EndSARS Protesters block major roads, streets in Calabar

…protest at Police Command Headquarters

About 1000 protesters including celebrities took over major streets in Calabar, Cross River State capital to protest against all forms of Police brutality, unprofessional conduct by some units in the police force.

Although the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday disclosed that the unit(FSARS)has been dissolved but a lot of Nigerians are still in doubt that thier disbanding was a charade and the move untrustworthy.
Vanguard gathered that the protest which started at about 10:00 am saw many residents of Calabar take to the street causing gridlock along most popular and commercial roads including Mary Slessor by Watt Market, Marian Road, IBB Way, Murtala Mohammed Highway, and others.

They further took the protest to the governor’s office, the Headquarters of the state police Command where they were addressed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Samuel Musa.

DCP Musa said that all was now under control following the directive of the IGP while pleading with the protesters to proceed peacefully and avoid breaching public peace as it will also be an infringement on the rights of other citizens.

The protesters were carrying placards and chanting, “Stop Police Brutality, “Increase police salaries to end extortion”, “You messed with the wrong generation, “Reform the police immediately”, “We are humans not lab rats, “End SARS not disband SARS” amongst others
The protest was joined by popular Calabar celebrities; artistes, comedians, actors, and activists who also expressed dissatisfaction over the unprofessional conduct of some police officers

However, President Muhammadu Buhari has addressed the Nation stressing his administration is committed to extensive police reforms.

“The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people,” he said

Excerpts....

buygala:
I don't stand with #EndSars..I stand with #ReformSars particularly and #ReformtheNigerianPoliceForce..

As e dey go now, the #EndSars protests have been hijacked by Yahoo boys, prostitutes protecting their Yahoo Boy Customers, and even armed Robbers, kidnappers and murderers

I detest SARS Officers for their high-handedness and abuse of power, but these SARS guys are a part of the Police force particularly dreaded by hardened criminals....this is because these criminals know these SARS guys are also hardened crooks themselves and are licensed to act swiftly and ruthlessly to curb crime

You don't cut off your head just because your nose is ailing
SARS as presently constitited have abandoned their primary assignment of apprehending armed robbers..after all SARS means "Special Anti-Robbery Squad...they have now taken or upon themselves to do EFCC's Job of apprehending Yahoo boys abi na suspected Yahoo boys, and have extended that to harassing citezens who make the mistake of appearing fresh, young and have the guts to have laptops and phones on them

That nonsense must stop...but that does not mean SARS should be scrapped..They are an absolutely necesary evil

In the whole mad hysteria which is the #endsars protest, Nigerians forget that there are more deadly police departments like the SACS (Special anti cultism Squad)
IGP X-Squad
Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad .

All these Squads are very joyless and are fully licensed to be as brutal, if not more brutal than the SARS Everyone is shouting about..
If the Police want to be mischievous, they will disband SARS and move all its officers to these other deadly squads for them to continue 'the Lord's Work"

Shebi i have read of a case where Soldiers connived and kidnapped a young boy in Imo State, under the guise that he was being arrested on arrested on suspicion of being a Yahoo Boy..
After kidnapping the young boy and forcing him to pay more than 1million naira to them, they killed the boy, dumped his body in the bush, and made away with his Lexus Es350 car..This happened late last year abi na this year sef..
Because of that, why haven't we called for #EndNigerianArmy?

I still remember how some officers of the same Nigerian Army killed many policemen while aiding the escape of a fugitive kidnapper in Taraba State..

We didn't call for #EndNigerianArmy because of that..

Point is..the fact of the existence of some Renegades in an organisation does not make that organization totally useless or worth discarding..

If the #EndSars protesters are truly serious, let us also end Nigerian Army because of their atrocities as well

His words: “The defunct SARS was a unit of the police. It was an administrative creation of the IGP, not created by any executive order or legislative act.”

BREAKING NEWS FROM WIKE'S RIVERS STATE.

The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State.

Therefore, all proposed protests under #End SARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.

Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.

Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.

sammy329:
SARS has been disbanded, the president also said it, why are these MISCREANTS still shouting #Endsars. It seems some of them are having an intention of revolution, FG should just use force on these THUGS.

Protests is not needed again, why waste more lives. FG is too soft on these THUGS, by now I expect the DSS to have arrested 80% of the influencers fanning flames of war on twitter.

Nigerian youths are gradually being united and this is a bad news to our government and politicians.
With this unity we can make massive impact.

cheesy .. I don't see protesters.. All I see are hoodlums, thieves, armed robbers, assassins, terrorists, political oppositions, criminals, kidnappers, clout chasers, saboteurs, and other end-time elements...

The police and other security agencies should ensure that the hoodlums constituting public nuisances are brought to book..

I know their nairaland supporters are gonna attack, insult and condemn me for this. But I don't care.. I will speak the truth no matter whose ox is gored.

If I talk truth, I go die. If I talk lie, I go still die. So I rather talk truth and die.. cheesy Dino Melaye..

Meanwhile, before you begin the bashing, I am not the only one on this... Even your Lord and Savior, Governor Wike, agrees with me...

May God bless Nigeria.

FG don enter trap.
Someone said how there's no winning position for the government in this SARS protest.
The people have realized their power, it now remains for FG to handle the situation with tact.

Ajegunle

Despised

Reviled

Rejected

Object of cruel mockery.

Before I was conceived, I heard of you,

Dumps for homeless migrants,

Debased and inferior.

Was beauty ever part of you?

This throng,

That daily treads your well worn streets,

Whither?

Your brackish waters,

Home to unseen enemies,

Children splash uncaring,

Your market is a meeting place,

Young and old,

Rich and poor

Your wares to behold

Ajegunle, the harsh teacher

Survival skills your forte,

Sharpening and shaping lives by your creeds

Ajegunle,

The enemy of state love,

A point to prove,

Creativity crams herself into your nooks and crannies,

The envy of rich Ikoyi

Ajegunle,

You must visit with vigilance,

Day or night

Hunters abound,

Roving eyes,

Seeking purse to prey upon

Their kills dissected in the crevices of Ajegunle

Where the oppressed oppress another

Atavism is a regular guest at Ajegunle

Where order is almost a crime,

Disorder the norm,

Ajegunle,

Kingdom of numerous kings

A reflection of ourselves

Poverty amidst riches,

Want amidst plenty,

Ajegunle,

Despised

Reviled

Rejected
