where IG failed totally was when he disbanded the SARS and immediately created SWAT without letting the heat cool down. he failed on the spot for not giving space and time for youths to calm down. by the end of this month, we shall know where we are and what is what. we move. ✌ |

Scrap the Police Affairs ministry and place the IGP and his men fully under the Attorney General (Malami needs to be sacked and a person of good repute appointed though) Then, second civilian lawyers from the ministry of Justice to take charge of administration within all the police formations/zones, with a few lawyers put in charge of each area/station (these would be career federal civil servants). This will put an end to rogue policemen seeking inducements from detainees in exchange for their freedom, or worse, killings and organ harvesting that became the hallmark of SARS units. A policeman's stake in a detainee's fate should end the minute he deposits him in the cell, otherwise he gets endless opportunities to convert that stake into money. Police reform is not rocket science, the key point is that the IG and his senior officers need to be subordinated to civilian control as opposed to the native constabulary model used by the British to suppress and subjugate their colonial territories. |

This is a major step towards restructuring the country, why are most people here commenting since are pessimitcs? The President and the Vice President should commended for these decisions. |

Mickiebrownkie:Fucking useless people you want to improve revenue and you are still paying 128billion naira to less than 500 members of the National Assembly. It is time to make sacrifice starting from the president to the poorest Nigeria. The number one priority of the commander in chief is protection of life and property yet you budgeted 403 billion naira to 371,800 men of the Nigerian Police and you want security and development. The president has failed in his number priority. |

Federal government create wahala as State Gov to see to it. This body is to investigate, so who is responsible to melt out punishment. This people think from their anus |

How about State Police? Common sense is not even common jare. State Police in Nigeria is long time coming. Let the Federal Police be disbanded. Every Police commissioner should report to the governor. There is no reason why Sanwolu needs to be flying up and down to EndSARS. It's clear as day that we need to restructure our systems. Even if we won't regionalize at first, many things should be state controlled. |

Nobody should have a direct control of the police force. Absolutely not the governor.

RaptObserver:I love what you put down in your last paragraph. It will make them to think twice before harassing any body and when they think of their salaries being tempered with as a consequence of their ill action, it would make them mellow down. |
