OgaLanister: It won't be stated but by looking at your transcripts, you would be gauged. If you target Imperial Universities (Japan's equivalent to the Ivy League), it's important to present good grades to stand a chance. Everything depends on the course, faculty and university. The more prestigious the faculty and university, the higher the requirements. Just like applying for Pharmacy at UNN has different requirements from Zoology in the same school. Since I don't know your grade, I cannot make any definitive statement. But let's say it's 2.1 (3.5/5.0), fair and good. Private universities (Keio, Kwansei Gakuin University, Waseda, APU etc) could accept lower grades but are really expensive. So stick with national universities. For instance, a semester's fee at Kwansei Gakuin is equivalent to the annual fee in Tokyo Tech or Tohoku University (Tokyo Tech and Tohoku University offer better job opportunities and are highly ranked than all private universities. Only Waseda and Keio come close). The high grades I mentioned is for someone who is undergoing or about undergo undergraduate studies in Nigeria. The higher one's grades, the better. Expect more people to flee Nigeria when the pandemic is over, so people currently studying should be at their very best. Yes, Nigeria isn't considered a native English speaking country just like Kenya or Ghana. I believe it's because Caucasians aka white people have made SA their home country. Since they are the richest and powerful racial group in the world, they made it possible. |

NaotoKan: I don begin fear seriously, so one with a 2.2 result doesn't stand much chance. Do they offer something like a post graduate diploma course over there for a graduate with a weaker Bsc who may be unable to secure a direct admission for a master's program? |
Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 12:38am On Oct 13, 2020 |
OgaLanister: That is not what he said. 1. They are prestigious high ranked universities in Japan like too 5, you have to be good academic ally to get in They are University of Tokyo (Todai) Kyoto university Hokkaido University Tohoku university Can't remember the other now. 2. You can get in with 2.2 for a graduate program in even the mentioned universities in number 1, but it depends on the professor in charge of the specialist ion course you want to do. Which is why we have always said on this page. Always send mas to the professor. If he accepts to have you in his lab based on the research plan you sent to him.then you will get admission |

Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by majisuka(m): 8:34am On Oct 15, 2020 |
OgaLanister: For graduate school, you can contact the potential supervisor directly. Prior to that, you need to list the ones that are most likely to suit your field and even better, if they publicly announce that they are actively looking for new members for certain project. Most labs in top universities have official webpage and they routinely post these information, not only vacancy but also new publications as well. Mind that graduate studies in Japan are mostly research-based and one needs to be assigned to a lab (and research project supervisor). Therefore, you have to do some research about what projects they are conducting recently. At least you understand and well-versed in the concepts of what these labs are doing to start with. |

uckennety: Yes, follow the steps outlined by Majisuka and Blackbriar on applying to graduate studies. You would need to factor your wealth of experience considering when last you finished undergraduate studies. 1 Like |

uckennety: Estonia over the third worlds largest economy? |
Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by kutiman00: 7:35am On Oct 17, 2020 |
blackbriar:lol...i was confused by what you wrote but after debugging my brain with Google i finally understood you meant; Estonia over Japan - 'the world's third largest economy' ? and not 'the third worlds largest economy'... |
Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by uckennety(m): 7:42am On Oct 17, 2020 |
blackbriar: I don't understand |
Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nobody: 10:48am On Oct 17, 2020 |
uckennety: Simple English: you want to choose Estonia over Japan which has the world's third largest economy? For instance, when I was planning for postgraduate studies, I listed in no particular order: Germany, the US, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. I factored in the size of the economy, reputation of universities and ease of attaining citizenship. Think am o! 2 Likes |

NaotoKan: China is the 2nd largest economy go China and die of hunger lol! Japan is good but it's better than where I am now! but life in Estonia is easier 2 Likes |

Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nobody: 8:02am On Oct 18, 2020 |
OgaLanister: I find that funny and ironical considering the bold by Majisuka. majisuka: No one knows what you studied, what you intend to study but you want random people to post the links to graduate studies' pages. Shey if I post links to Toyohashi University, you go like am? Or will you be able to afford fees by Waseda? What about Fukushima University, e go make sense? Or I post links to some obscure graduate programs in Hirosaki University? So you see why you need to conduct your own research to find what you desire? When Majisuka made what I described as the legendary post, I didn't wait any longer, I did my research and applied to six universities. Followed up with calls made in the night (Nigerian time - 8 hours behind Japan). Initially, my major issue was the "come to Japan, write the entrance examination and return to wait for the result". But that issue was addressed by both Blackbriar and Majisuka, so what else was left? Applying, applying and applying. You need to start imbibing the spirit of being a researcher if you really want to enter a graduate program. 6 Likes |

Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 9:23am On Oct 18, 2020 |
NaotoKan: Which was I asked one, if he truly wanted to come to Japan. In japan.no one has time to assist you with all this information. They don't even speak English and those that do are shy to speak it. If in this internet age.you can't do a simple google search....hmmmmmm. |
Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by majisuka(m): 3:08pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
blackbriar: Fair enough, I think Estonia could be a sensible option if you regard it as stepping stone (for example, enrolling master's programme in the very best university there, then apply for PhD position in top-tier universities in high income countries). Heck I know some friends who did the same thing, but by obtaining master's degree in mid- or upper mid-tier Japanese universities to jump to better ones in Japan and sometimes beyond. OgaLanister: I don't know your field, but you can find a few examples of lab webpages (or professor's homepage) in links below. Perhaps none of them are of your field of interest. Just wanna show you what university-affiliated Japanese lab looks like. https://www.mces.titech.ac.jp/authors/kitano/ (chemistry lab in Tokyo Tech) http://www.fret.lif.kyoto-u.ac.jp/e-phogemon/index.htm (pathology lab in Kyoto University) https://sites.google.com/site/yasuyukisawadapage/home (Tokyo University economics professor's webpage) http://www4.math.sci.osaka-u.ac.jp/~twatanabe/ (Osaka University math professor's webpage) http://www2.bpes.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~www-met/index.html# (agriculture lab in Kyushu University) http://www.ifs.tohoku.ac.jp/enerdyn/en/index.html (mechanical engineering lab in Tohoku University) Once again, Google is your friend. |
