Does A Wrong Prophecy Mean That The Prophet Is False? by Depsui(m): 3:34pm On Oct 18, 2020 |
Personally, i think no. A wrong prophecy does not necessarily mean that the prophet is false. He might just have mistakenly listen to the voice of the flesh or the devil. I believe that we can also apply this to our personal life. The fact that you've heard God speak to you doesn't mean that every voice you hear is from God. There are four sources of thoughts 1. God 2. Your born again spirit 3. The devil or demons 4. Flesh or unrenewed mind It is therefore important to always judge anything we hear in our mind with scriptures. If the thought/voice glorifies self or is against the bible, it is not from God. I'll still like to hear your thoughts about the issue 2 Likes |

Depsui: wow, very deep sir... my own narrative.... The sound of BANGER(knockout) in June can be easily mistaken for GUNSHOT or BOMB explosion.... BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN OUR EARS ARE NOT FUNCTIONING properly. So also if a person sees a piece of paper flying in the air and mistakes it for a bird.... we can not say the person has a bad eyesight. NO ONE IS PERFECT.... Only GOD is perfect and beyond mistakes. A prophet should not be judged only by if his predictions come to pass or not... BUT by the Spirit with which he gives it. Not many are able to discern the spirit of a prophet. Prophecies are NOT final verdicts.... they can be tempered with and even hindered by GOD himself, or the Devil and his demons orrr by the very person that receives the prophecy. Prophecies are possible outcomes if conditions are met. Just as a good maths teacher can solve a mathematical question in a wrong way, so also a true genuine prophet can be mistaken in his delivery of what was revealed to him. 1 Like |

The question is better posed as this “Does a wrong prediction from a football pundit make him false?” As a prophet, all you do is just make guess and nothing else. No one has more brain power than you to understand what the intelligent designer says. That’s why if they make 10 prophesies, at best only one comes to pass. If you get 1/10 in your exam didn’t you fail?? 1 Like 1 Share |

Depsui: Youre right, a genuine prophet could miss it. But if this "missing it" becomes a regular occurrence . Its no longer a mistake . Its a life of faslehood. Just the way a Christian who lives in sin differs from he that falls into a sin . 1 Like |

Not really, God has the discretion to change his mind on certain things. A prophet is just a messenger. Case of Jonah comes to mind, he said he knows after delivering the message the people will see him as a liar because God will change his mind . Another case is Elijah, he prophesy there will be rain and he used prayer to follow up . None of them were false |

I am breaking my OWN words (of only communicating on my own threads) to speak on this tremendously important topic. As Isaiah 8:20 states, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak NOT according to this word, it is because there is NO light in him." So as plainly as that scripture states, the Lord is exact...which means that if one is claiming to be a "prophet/prophetess of God", then he/she better be sure that He has called him/her. Whatever is prophesied must come to pass or the person is false...point blank period. There are conditions to being called and most oftentimes, those called rejected or relunctantly accepted the call initially because it was not a popular or fun-filled thing to do to call a stiff-necked, sin-ridden, wicked &back slidden world to repentance & obedience to the Lord. True prophets/prophetesses DO NOT prophesy smooth, tickling-to-the-ears words 95 percent of the time. Unfortunately, we have more "self-appointed prophets" who are only into deceiving & fleecing(for financial gains) gullible, desperate & well meaning people, than are actually true God ordained ones. That is why the Word of God should be used to test what any alleged prophet/prophetess says. He/she should always point one back to the Lord. |

Eviana:I do not quite agree with some of these, every prophesy is subject to God's approval and it does not mean the prophet is fake. God will always be God and he gives some utterances and decides which of the utterance will manifest. Not every prophecy can be tested with the word of God and anybody can prophesy as the spirit of prophecy is given freely. At a point, even Saul prophesied,David the murderer prophesied e.t.c |

entrep88: I agree with the above bolded FIRST sentence.... However, it was God who told Jonah to go to Ninevah to give them the message of their need to repent. God chose to give mercy on them based ona condition, however the prophesy came from the mouth of God to give to the people through Jonah. Now the second sentence that I bolded, it would depend on what the "prophet/prophetess" is actually prophesying. Prophesy is a spiritual gift given to some...just as the other spiritual gifts. It is supposed to edify the church and glorify God...not man. There is no monetary reward attached to God's method of prophecy. A self-proclaimed prophet can prophesy trivial or general things such as "someone in this room is gonna give birth", or "someone is in a job where they are about to get a promotion", or "a woman in the room is about to be engaged", etc. I'm sure that in a crowd full of hundreds of people, those "prophecies" may be true. That, however does not make someone a true prophet of God. Acts 16:16-18 (KJV) 16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. The damsel spoke the truth (so in a sense you could call her a prophetess), but was she speaking the truth as a mouthpiece for God or for the enemy? She clearly made a ton of money in her "profession", but it wasn't from God. There are tons of other examples of people claiming to be prophets who were not. God even told some that the false prophet wasn't of Him, nor had He spoken the "prophesies" to that person. I guess I'm just trying to warn people to use the Word of God as the ultimate source. If someone claims to be a prophet, then they must meet the criteria for one. It's a solemn and sacred thing to stand as the mouthpiece for the living God--Creator of the universe. There in Nigeria, I can see (through this website and from many YouTube videos) that "prophesying" is big business. The things prophesied are completely foolish, unserious and comical a lot of the times. People want to hear from God, want to be blessed physically and spiritually, amongst other things and people want to hear something that appeals to their inner-man. I get it... It's a problem here in the U.S. as well. What I have seen grieves me, because people clearly aren't reading their Words...they are relying more on a "person", which is dangerous. I sincerely appreciate your reply though. Thank you. |

entrep88:You confuse two things here. Jonah's story has nothing to do with this here. If anything, he was not in understanding that the mercy of God was not based on favour or any kind.

Take Note: in prophecy, we have Forthtelling and Foretelling. Forthtelling means addressing an issue that is at hand through the word of God(word of prophecy). While Foretelling means prediction of the future. But can an enemy of God prophesy? Don't conjure prophecy, if you do your reward awaits you--- Jeremiah 23:15. Hindrances to prophecy: Self, Satan and God. I said God because if the prophecy is a false truth and will not give Him glory, it can be hindered. |
Re: Does A Wrong Prophecy Mean That The Prophet Is False? by Emusan(m): 10:37pm On Oct 31, 2020 |
Depsui: You're wrong on that. Prophecy is foretelling certain events that will take place in the NAME OF GOD and directly from GOD. So unless you agree that God can be wrong. And if the person says, the message isn't from God but just a mere prediction then it wasn't a prophecy in the first place. Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
