Are POS Agents The New Scammers In Town?? by Missionaire: 7:20am On Oct 15, 2020
I had some money in my GTB account on the 12th of this month. When I went to use the ATM the next day on the 13th, I could only find less than 836 naira.

When I called the bank, I was told that my ATM card was used at a POS called Pay Arena for only God knows what.

This was quite surprising because my card had been with me since morning and every time. I don't do online transactions with it and have only used it for POS once and that was in August this year.

I went to the bank yesterday to fill the dispute form and was told that the issue would be sorted out in 45 days. Can you imagine??

How possible can my card be used at a POS without the card?
Re: Are POS Agents The New Scammers In Town?? by Missionaire: 7:22am On Oct 15, 2020
I want to find out how possible this can be.

Whether it is from the bank or the POS agent.

Modified: These are my findings.

My card was used for a web transaction and not a POS transaction.
According to them, there is no way for them to know what it was used to purchase or received by.

I asked them how possible it could be when I have never used this card for any online transactions as it is my savings account. I was told that my card number can be copied and used without further authorization from me.

This is quite unfortunate. Considering this, I asked why they don't do OTP or any other form of two steps verification before approving web transactions with card and I was told that it is not applicable to every transaction.

Thankfully, I had already transferred most of the money from that account to a new UBA account I opened last week. The money that was used was N2,210.

It is worrisome that our banking institutions are (un)consciously aiding and abetting account fraudulent and financial crime activities.

Knowing the kind of society they operate in, they should endeavor to integrate at least two steps verifications for EVERY web transaction no matter the amount.

It is quite very unfortunate... Very very.

Some POS are clone.... just like fake websites ... the owners bought it on porpoise. Mainly to copy the details of cards inserted. It will always decline ... because it’s not real.

Once copied .... on

You are On half tank, any time wey he remember your card, you are in trouble ....

I have actually thought of this as a possibility.
But my transaction worked that day.
I have been trying to reach the bank customer service today so I can know the exact location where the transaction was carried out.

Once I know, I'll take my next line of action.

This is another angle.
Reason why I haven't taken any drastic step yey towards the POS agent.
I just realized how much POS agents with different names are littered almost every nook and cranny.

On Wednesday next week, I will be around where I used the POS. If it is the same name, then it would be very very ugly for that person.

But till then, let me be considering all angles.

Even if it's same name , some one can take your card to ATM

Why didn't u get the debit alert ?

How can someone take my card to ATM when the card is ALWAYS with me?
Secondly, even on normal occasions, I sometimes don't receive credit and debit alerts both from Eco bank and GTB.

Sometimes it will be after 24 hours before I get an alert. Sometimes I don't even get an alert until I go to the ATM.

Payarena is a fraudstars' haven. I am a witness. Some rouges used my card to buy things online five times and it happens 1am to 2am and I received alert with the FBN/PAYARENA code . Went to my bank to complain they say they wouldn't know who did it.
I was advised to change my card. Henceforth I dont use any POS that is not FBN or Zenith bank branded.

My mum account was cleared of 306,000 naira in June using this same format.
We are yet to recover from it.

And the banks are yet to put measures in place to curb this menace.

It is even very possible that it was someone close to you guys that did this.
I have resolved to use razor blade and clean out the last four digits on my ATM after memorising them and writing them somewhere else.

It's very unfortunate.

In your previous post, you made emphasis on "buying" POS , you were saying categorically as if its been sold in open market, ...... ..within a twinkle of an eye, you changed to Gray & underground market.

This is how misinformations are traveled like a wild of fire.

Meanwhile I doubt if you even knw the meaning of " grey market".

In case of grey market, its been done with CONSENT of the manufacturer and its pure original product. Not as you portrayed it in POS issue.

POS can't be issued outside bank sir, POS is product that is highly sensitive, and no bank will want to involve in a market which can tarnish her image.

Even ur so called grey market, the products are genuine and not with purpose to defraud public.

Bye.

What about women that sell drinks and barbecue fishes in our mammy markets?

These days, almost anybody can get a POS machine and use it for defrauding people.

Oga... It seems you are new to Nigeria.
There are no impossibilities here.

How do SARS officers get POS machines that they use for extortion?
Isn't it a bank that gave it to them?

What about armed robbers who use POS machines for robberies?

How do you think banks make and declare huge profits? It is from all these side hustles while they maintain a professional stance in public.

Oga... Many handshakes take place under the table and as the other guy said, no be every cloth them dey dry for outside.

Just pray to not be a victim.

Oga stop arguing imaginary thought as a real, if you go to bank and asked them you need POS after verification with particular location, if they confirm no other that bank ATM there, bank will give POS for you, having giving u, u can take it to other locations, high way inclusive, to take money from public,

In case of police they will force guys to use their ATM to withdraw money, if they do that, it will seem as legal transaction and for real its a forced legal transaction and not clown as u portrayed it
.
u re hell bent in ignorance, am not here for debate, seek information to knw that ur assumption is wrong

So what have you just said now?
The other young man is saying that POS can be used for frauds but you said it is impossible.

Now from your write up, you've conceded to the argument that POS machines can be used for illegal activities.

And yes, our banks are corrupt and this is Nigeria.... Many banks know about all these activities.

Very true and the other guy is just arguing blindly.
People are telling you things from personal experience and he is arguing as if he is a stranger in Nigeria.

Yahoo boys use POS now for fraud.
