mere "eye service" and it is hypocritical.

If you are fighting a man, fight him and frown at him, don't smile at people when you know inside you that you detest them. It is an act of hypocrisy especially when it is someone that adorns himself in a garment of betrayal like Agbo.

Don't be an hypocrite like some of those commenters above me.

We are all human, it takes lots of excess maturity to be in good accord when the issue of betrayal is coming to play. I just pray may the best man who will put the plight of his people first and continually seeks the laughter of them wins

It's hard to be angry with someone and still be faking smiles with them. That's dangerous and hypocritical.

Most sensible comment here.

Is there any election in Nigeria that they don't sign peace accord before elections?

Even Wike and Dakuku signed peace accord but see what they did to themselves on election day.

Nonsense hypocrisy.

Aketi should coman be hugging on camera a man who betrayed him even when the man is still maligning him and hasn't even apologised to him.?
(I know that wailers will now coman be asking how did he betray him?
Yes it is his deputy's right to leave the party but doing that just a few months to a crucial election is nothing but betrayal and then criticizing a government you were part of for 3 years and 6 months because you want to contest.
That is beyrayal)

If he wants peace and hugs with Aketi he should first apologize to him.
That's the only way I would call Akeredolu's action malicious and unforgiving.

Aketi is a real niggar, no time for pretenses.

That's not fair at all, politics is all about spirit of sportsmanship, fairness to friends/foes, diplomacy and maturity. No permanent friend, no permanent enemy. So do not allow personal interest to overide national/Ondo interest. It's not about the two of them, it's about the followers. This will send wrong signals to their followers that it is fight to finish.
