How much are they paying you to be carrying propaganda for government?
All these people accusing ASUU, why can't you ask your "sincere" government why they always renege on their agreement with ASUU?

the main issue is that most Nigerians don't really know the TRUTH about ASUU/FG trade-off. I have taken time to understand the whole issue at hand and have come to the conclusion that FG is to blame. the truth is that the union is not asking for an increase in salary as many people here thunk. firstly, if government is sincere about the IPPIS, why is it that even the NASU and SSANU, who hitherto, had been enrolled, are currently on warning strikes because of the same IPPIS? I also understand that the unions in polytechnics have also served government ultimatum on the same IPPIS matter. also, why are there discrepancies in salaries? how come government has REFUSED to pay minimum wage arrears to these categories of workers for close to a year now? then, I find it difficult to understand how government claimed to have JERKED UP the minimum wage while salaries of some certain categories of university workers actually REDUCED drastically. I think government should address these issues across board in tertiary institutions.

What is this people fear on IPPS? This is one of the best policy of government. It doesn't reduce or delay salary so what is the problem?

One of the problem we face in this nation is creating unnecessary potfolio all in the name of embezzlement. Example is the issue of Sars we face today. ASUU should be paid like other parastatals

ASUU should be scrapped by the govt the exact same way student unions have been scrapped by ASUU tertiary institutions. What nonsense. How can an employee of government dictate to its employers how much they shud be paid and how they shud be paid and still demand to be paid during strike when no work was done? Lecturers teach in several universities and get paid several times but they clamp down on students when they make complains. Until this is done, we go no where. Strike every time year on year at the expense of students whilst sabotaging the future of the next generation. Is lecturing job by force? Pls resign and respect yourselves. If u all survived the Corona period without your salaries, then please move on with your lives and stop this nonsense. We are talking about SARS now and these lecturers want to distract us. Pls resign or else when we are finished with SARS we will come for ASUU and start the "END ASUU" revolution too. Nigerian students must rise up now and seize their future from these rebels and hooligans calling themselves ASUU who refuse to resign and also refuse to do the job their are being paid for.

No employee on earth detect his mode of payment, no us be very careful, if care is not taken federal government will come out with an executive order proscribing all the unions on campus

It seems the aim of ASUU is to frustrate the efforts of this government

There is no time a son can get all he wants from the father at the same time, they should strike a balance

It is unfortunate that during this global lock down it was only in Nigeria that universities were closed down totally, it is a pity

oluseyiforjesus:
ASSU shld go n sit down joor
If there is no corrupt reason involve u pple shld accept d FG plan
Ghost worker full una midst

And what gives you the assurance that there are no ghost workers under the IPPIS scheme? Lecturers were paid with the same IPPIS for 4 months without them being enrolled before the AGoF decided to stop the payment in June probably because ASUU members raised concerns on how they were being paid without enrolling and being captured. This implies that they can just enrol anyone they want and the person will continue to receive salary without no one knowing.

In addition, if there are ghost workers in the university system, is ASUU to be blamed? Nobody gets on the payroll of the university without the knowledge of the VCs, University council and bursary (mostly the VC and the bursar). The VC and all the external council members are appointed by fg. The bursar is appointed by the council. Now tell me how ASUU is to be blamed if there are ghost workers. If the aim is to get rid of ghost workers, is IPPIS an efficient solution? The answer is no as there are better ways to exterminate the issue of ghost workers. ASUU has complained severally about fg's refusal to send visitation panels to the universities.

All the other university unions (SSANU and NASU) are also on strike because of this same IPPIS despite having showed support earlier. Is this not an indication that something is wrong with the scheme?

See, there are many things to say about IPPIS but the conclusion is that if ASUU loses the fight against IPPIS, the gainers are the OAGF, MoF and director of IPPIS while the losers are the students and parents.

Note that IPPIS is not among the top 3 reasons for the current ASUU strike.

Hmm

We argue to gain more enlightenment and if in the process, we encounter superior arguments, we should accept it.

You made a valid point by referring to the ghost workers issue- we don’t want ghost workers that sap our resources struggling to go round.

ASUU went on strike before pandemic thus it wasn’t in the midst of pandemic; It wasn’t because of IPPIS that they started the strike; This same government agreed at a time that they are willing to looking into the alternative ASUU will present which is UTAS since it accommodates most of the peculiarities IPPIS is devoid of

eg Adjunct lecturers (Hardly will you see any department/faculty with adjunct Lecturers from the industry). An engineering faculty with a course on Engineering law (just an illustration)may borrow lecturers. Also, those presently on IPPIS in other ministry have started complaining of the irregularities because I have a colleague who complained recently.

To rectify issues, you might need to travel to Abuja (Security, finance, stress, not meeting them on seat and telling you to come tomorrow), why hasn’t the Government decentralized this IPPIS. A friend has been advised to travel to Abuja recently.

We are quick to forget that this strike is premised on the follow up on previous agreement the government has successfully renegaded on without no commitment to do anything significant. IPPIS main issue came up when the stopped salary in which strike was on before the focus shifted to IPPIS.

Again, I ask, students have never supported revitalization and adequate funding and we are quick to condemn some persons who wants that. Government really fears the students’ protest but unfortunately they don’t protest for better education or support the struggle since we all want to quickly graduate. Those schools abroad get huge fundings for education. If you perceive that there is a misappropriation in university system, why not wade in and be in charge of fixing the infrastructure and revitalization fee and leave the school administrators out of the process- come and build and innovative rickety libraries.

Remember that anything Government is continuous and not only must you fulfill the promises but build on it. Again, this struggle was before so many of us are born, why are we still in this state. Please kindly do your research on how much Graduate assistants and Assistant lecturers earn.

Recently, they retain best students to lecture but after seeing how decayed the system is coupled will a paltry salary of 105k for some school lecturers, they accept offers from universities abroad and the system weakens further. Government only focuses on the propaganda of 10,000 lecturers as Prof whereas the bulk are in the very lower cadre who will print, publish articles, fix their offices with their money especially for those who could never sell handouts as a university rule. They are left with only meager salaries. I will stop here.

However, the challenge with ASUU is their penchant for shouldering all the requests needed for school revitalization. If ASUU focuses on the welfare of the members alone (which in hard fact, not possible though since university structures and infrastructure isn’t alien to ASUU’ operations), the strike won’t be incessant. If the students and parents don’t ask for better education, leave them to it. You can’t be fighting for people who don’t understand you.

If any ASUU member is found erring for misappropriation , prosecute them instantly but we forget that ASUU is academic and not always at the helm of affairs of most administrative activities of some universities and how some of it sef is being used are not even known to them. ASUU isn’t asking for increase in the poor salaries as highlighted. Till now no minimum wage has been paid.

All we want is a balanced view. So pathetic that this struggle has been on for ages. If only, if only they fix it once, Government would be able to brag one day.
